I got my Taifun today! I took it apart and soaked it in alcohol, soap, and hot water for a bit and gave it a rinse and wipe down. Then I put a coil in it. 28 gauge kanthal on a 2.4mm screwdriver, came out to be about 1.6 ohms. Put some rayon through it, put some juice on the wick, filled up the tank and gave it a whirl. First thoughts... I don't think I cleaned this thing well enough, but I'll deal with it for now. There's a slight machine oil taste still. But other than that, I think it vapes pretty good. Hits different than the kayfun. Draw seems looser, but its very smooth. I did remove the middle insulator pipe thingy. I am enjoying it so far. Not sure if I like it more than the Kayfun but I will need more time with it to figure that out. But no complaints! Except that its 23mm and freaking HUGE. I'll get my nano kit on Monday probably so I'll convert to that to reduce the size.

had my Taifun for over a month and am still not sure how to clean the base good. I know I am not supposed to submerge it but I feel like it has junk down in the crevices. What to do?
I submerge mine all the time, well sort of, running hot tap water through it and slinging it out afterward. Just don't have the screws loose or you may lose them. There's nothing inside the base that water is going to hurt.

Does the coil position or how far down the inner coil dome (with the wick cut outs) is pushed down have a lot of effect on the vape quality? And should the wicks barely stick out of the holes or is it generally better to leave it a tad bit longer so it goes into the tank more?

I would try to line up the coil so the wick is straight and level as possible. Let it hang about 2-3mm into the tank. Let it drop down a bit. As long as it fills that wick hole on the chimney base you should have no problems.

Run hot tap water to flush it then drop it into some vodka to get good and clean let dry well. Then rebiuld. I do it with both mine many times no problem.

Live Free,Ride Free,Or die fighting for the Right to do so!

Much thanks!

Sorry I have been away from this thread for awhile.....but all the while enjoying my TGT's and even have The EYE coming :D

Anyway I did read (skim) through most of the posts while I have been away, but I have a question regarding the FT hcigar clone or FT with spare parts clone.

I got two of them right when they were available. I sent one to a friend and kept one. Both of us are having unexplained leaking (both 510 and airhole). The 510 is easy enough to fix, but I was wondering if this was common with this model from FT and if there are any fixes I overlooked?

I have an authentic TGT as well as two or three of the original FT TGT's. I have taken the bases apart before and etc.....just didn't want you to think this was my first rodeo

I haven't had any time to spend to investigate closer (yet). Any insight would be much appreciated :D

Bapgood, did you ever get to the bottom of this? I have the exact same problem: authentic working fine, and now a clone with an identical build in it that seems to leak straight into the base. It's peculiar, I even tried a few different wicking strategies (that were never necessary with the authentic) and the inevitable flood seems to happen without regard to what I'm doing with the build.

I have two HCigar clones, they work just fine. I have two Fasttech and both leak regardless of build. I did find that the base of the build platform on one was not secured well to the base. (I hope that little verbal description was at least opaque if not clear.) I believe that is the source of the Fasttech leak; just very poor production - I was unable to repair it satisfactorily.
If I was to buy another clone, it would be the HCigar. I like the HCigar Taifun GT so well that I decided to pay for an original and it is on the way. I can't imagine that it will perform any better than the HCigar. I have only done this one time before, that is contribute economically to the folks who expended their capital in development. So, I have put the money where the mouth is.

Do you mean that the two press-fit parts of the base had a leak in them? I could have overlooked that since my suspicion immediately fell on the chamber/collar and corresponding o-ring. If the leak was entirely in the base, how did you find it out?

Incidentally the clone I have is HCigar and there is not too much between it and the authentic, perhaps the quality of the stainless.

What's a good place to get a for-sure HCigar GT clone from? I'm kinda used to FT and angelcigs prices (not more than $23) but I'd be willing to pay a little more to not have to do another sloppy dremmel-job.

I got one at vape playground for $25, and though I am having problems with it I can tell you that the kit is right (same exact spares and box) and the machining top-notch. Much better than the one I got from angelcigs. But it is leaking from the base like a madman.

Re: Taifun GT leaking. If it's the occasional drop now and again I believe it is able to leak into the 510 of the mod when the adjustable 510's screw of the Taifun GT is not screwed in far enough for that tiny o-ring under it's head to seal or it's missing altogether.
If it's flooding excessively and running out the air inlet hole on the side of the base then there is air leaking into the tank.
The latter is assuming that it is wicked properly and user is not pulling it in with excessive draws. Check tank o-rings ect.
I have 3 FT ones and one original and my friend has 2 clones that I service. I see no difference in leakage between them, for the most part they are all trouble free.

And I want to add this: If I were to buy another it would be without a doubt the FastTech type B.
