I would like to get people's thoughts. I want to get into mechanicals and rba's but I'm concerned about safety. As long as I'm following ohms law and not exceed the amp limit of the battery is there anything to worry about? I don't plan on building a coil any lower then .6, .7 ohms. Through my research I found some things to keep in mind. When building a coil always make sure the locking mechanism is on so you can't fire. Make sure the coil isn't touching any of the posts. The coil should glow from the inside/out, no space between. Resistance metres for checking ohms a lot of times can be off as much as .1 ohms or more so if I'm aiming for a .6 or .7 I should have plenty safety room. The rba is going to get piping hot but the body of the mod or the firing button should never. If they do, stop using immediately. Even though a battery is marked 3.7 v, a fully charged battery is 4.2 so keep that in mind when doing calculations. Any thoughts?

Good job on your research!
One thought, build on your ohm checker and check the ohms before you put it on a mod to pretty up the coils. Wiggle the leads to make sure the coil is set (the coil should not move as you wiggle the extra wire coming out of the back of the post), also make sure there are no stray wires on the deck, and the extra wire is not touching anything like positive to negative or positive to deck.
Double check the coil after you pretty up the coil as the resistance usually changes. While it's on the ohm checker wick and juice, then you don't have to worry about scorching your cotton accidentally.
Your mod may get hot with a low resistance build even as high as .5. It really depends on how well the RDA is at dispersing heat. If your mod starts to get warm, give it a break. If it becomes too hot to handle you are likely in thermal runaway and you need to take the appropriate measures for the safety of you and those around you as your battery vents.

For one thing, if I'm building a coil, and am leaving it on the mod to hold it, I'd take the battery out.

But usually I use a base to hold it, like a miniprotank base or an evod base and it's not on a mod at all.

No matter what you do and how careful you are s..t happens. Keep on the lookout and do what you can to minimize the s..t.

I built a fine coil on my atty, 1.2 Ohms on the meter, it had been working just fine on both a mechanical and a regulated mod. I had a 4None clone that worked fine with several different attys. I did notice that some attys do not have threading all the way on the connector and one of them would end up not being tight so I did not use it on that mod. I put the atty on and hit the fire button and nothing happened. I hit it again and still nothing. hit it a little longer while I looked for the problem. This time it got hot and ruined the magnets. The problem was that the center post in the atty was slightly recessed and when I fired the 4Nine it shorted out.

I know now to check the center pin for the 4Nine in the future, if I replace the magnets and use it again. This was a case of following all the advice I have seen, using equipment that I knew worked I still had a problem.

The cost here was a broken clone mod. I am happy that I did not hurt myself.

Thanks guys. Sounds silly but I want to get into sub ohm vaping because of all the sick videos of seen of people blowing massive clouds. I'm not really a newbie, been vaping for a year. Started off on a piece of junk HD Vape from the convenience store, then moved to a slightly better eleaf, now been using the very impressive MVP 2.0 for last half a year. Started playing with the coils and taking out the silica and adding cotton and trying out all the different resistances. Now I want to move onto the next step.

Sweet. Clouds are what really matters. There is a guy on YouTube who blows massive clouds. I can't remember his name, but he holds his mod in a dirty baby diaper or dishtowel...

So long as you are familiar and comfortable with your mod, have the right batteries for your build, and so long as your coil is good, all should be well. I put mine on an ohms meter while building; it's simpler than using the digital multimeter after building. .6-.7 is my sweet spot :)

I plan on getting the k100 kit. My local vape shop sells it for 39.99 and research shows it's a great mod for beginners. It comes with the charger, 1 18350 and 1 18560 efest batteries. It has a floating centre pin

Make sure the charger is good. Sometimes kits come with crappy ones. I have a Nitecore Intellicharger that works well.

Also, be careful with the 18350 battery. Is it safe with a .6-.7 build? tbh, I'd recommend getting two good 18650 batteries, so that you have one always available. With 1 18650 and 1 18350, you're going to be constantly going from one to the other.

Really? Not sure how else to respond. I understand you are trying to learn and be safe, but question the ultimate reason...guess progression in vaping is different for each.

I'm not sure how to respond either, everyone had to start at the beginning didn't they? I'm happy with my MVP 2.0 but like evolution, I want to evolve. Dive deeper so to speak in something I truly enjoy. I don't vape to replace smoking cigs. I'm passed that, it's more of a hobby now to me.

Sounds like you are on the right track.. Just make sure and get great batts, Sony VTC4 or 5's come to mind, 30 amp continuous ratting, IMR High drain batts, is what to look for.

Ohm meter and Batt charger with volt meter is good to have. Even when everything is purrfect, accidents can happen, locked firing switch, just to name one that can happen. Whenever one has that much power in the palm of the hand, caution and respect must be a consideration. Haven't blown anything up, yet, but have gotten burnt:D

Vape is progressive, the more one vapes, the more on learns and the better the vape becomes, or something like that.

Vape long and Prosper.!!!

the top of the mod may get a little warm from heat transferring from the atty but it shouldnt get hot. check your ohms and double check them again after any adjustments. You should be just fine if your going to stay in the 7 or 8 tenths range. Good Batteries, Good charger, Good coil and wick technique. Figure those out then worry about mods and attys.
