Okay, so, a little history of my vaping experiences first: I started vaping with an eGo. Liked it, wanted more out of it. Upgraded to the XL. Loved it. Worked great, but had its issues (leaking, frequent topping up, etc.). A couple months ago I discovered the new tank systems and thought they were a brilliant idea. Bought some tanks and T attys. My first batch didn't work very well. The second batch worked okay but weren't very satisfying, at least not beyond the first few days. Then the XL (Type-B) tanks came out. Bought a couple, tried them out. I was in absolute heaven. Awesome vapor, top notch TH with the liquid I was using, I thought I'd found the ultimate vape. And then the attys started playing up. Producing less vapour, flooding (requiring extremely frequent blowing out), etc. I dissected the attys, found they were burning down to stubs, hence either not delivering juice to the atty or delivering it freely causing flooding.

So I'm getting pretty disillusioned. I really, really want to keep vaping -- I love it. When it works well, it's absolutely fantastic. It just seems impossible to keep it working well without frequently buying new atomizers, which I simply can't afford to do.

I'm going to try one more thing with the tanks before making any decisions (provided I can find silica rope in my area) but in the mean time I'd like to weigh my options as to what my best choices are for a new vape.

Here's what I'm looking for:

- Reliable atomizer that isn't going to burn its wick, flood or cause other such problems. I want it to just work. I'm perfectly fine with maintenance, say, cleaning once a week or so, but I don't want to have to constantly be fiddling with it.

- Big TH and decent vapor. TH is the main thing for me; if the vapor looks a little anemic I don't really mind so long as it provides a reliable, punchy throat hit. I vape ~26mg PG (I find VG too sharp and it makes me cough) so I want something that's going to give me a solid hit.

- Decent battery life. I don't mind chubby as long as it's pocketable. I'd prefer something that could adapt to eGo batteries, possibly, since I already have a bunch -- I don't mind if it comes with small batteries as a kit if it can either accept or be adapted to fit an eGo battery, or has its own big battery options. I'd prefer to stay away from stick-style units.

- Easily sourced replacement parts. I don't want to have to hunt all over the place for replacement attys or carts.

- I strongly prefer 3-piece atty+cart design; I don't want semi-disposables like cartos as the long-term cost is higher, and refilling carts is far easier than cartos. I will consider a cartomizer/cleartomizer/tankomizer design if it's reliable, relatively easy to refill, readily available, and lasts for more than half a dozen fills.

- Not too expensive. I'd rather not go over $100 for a kit if I can help it, and any kit would have to have at least a pair of everything in it. I'll consider a higher price if it means much greater reliability and/or performance, but I'm not talking Silver Bullet-level stuff here.

- I'll consider just about any combination of atomizer/cart/battery from any combination of brands. If you've found just the right combination to make the Voltron of eCigs, bring it on. If I have to forego a kit and buy the parts separately because you can't get that particular combination in kit form, I will.

So what say you? What's your ultimate vape? Ready-made kit or Frankenstein, it doesn't matter. If you've got your perfect vape, tell me what it is and what makes it awesome.

Any suggestions most appreciated.

Notwithstanding your stated concern about the cost effectiveness of cartomizers, that is what I recommend. You don't even need new batteries. What will enhance your vaping experience (in the way you specify) is the right atomizer/tank/cartomizer. And the cartomizers I recommend are very cost-effective.

IMO the best eGo-compatible cartomizer (or tank or atty) is the 1.7 ml capacity Smok Tech Dual Coil: plumes of vapor (and great flavor), but more important to you is the intense TH. They cost as little as $2 each, e.g., from Hoosier E-Cig Supply or Vapor Junction (which sells them in a $10 five-pack). And they can be refilled many times, lasting just about as long as a typical $7-10 atomizer (or $16 eGo-T atomizer) ... without the additional cost of tanks or cartridges.

The Dual Coils are LR ... kind of. That is, the net resistance is 1.6Ω, but each of the coils is 3.2Ω. Therefore, the atty-frying current (amps) is much less than other LR atomizers/cartomizers. pbusardo demonstrates this at the 14:15 mark of his comparative review video.

His entire video is extremely informative (and enjoyable) and also demonstrates another excellent cartomizer: the 1 ml capacity Boge 2.0Ω. These are sold by many suppliers, including MadVapes.

There is another cartomizer that I also love, but it would require an inexpensive adapter to use on the eGo. It is the 1 ml capacity EastMall LR 801, sold by Vapor Junction ($8 for a five-pack). Very strong TH and, for me, the richest flavor. You can get that 510-to-801 adapter from many suppliers, including Vapor Junction (for $5) and Good Prophets (for a buck).
