rounding third and heading home...
I've seen even cheaper than that. ;)

The guy running the GB I ordered from said his contact at p4y told him they weren't shipping any ipv4s without the TC firmware update.

$79.99 with free shipping-pretty hard to beat. good news about the firmware update- saves me the trouble of messing with the sxi update program as i haven't had much luck with it so far. i am sure it is something i am not doing right but if it is already installed it will save me the time and trouble. i , too, am a fan of yihi. it doesn't mean i dislike evolv- you can actually like both and liking one doesn't mean you dislike the other. people make it out to be a war when all it is is some good old competition- in the end the winners are all vapers who get better technology and advanced devices. right now it is yihi for me but who knows what it will be in the future. some unknown third party may come up with something that will blow everyone away. i will be a proud foot soldier ready with my credit card to purchase the latest and greatest....thankfully, there are so many of us......

Finally got my mini yesterday, and haven't put it down since then :) I'm glad I got the S class, since I think it will take TC some time to mature...like PB said, we're still in day one.

It had a similar effect on me. I'm using it much more than I thought I would. It's a very nice device, and I'm glad you're liking it too.

A new pic of the SX350J's display when detecting a dry coil / wick:

Yeah, I figure it'll probably take one or two more revisions before things start to get reliable enough as reliable as kanthal builds...

..when it does though. It'll be sweet.

When tempered nickel becomes the standard that vendors sell, it will also become much more reliable.

I have two temp protected devices (Vapor Flask), one with DNA 40 and the other a Chinese clone. The clone seems to hit harder at the same tc and wattage settings. This leads me to believe it might not be doing its job quite as well.

The key to using Temp control is air flow and juice flow. Without both, the temp protection reduces power so fast you get a very thin, cold vape. I have tried all the pre built coils offered by Vapor Shark, but the only acceptable one is the Kanger Sub Tank. I have pretty much settled on built coils. I have had good luck with the Lemo and the RBA head for the Kanger Sub Tank Mini. I am not the best coil builder, but I can not imagine getting a good setup out of a Kayfun, Rose or other si,liar device.

I do not have an Sx Mini s class but have pre ordered the M class.

I didn't think you could temper nickle wire....

According to this Ulbrich Ni200 datasheet Ni200 must be cold rolled to temper as it can not be heat tempered.

Nickel 200 is not recommended for service above 600°F (316°C) because long-time exposures in the 800°F to 1200°F range result in precipitation of a carbon containing phase and loss of ductility.
...
Heat Treatment
Nickel 200 is non hardenable by heat treatment.
...
Properties: Tempered
Nickel 200 can be cold rolled to various tempers. Contact Ulbrich Technical Service for additional information

So far it seems that Stealth Vapes in the UK is the only source of tempered Ni200. The shipping took about a week to the midwest.

Tempered Ni200 is much more like working with Kanthal than using the very soft annealed Ni200 available in the U.S. It makes wicking without distorting the coil a bit easier but I did find that you still have to be quite careful about not breaking the wire when using RDA post holes for dual coils using thinner wire.

I used Varitube as well. I heard on this thread that they have a good working relationship with Yihi. When it comes to new technology like this, I always feel most comfortable doing business with the company directly or licensed retailer. Varitube seems to be the best bet in my opinion.

Varitube has provided a very helpful service to the community by being a conduit of information between modders and YiHi. I don't mod but I've kept up on SX350 technology in their suppliers thread, SX350J board. Varitube also has a YiHi SXmini Mod @ Varitube thread in the suppliers forum.

They use the resistance wire as temperature sensor. Not being possible to use Seebek effect due to compatibility issues, or the actual bridge configuration, I indeed believe they interrupt the power to the resistance wire in the atomiser periodically, and they measure its resistance to determine the temperature closely. Initially only a wire with high resisitivity variation has been used (Ni200) but if they use a high-gain, high CMRR front-end (a good differential amplifier) any wire can be used for sensing. I believe the problem they face is not amplifier gain or noise immunity, but linearity and repeatibility. In order to get a reasonable linear feedback, they need to isolate, and quickly, the power source, controlled by a MOSFET usually. The technology actually exists under the form of "bridge motor controller" but the latter are relatively big in size and doesn't foresee an high impedance status, which is needed here for a good temperature control. As usual, it is matter of investment in a technical research that will be cloned the day after it hits the markets...
