Switch to Vaping "cold turkey" or did you transistion slowly?

This is the second time I have quit cold turkey using e-cigs. The first time I quit, I had been smoking for 22 years and the day my e-cig was delivered I quit for two years, and only used the e-cig for the first 3 or 4 months until I finally stopped doing that, too. Unfortunately, in July of last year my best friend from childhood passed away, and as I was driving home from work after hearing the news, I picked up a pack of analogs...I immediately started smoking about a pack a day, which nearly led to my 2 year relationship ending. So in order to save the relationship, I quit analogs cold turkey, once again using e-cigs. It's now been 28 days since I've had an analog, and I'm anxiously awaiting my new e-go. Fortunately, I have a friend at work who is a serious vaper, and he was kind enough to loan me one of his e-go's until mine arrives.

During a visit by our daughter, we were presented with simple e-cigs purchased at a local store and begged to stop smoking. It has been 2 1/2 months now, and my wife and I have not smoked a cigarette since then. I can't claim "cold turkey", as there was no trauma involved. We have preferred the e-cigs from the very beginning. We now use Spinners with Clearomizers. Also, my sister, son and two nieces have painlessly switched.

Cold turkey. It's not easy but it gets easier every day. I've been smoke free for 3 weeks and 1 day.
I smoked for 41 years, I was at 2 to 2 1/2 packs a day when I quit.

I am a cheapskate. One of the things that has helped me is that I have spent so damn much on ecigs ($560) that my frugality just won't let me waste the money. I did jump in with both feet and bought a lot of supplies, got into modding and I have really turned this into a hobby.

But I have quit smoking, I will never go back and boy am I proud of myself.

When I bought My first E-cig, a disposable I also bought a pack of analogs, I really liked the E-cig and was convinced I could completely, switch. Especially once I started researching and seen how many brands, flavors and style there where, I know I would be able to find something I liked even more then the Logic disposable i began with. So two days later I bought a Logic starter kit, and My last pack of analogs. Since then I have ordered from the inter net, KR808's batteries, carts and a PCC. From Premier, Prime Vapor, V4L, and My vape Store, It's Been better then 3 weeks, and have no desire to have another Analog!! While I am still testing different flavors, batteries, etc I am very pleased so far. So to sum it up, I went from a pack a day, to analog free with two packs in five days.

Congrats!!!

I was almost exactly the same - was spending 400+/mo. on analogs!! Like you, I have purchased a lot of supplies, and it does indeed feel as if I have begun a hobby for myself. I really love my new eGo-T! Next month I'll be purchasing a VV eGo-C Battery so I can experience higher voltage vaping before I invest even more money in an APV. President's Day is decidedly inconvenient for me atm - waiting on a ton of stuff in the mail...

Not sure how I've done it, but I went from 2 to 2-1/2 PAD to working on the same pack now for 2 days!! :2cool: I'm fairly certain at this point that I won't need to buy anymore analogs - when the pack I'm working on is gone, my nearly 28 year relationship with them is over...

Welcome emily33 and congrats on quitting the analogs!

This is all still really new for me. I started vaping on the 1st of this month with no particular plan. Three days into it I ran out of cigarettes and I just did not feel like spending another 6 bucks on a pack so I didn't run out to the store. That was the last time I smoked an analog and I have been shocked at how easy it has been. I have had moments where I REALLY wanted one but vaping makes it go away in no time and those times are far less frequent then I expected.

I have to confess that I have been curious as to just how gross an analog would taste but I am not around any smokers and don't have access to any. At this point there is no way I am spending any money just to check it out. After all, that is hard-earned money that is better spent on liquid! :p

Again, welcome. I am still pretty new too but I think you will find the ppl around here are super nice and incredibly helpful. Good luck!

I never looked at vaping as a replacement for smoking. When I first started, I was just curious and I found myself smoking less and less cigarettes until I realized one morning I hadn't smoked a cigarette the day before. I lit one up because I didn't want to put my body through withdrawal symptoms and only took 3 drags and almost threw up. I threw away the half pack I had left and have never looked back.

That was a year ago this March!

I would have gotten my kit a lot sooner than I did.

Dang - trying to get my 5 posts in so I can become verified, so -- hmmm, well, it's been 22 hours and 28 minutes since I had my last analog!!! Yippee!! Now, after 24 hours has passed, I'll come back and post that it's been an entire day and I can get verified - in theory at least... lol

Edit -- I should add that it has been much easier than I thought it would be this time around. I think NOT having any available analogs in the house has made it easier for me to resist, though I've really only had 2 significant urges to smoke today, and like I read, after 5 or 10 minutes (and a LOT of vaping) they passed... :p

Wow, what an inspiring thread! I salute you all!!!

I'm a few weeks into my second foray into PVs. The other day my friend and I went out for a smoke break (smoking for her, vaping for me). She said she needed to run to the store because she was out. I realized I had an "emergency" pack in the car that I hadn't touched since starting vaping again. It was nice to have forgotten them!

I think that's a great example of how us humans can adapt. When put into a situation with limited options, we'll take the best of the bunch. Telling yourself no cigs made your brain realize the only option was to vape. Same with me. I still have my half-pack in the drawer. I look it every now and then and don't pine for one. I enjoy vaping. I don't enjoy cigs.

In my case it was put the pack down, pick the e-cig up. It was a instant transition and I'm happily still vaping.

AHHHAHAHAH xrufx! I also still have my last pack of cigarettes, it sits in the nightstand next to my bed. There are still 5 in it, the same count on the first day i started with e-cigs. Three weeks ago today, my transition was instant. Not easy, but easier than ANYTHING else I ever tried.

Cold turkey.

I used to dip ( never smoked ) and about 2 months ago a guy i work with was smoking this thing with a blue light on the end of it and i was like ... is that man?? He then told me it was an "blu electronic cigarette" and i was like " no way, i got to get me one of those"

So then i proceeded to go to the nearest store and pick me 1 up. At that moment i dropped smokeless tobacco instantly and never looked back.

I bought about 10 blu disposables and realized there has got to be something better (and cheaper) than these so i scowered the internet and i finally landed here.

One of the guys from a truck forum i'm on told me about CCV and there ego kit with a carto and a tank.

One of the best purchases iv'e ever made and opened the door to a whole new world to me. since then iv'e ordered a bolt and a few more tanks etc... and going to order a provari hopefully by the end of this week.

Since iv'e been on this forum iv'e got the guy i work with off blu cigs and on to ego with carto/tank.

Still in transition mode. It was once a day in the mornings and then every 3 or 4 days sometimes longer. Sometimes depends on the stress of the day whether I have to have an analog or not. So far I was out 11 days until my job slapped me in the face today with my review for a raise. Of course didnt get it and PV wasnt cutting it.
