Maybe it is the juice, not your setup. Some juices (usually dark juices or very sweet juices) produce a build up on a coil quickly.

makes sense. im vaping Copper Creek's House Blend which is a dessert type.

im using my setup on mech mod.. ima redo in the morning with some 2mm ekowool.. how do u guys make the microcoil wit 2mm ekowool? cant really feed it thru.

anyone have a picture of a microcoil set up in a Kayfun? I always seem to get it better when I can see a pic of it:)

I know sub ohm coils are all the rage, but I've found that they aren't the best solution for me in this particular device. 1.2-1.6 is the sweet spot for me in the Kayfun. If its working for you, great. But if not maybe try a slightly higher wrap, that might do the trick for you too..unlike some rba's where there is room for a boatload of coil, the Kayfun cannot really accommodate that much silica, there just isn't space for it and as a result when I go too low on ohms I don't think there is enough silica there physically to feed it fast enough, jmho:)

I'm doing a complete change coil every 2-3 weeks. After using 2-3 tanks do burn. It is best to focus on the change in taste. When the taste worse - do burn or replace the coil.
I've decided Kayfun 3.1 works best with 1.0 or higher ( i have 1.3 Ohms now and much better than the .66 i first tried)... what's your recommendation?

Wondering why you are using Nextel. you mentioned earlier that it is Nextel Silica. Nextel is a ceramic not silica. I have had much luck with 4 wraps of .30 on 2mm Russian Ekowhool - around 1.0-1.2 ohm. No bad taste, no burn, no dry hits and am able to vape hard and fast. It is perfect.
I also am confused, I dont see a reason to wrap each side with different wicking material as if it does fail at some point you will have to guess which material works.

Something like this

Do not drop your spool close to airhole - because of possible leaks. Coil relative position airhole affects the TH. Regulated movement above and below. Effect of the movement already has a 0.5 mm.

What size wire is on the 2mm eko? and ohms? please good sir

Ok, so that's what you mean by microcoil, thanks!

I have used Nextel XC-116 before and it can work fine, but I find it more difficult to get right. It's not as flexible as regular silica and when dealing with short lengths like in the Kayfun it has a tendency to shred, and fall apart,at least in my experience.

For Electronics (such as ProVari and VAMO) resistance should be 1.5 ohms or higher.
For mechanical mods in my opinion the resistance should be 1-1.5 ohms. And it is desirable that the batteries in this case were protected.
In the case where the low ohm (<1 ohm) and the battery is not protected, there is a risk of short-circuit the battery.

I find that sub 1.0 ohms contributes to my burning flavor...
When i use sub 1.0 ohms, I have IMR safe chemistry batteries... that's what is recommended.

XS is nextel but silica... as far as i know, and its a good wick imo... i never got ahold of the XC yet.... I've tried eko wool too on my first wrap which was .66 and too low for the Kayfun imo, but just switched it to XS...
haven't experimented with all that enough yet to tell the difference... width sizes play a part too..
so the eko may have been the thicker as XS 116 is about 1.5mm.. i think my eko is like 2mm.
I don't really know the difference in vape at this point.

In my own little world
I just did a tear down of my micro coil setup and took some pictures for you guys. The wick is XC-132 and was torched clean. The coil is 8 wraps of 28 gauge nichrome at 1.15 ohms. Micro coils work best when the wraps actually touch each other; the coil heats up faster and gives the performance of a much lower ohm coil while being safer and easier on batteries than a sub ohm coil. The trick to using Nextel XC in the Kayfun is to wet it with VG to make it more flexible before bending the tails of the wicks into the well.

The hooks on my leads allow me to remove the coil, torch it clean and reinstall it. This setup wicks exceptionally and will go through a 10ml tank of Boba's bounty before needing a dry burn.

Hmmm I think I jumped too quick, I paid $20 more to buy the SM3 direct from SM:( For another $35 I could have had the complete kit and probably got it twice as fast! That bums me a bit, but I guess lesson learned. I haven't been able to find the "hybrid adapter" available anywhere, has anyone seen it available? I figure Ill pick the other 18350 and 18500 tubes up at some point, but I really wanted that adapter:)

if the wraps touch each other, dont they short out ?
