I'm was considering buying this and replacing its board with an SX350: https://www.fasttech.com/products/0/10010986/1939800-d2-dna-35-7-35w-variable-wattage-apv-box-mod

It appears to be the same enclosure you have. FT has them in several colors.

Yep, basically the same.. I like the media-blasted look. :) The only differences I see are the addition of up / down buttons, (which is a good thing since the current SX350's are pre-wired for them), the larger firing button, and mine does have a charging indicator hole (which works well with a nice, bright, red / green LED)..

I heard that Hotcig sells DIY enclosures compatible with the SX350, but I don't know where to source them in the States..

Considering their prominence in the modding community and the reputation of their electronics, I think the SXmini exists primarily as a sort of showcase for their new board. I think this accounts at least in part for the overall quality of it. They wanted this entire device to be perfect in the context of what it is and what it's capable of, and I think they've achieved that.

It does bear some resemblance to the ZNA, but I think it's more comparable to the Andromeda (which is itself inspired by the ZNA) in both form factor and design.

I find it very unfortunate that we all have to be shocked when something like this comes out of China, but that's not really our fault as consumers. Personally I want high-quality gear regardless of the country it's manufactured in; and if it's a Chinese company that raises the bar, then so be it. At the end of the day, the bar is raised for everyone, and consumers worldwide benefit from it.

Good post.. :) I agree 100%.. I'm drawn to quality, accuracy, and consistency.. No matter where it's made. ;)

So, do you think that YiHi is not BS'ing about the Mini being a limited run? One hears that a lot, but usually more are made if the 1st run is successful... It would be sad if they pulled the plug on an awesome mod for certain.. I heard something about an extension possibly being made for dual-18650 use, but I can't see how it wouldn't look strange, and be VERY awkward.

IMO, the SXmini is at the top of best mods for 2014... ;) :) There should be a steady supply soon.. Hell, I'm kind of expecting YiHi to come out with a compact dual-18650 version soon. I'd be interested solely for the extra battery life, depending upon how compact and comfortable in the hand it would be.. It's hard to beat the Mini in that department.

YiHi does have the market sewed-up with their chipsets.. From what I gather, they refuse to sell chipsets to OEM's, except for sigelei, Pioneer4U, and perhaps one other.. They also refuse to sell their complete mods to Chinese wholesalers, so I don't expect the prices to drop much soon. I wouldn't trust a cloned YiHi chipset as far as I could throw it, even if they were made available..

As for the ZNA.. Sorry, I traded the one I had months ago. I didn't care for it much.. Not to ruffle feathers, but I find the SXmini much more refined. :)
i'm going to have to wait until after the holidays I think. I did however order a IPV Mini at ele8vape for $56 shipped with the "xmas14" discount code. it'll have to do for awhile ;) and, the SX130 chip that's in it sounds pretty good... 3-8v *check* adjustable 510 *check* however, a floating, spring loaded pin would be optimal ;) love the one on my rDNA40! now, hopefully the little bugger fires straight out of sleep...

now back to the star of the show, the SX mini

I was lucky enough to get one of these at a local B&M. It's a killer device. I would have bought two if they had more than the one they sold me. Loving it so far - this ended my debate with myself over whether to buy a higher wattage device with lesser build quality or a lower wattage device (read P3) with higher build quality. This mod marries those two quite nicely.

Well my sxmini just stopped working this morning. I woke up and it was all lit up displaying xsmini350 v1.3. Pulled the battery for a while. Still nothing. Tried plugging it in the charge and still nothing. Contacted where I got it from and they are gonna send me a new one once I return this one. I'm so bummed

Sorry to hear that... :( This is the 2nd time I've heard of the device displaying the "v1.3".. Mine just boots showing "SXmini", then "SX350".. No "v1.3".. Before I would send it back, I'd try plugging the device into the computer (battery removed), see if it's recognized, and if it is, run the latest upgrade again... Couldn't hurt... ;)

I hope they're BS' ing. I've got my heart set on a silver one from the next batch. It wouldn't surprise me though. Unless they're looking to alter/diversify their business model, they probably just want to sell a ton of these boards to all of the eager mod-makers out there and let those companies sweat the details. On the path to accomplishing that, putting the new SX350 board into a high quality enclosure and selling it at a premium price point is a stroke of marketing genius.

Of course if the Mini proves to be a profitable venture for them, I could certainly imagine YiHi shedding the Evolv approach and mass producing ready-to-vape devices. They'd be crazy not to!

Anyone think the V1.3 could be displayed because it somehow got put into update mode.

yeah, same thing happened to mine. would only display "Sx350mini v1.2" twice in fact, a day after i got it, left it without a battery for a day. came back. then updated the firmware used it for a couple of days and got it again except v1.3.. My only assumption is there are a few duds floating around. After all this is Yihi's first device and there's always the risk of buying something on release. I've sent my first one back and the new one is on its way back to me :). fingers crossed. Really love this mod, but only when it works :p

That's how mine used to work till this morning. Woke up and it was all lit up displaying xsmini350 v1.3. It was working perfect before I went to bed.
