I guess there isn't a stock answer like "Just get a provari" used to be, else I'd have have been told that already.

The Aegis TC Box mod JC linked sounds like it's built to take abuse, so worth serious consideration. Age verification isn't an issue. I'd love it if my biggest problem was "You are too young".
I have one, and for the environment you described, it’s exactly what I’d suggest. It’s not fancy. It’s solid and simple and tough. You can put whatever tank you like on it, adjust the wattage, and away you go. You might think 100 watts is more than you’ll ever need, but that’s about where single 18650 mods are these days. You can use as low watts as you like, but it’ll last you longer between charges.

Picture is mine, with the Juggerknot rta.

Another vote here for the Aegis Legend. It can survive a fall onto a concrete floor with nary a bruise. Waterproof, too, and, though largish, very comfortable to hold.
And with that nautilus it will go for 2 and a half days on a set of batteries. Thing is about the size of a pack of 100s. Maybe a bit larger. It’s a lot heavier though. There is a legend limited edition which is light enough to float in water and just as tough. It’s a 200w mod. I vaped at 110w & 0.07ohm on one the other day. No noticeable issues other than I sunk the batteries in about 4 hours. The upside of the legend is you can actually run over it with a truck (there is video) and you’ll be able to try every new fangled thing with it except squonking. Also, they’re widely available. Saw one for sale on the shelf at each of the last 4 vape shops I visited. Downside is it’s one of the larger dual battery 18650s out there.

Another good one is the Asmodus Colossal. Solidly built, uses an 18650. Despite its name it's actually quite compact. I got one a few weeks ago and love it. Someone described it as the blue jeans of mods.

asMODus Colossal 80W TC Box Mod | Touch Screen device powered by a single 18650

I just went to Vapor Range to check out the Colossal. When I finished reading about the Package Contents, I also read their specific info. about batteries to be used in the Colossal (because of its positive contact protector). Then, I read their Product Disclaimer - Battery Warning. I've bought from Vapor Range quite a few times, and I'd read it before, but can't say I remember seeing the sort of "unusual info" that's in it now. Have you read it, Mick? If you haven't, take a peek and see what you think? First time I've seen anything like it on a vaping vendor's website.

I wanted a black&black, but I took what I could get.

That Vaporrange disclaimer wasn't there yesterday, I think. I was particularly struck by "Our products are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure, or prevent any disease" and "Users must have knowledge of how to properly use any and all items that are purchased and must relay this information to anyone who may use a product found on this site," especially the bit I've bolded.

Hmm that’s entertaining. It kind of begs the question of exactly what legal cheek they think they’re covering with that one.

On the subject of original ageises though if the color of your vinyl insert annoys you it is easily replacable with just about anything else. There’s a dude here who did a nice tooled full grain leather one iirc.

@Baldr - You're a verified member, with access to the ECF Classifieds, so you just might want to consider paying a little visit there. You might be surprised by a few things there, the last I checked a day or so ago. ;)

Another mod suggestion I could make is the Geek Vape Aegis 100W TC Mod. They're well made and are tough...waterproof, shockproof, and dustproof. They still have the Silver/Brown one available at the following website for $43.59. They take a single 18650 or 26650 battery. They come with an adapter, so you can use either one.

Geekvape Aegis TC Box Mod

The website does require definite age verification though, before they'll consider your purchase to be complete and ship the mod. If you buy one, check your email then...for what you need to do to verify your age.

The Geekvape Aegis TC Box mod is a great mod but it seems to only take 18650 or 26650. The kit version I believe has a battery cap adapter to allow 21700 batteries as well. I wonder if the non kit version has that battery cap adapter as well?

I appreciate all the advice. At this point, I'm mostly looking at the Aegis 100w, and their newer Aegis Legend 200w. Leaning towards the 200w Legend.

One thing I notice is that when I think of 18650 batteries, I think button tops. Those worked with my provari, so I have numerous "extra" batteries that still work, they just don't hold a charge like a new battery. And I have several high end flashlights that use them. (If you want a good flashlight, and haven't seen an 18650 powered LED flashlight, you'll be amazed.)

But I'm guessing that button tops won't work with these and I'll need to move to flat tops. I can do that, it's just not what I'd consider ideal.

The "legend" version is dual 18650's. That may be great, but way-back-when, there were a lot of problems with mods that used stacked batteries. It simply made things less safe. Should that be a concern with the Aegis Legend? If it's not, then the dual batteries means needing to swap out less often, and I sure like that part.

I don't know why I would need 100w, much less 200w, but I plan to use this thing for a long time, and wouldn't want to buy it, then find some reason later that I wanted the higher wattage limits.

I may stick with the Aspire Nautilus tanks I've been using, but while I'm upgrading, I'd consider options on that too. I know I want something simple that just works. I don't want to tinker with it, and I'm not going to roll my own coils or anything similar to that. Easy to refill, consistent vape, tuff enough to handle most drops, those are all high priority with me.

Several people have mentioned MTL, but I don't know what that means.

The Aegis legend is a great choice, I have a couple of them and absolutely love their simplicity and durability. Batteries are not "stacked", and circuitry is safer. Since you don't use high wattage, battery life should be optimal for your use. It is fairly large and has some weight to it.
The Aegis 100w kit is smaller and as durable. Though I don't own the Aegis 100w, it's flexibility with various battery types (18650, 21700, etc) is intriguing and definitely has my interest. I just wonder if the Aegis 100w mod by itself comes with the battery adapter cap that would accommodate a 21700 battery.

The 2x700 cap can be bought separately. It was a late edition. Early ones didn’t have it.

It is heavy, but surprisingly not that much bigger than the single battery. I’m a low wattage vaper, so I really don’t find I need a Dual often or idhave gotten one of those too.

Mine did not come with the extension. I thought about looking for one, but all my batteries are 18650 and for now, I didn’t want to complicate things. It has plenty of charge time to suit my purposes

A few points on your post. First there's not much new stuff in the vaping world that will use button tops. Given that they're showing their age by not holding a charge as well as they used to is certainly a good reason right there to but new sets. Stick with the name brand Samsung, Sony, LG crowd for reliable vendors like IMR, Illum, RTD.

"Stacked" or multi-battery mods are not a particular safety risk so long as they're decent batteries that are married to he charged and discharged to so you don't end up with unbalanced cells.

Other mtl type or low airflow attys and coils like the Nauti would include the highly regarded Zenith. Easy top fill and good coil performance.
