Wanting to start DIYing but deciding on flavors is driving me batty. I've got like $225 of flavoring in my cart at ECX! Tobaccos, Fruits, Florals and Add-ons. I mainly vape tobaccos but there are a few flavors I really want to try. Gin/Tonic, some floral teas and a few on the fruity side. Can somebody list what they'd consider the Must-Haves in everybody's DIY kit? Maybe I can narrow it down a bit. I am kinda obsessive so I'm not surprised to find myself here. So far I've only done two juices and they were both from extracts one cigar and one herbal tea. It actually surprised me they turned out so well. Should I just take the plunge and hit CheckOut or should I go slower?

I recommend ordering 5 - 8 flavs at first. Work with those until you're convinced which ones will work fer ya; and then order some new ones to 'play' with.

I jumped in with both DIY feet and now have waaay too many flavs awaiting my attention!

Sitting down, facing forward.
I'll throw in my two cents on this one. I'm certainly no expert and everyone likes different methods, flavors and combinations thereof.

I've found DIY flavor testing is a slow process at best. To me, mixing and dripping just don't tell me if a flavor is good for extended vaping or not. First there's the problem of steeping, which is very important with tobacco flavors, because it takes a week or two for the flavors to mellow so mixing then dripping just don't work out well. That slows things down tremendously.

Mixing a milliliter doesn't work for me either. That's nowhere near enough to determine if a flavor works as an all day flavor. I mix five milliliter test batches an may up that to ten milliliters. DIY is inexpensive enough to toss it if I don't like it at all, and I'm cheap enough to vape those ones that are sort of OK.

I'd suggest some tobacco flavors, a caramel, a chocolate and a coffee for basic tobacco flavors. Fruits and confections, you're on your own with whatever you think you might like. Oh, add some ethyl maltol to help mellow flavors as well. To me EM significantly reduces the floral notes of most tobaccos.

Well, first of all, stick with a few of each category to start.

For tobacco I use caramel, ethyl malto, tobacco absolute with my tobacco flavoring:)

I leave a 3x5 card and a pen near the computer and then when I read about flavors, I can write them down for future purchase. I started out with about 25 flavors, threw out one flavor it was so bad to me and now have about 75 flavors but that is after 6 months of DIY. I buy flavors whenever I buy the nic unless I am running out of something vital.

I agree with Iffy. Don't go nuts on the flavoring. I did and I have over 150 of them now. Just experimenting with additives like AP, EM, Flash, Smooth, Koolada, TA, MTS Vape Wizard, etc. can take months. I favor tobacco and while I'm satisfied with 3 ADV's in that category I'm still experimenting. My advise would be to stock up on nicotine. Then additives. Then tobacco flavors. The basics like honey, caramel, vanilla, chocolate, cream, graham, etc. If your into tobaccos I would then concentrate on nut flavors. Remember, these concentrates will expire eventually and why get stuck with dill pickle and crab juice when you could have gotten some gourmet tobacco concentrates. Save the fruits for last and read, read again, then research before you buy. All strawberries are not alike and you can wind up with five different ones before you research and find out the one you don't have is best. Rule #1 - Taste is subjective. Rule #2 - See rule #1.

FA is a good choice. If your getting a chocolate I'd suggest Capella's chocolate fudge brownie. Hangsen tobacco concentrates are pretty good. I really like the choices available at ECx and they have 100mg nic! I'm waiting on an order now that is mostly tobacco but a bottle of horehound is in it. Need that to try a Pluid recipe. FA Burley is another in the order. I need to find some decent fire and honey cured tobaccos.

I guess I'll try to trim the list down. Maybe 5-6 from each category. Surely I can get down to the $100 range. I know me though and I'll be ordering the rest of them in short order. Most of them are FA flavors, any I should steer clear of?

Wizard labs has a good assortment of flavoring in 8ml bottles at a good price. I would start there first since you will be testing small amounts. You can always get bigger bottles from Tpa or Ecigxpress. I jumped in way too much on flavorings at first and still have tons of unopened ones. They should be getting fully stocked soon since they just moved. Flavor Lab
