I don't smoke, and that's how I would answer if asked.

For those of you being tested for nicotine, is this for a self-pay insurance? I have my insurance (life, medical, dental, and vision) through work, and have never been tested for nicotine, even when I doubled my life insurance (they just had me fill out a questionnaire and I was approved - and the same for my long-term disability coverage).

That's exactly the same for me too. My company offers life insurance for all family members. Quite a bit actually and we've never had to go through testing.

Yes and it's agony to watch. I think a living will is the best thing anyone can do for themselves.
Googling "living will" now...

Ah, my wife is my living will.
But she is not allowed to die before me.

Then again, I am not allowed to die before her either.
So I guess we will both just have to live forever.
:)

Mr. Robin and I have a living will. We have had it for years now. We have also had a regular will drawn up.

For life insurance, they usually only ask if you are a tobacco user or not, NOT if you are a smoker or not. Also you will not be tested until your autopsy. If you lied your family will be the ones who get screwed when the claim gets denied.

The insurance companies are looking for anything that they can use to raise rates as the Obamacare law is going to leave them in a bind for money made by their insurance arm.
They won't tell you how much they make from other investments because if you look at the stock market their stock doesn't go down. YET.
Save e-cig users from the insurance companies & the liberal politicians. Vote for candidates that understand e-cigs & the fact that doctors are just as uninformed as the rest of the public.
My doctor praised me for using my e-cig & getting off the analogs.
In the end it is all about MONEY not health.
Just follow the money.

This will be my first year (of the 30 yrs I've been employed by my current employer) that I will be X-ing the non-tobacco user box. I'm a little concerned with the lie because it specifically names "including..., and e-cigarettes... " And specifically says for last 6 months. That part I won't be lying about :) I've never known the company to do nicotine testing EVER. So that's my dilemma. If they decide to test folks, I just hope I'm given enough notice to drop down to 0mg for however long it may take to get out of my system. I'm pretty sure the Skoal users at the company lie about their tobacco use also.

As I keep saying for medical insurance you can get away with it. With Life Insurance you cannot. If you die with a certain level of nicotine in your system and you did not check Tobacco user on the box then the Ins company will NOT pay out. If you die suddenly, like in a car accident you will not have time to switch to 0 nic.

Personally I will never uncheck the Tobacco user box. I would hate to think I quit completely and then for some reason had a couple of cigarettes one day and died in the car on the way home. Besides I only pay like $2 month more for my Life Insurance being a Tobacco use than if I wasn't. That $24 per year is worth the peace of mind knowing they can't deny the claim over something so petty.

Well. First off, I'm not a coroner, but I have seen a few autopsy reports/drug screenings, and I have yet to see a test for nicotine. Recreational and prescription pharmaceuticals and alcohol, yes. That's not saying it won't start happening in the future.

Secondly, should that happen to my family, I'll advise them now to get an attorney and an independent test for WTA's. Either that or keep a pack of nicorette gum in my pocket, lol.
