SS 430 is very springy and rigid when worked. It does soften noticably when heated to a cherry red state....seven hundred and something is the temp.
Maybe do that and see if it softens. Its only an indication, but it eliminates most other metals, as very few other SS do that.

No, but I know what to do ;)
I set the TCR to 140. Seems solid and stable there and you guys are right. Excellent TC wire. On my reader it went from .18 to .3 ohms and some change when pulsed. Snappy ramp up too.

Yes it is pretty springy. Much more than 316, but after my nose to nose showdown with industrial grade Ti1 I was ready for anything. Seriously.

Did they send you the TCR printed somewhere? It's quite nice when you know what to do. But SS is still the best.
If you're really into temperature control, try THIS

As much as I'm luvin this SS304/403 (really good), still the best TC wire imho.

EDIT: Don't let the fact that it says "non-resistance wire" bother you. For our purposes it is.

Back in the day, they created a small subsidiary for vapers called Vapowire. I got 6 boxes free, then a local vendor started getting rid of theirs for 99 cents per box, so I've got 22, 24, 26 - 30g all Temco for almost nothing. They also produce true/real Kanthal A1 under license from Sandvik. ;)
I got a free spool of China N80, but that's used in the garage to tie down walnuts in the mouse trap

So you're almost out then? :D

It's not that I DISlike it, but I've kinda drifted away from Kanthal.

I like Nichrome for mechs. (Kidney Puncher or Lightning Vapes) I won't be pilfering your mousetraps though.

I want to try gold wire, which can be had in our gauges. What I don't wanna try, is 25 bucks for three feet of it.

Platinum is cheaper and supposedly can be used in TC.
    platinum coils

$25 for 3 feet sounds more like gold plated to me, the guy in the thread above paid $60 for 16 inches of 95% Platinum.

Anyone has research on the gold and platinum wires, as far as degradation and long term use.. Sounds interesting..

THIS is the place I was looking at a while back.

So yeah, actually almost 40 bucks a foot for 28ga.

24ga pure Platinum wire is $950 CAD per Metre, the stuff is just to expensive to play with. ;)

    GOOD HEAVENS!!
I could see somebody with money paying 40 bucks for a foot, maybe to experiment with a couple coils, but several hundred? You'd have to be a politician so you could write it into the public budget and let the tax payers pay for it.

I'm seeing that for my usual target resistance (.3) should be 30 for single coil and 32 for duals. Grrr, I'll pick up a spool of 30. It's gone down a whole lot, and now with a DNA it's great. Thanks!

I'm seeing here 168 per meter, 368 for 3 meters (and it should be more than enough).

I still have some 32 ga wire from my Oddyseus times (I used it as non resistance). Maybe I should give it a try.
