Interesting ... these Aspire coils just screw right into the base of the Subtank Mini?
Yes, and the face of the coil seats against the post. I have since put a silicone cup from an Evod head over the post as a cushion and seal, but had no leaks whatsoever. On my 6th fill now and still going strong. I am really enjoying the vape from this setup.

So I just got my other subtank mini (newest black version) a couple of days ago and also ordered an extra 1.2 and 1.5 vertical OCC heads. I started using the .5 vertical OCC that came with it and have absolutely no problems at all with it. The problems start only when I use the 1.2 and 1.5 ohm heads, I get that nasty dry burnt taste no matter what wattage I am vaping at (even as low as 15). The first couple hits are usually ok but then if I hit the vape more, I repeatedly get the burnt/dry nasty hit. This only happens with the 1.5 and 1.2 ohm heads. Does anyone else have the same problem? I even tried putting extra juice on the cotton and coils before I use it to no avail, constant dry/burnt taste after another. Never happens with the .5 ohm heads though. I'm using an istick 50w to run the subtank mini which I'm sure doesn't matter, thanks for your help and advice in advance.
Maybe try those coils at even less power, like starting them out at 11 watts for the first puffs, to break them in? If your getting burnt hits it's either too much power or poor wicking/ insufficient airflow.

It is real simple.

With wattage: start low and move up slowly.
When you start getting some dry hits, you back off a bit and that should be where you stay at for a while.

If you get used to vaping on a 30 watt coil, then put in a 10 watt coil and try to start high and go down, you will burn some cotton and once you burn some cotton, you cannot unburn it.

Unbelievable. I may still have a 5-pack of the old BDC coils, which I hated with a passion. Or maybe not...

So you put that silicone cup that seals the top of the Evod coil head where, exactly?

I put it inside the tank, onto the stem, cup facing down, away from the coil. But really, it wasn't necessary, I went through 3 tanks without it. No leaks, no gurgles.

* Edit: The silicone cup can be stretched to fit onto the top of the Aspire coil, it's a tenuous fit, but it will work.

Amazing. Not so much that it works, but that you even thought about doing this! :)

Well, it sounds like you might give this a try. If so, please do tell. :D

Well, I don't have any Aspire coils at home; I stopped buying their products when they introduced "ceramic" (AKA fiberglass) wicks in their coil heads.

But since they switched to cotton, I may grab a 5-pack of those new BVCs just to see how they work. But first I'm going to play with my brand new Subtank I just found in my mailbox. :)

I do only one build for all my RBAs... 29 or 28 g kanthal, 2.5 mm ID, 1.5-1.8Ω, wicked with JOC or rayon. Works for me.

Very similar to what I'm doing--I've coiling at 3 mm ID. I found, though, that this tank will burn the wick unless I MTL on the biggest air hole, even at 1.9Ω.

I have a similar issue...my subtank gets kinda warm (especially at the delrin tip) so I cannot get past 30W. I pretty much threw away the premade 1.5 ohm and 0.5 ohm coils because they gave me a burnt taste. I had a much better vape with the RBA but I was careful not to over wick and fluffed the ends before tucking them down the chimney walls. Problem solved. No more burnt taste, more vapor, and runnin okay at 18-20W.
Exactly

OK, so I found them at FT:

https://www.fasttech.com/products/3007/10009799/1859406

They carry 1.6 and 1.8Ω BVC coils. I was thinking that the 1.6Ω would be better for my Subtank. Any thoughts?
I am new to these coils having just discovered them. My thoughts are that there won't be a huge difference between those two resistances with a regulated mod, you could simply adjust the power up or down to suit your tastes.

Right. My thinking was that they, possibly, use a bit thicker wire for the lower res coils, but maybe not. It's only .2Ω difference.

Wish me luck. I just have to try them...

Ha ha, here's another one for you. In another thread, choochoogranny said she was using Kanger PT2 coils in her Subtank. So I pulled my Aspire coil, plunked it into some 151 rum to clean it, and tried a PT2 head wicked with cotton. It fired, and got me through a whole tank of juice :) I might start calling this thing my Universal tank

I've got plenty of those--stock coils, not rewicked, though! Curiouser and curiouser...

Rum?!?!?!?!
