You are right used as designed there would be no tension. I'm experimenting with a kuro koiler which for all intents and purposes is the same thing and tension is possible but still playing with it. I mentioned the video review so you could see it in action even though without a doubt it is not for Super X to put a short summary on it.

Correct my man. Not for me :). I wouldn't recommend it to anyone looking to make anything other than cute coils. It, used as designed, produces only formed coils. I figure that if one wanted to go thru the trouble of chucking the spinner part in a vice and taping the wire to the handle and run it in reverse by spinning the handle (keeping the wire on the spool) it could possibly make a tensioned coil but you'd still be dealing with a starter leg and the hassle of trying to make something work the opposite of how it was intended.

Way to much effort IMO to try to adapt it to tensioned application when there's things like the Artistic Wire Coil Gizmo already available, that will KILL this thing 7 ways till Sunday and cost less.

And this would be the long summary :D

LOL - yep :) you could reduce it down to three words - the last one being "balls" and the first one being "they" when it comes to my opinion on any of these "koiler" dealios :)

Man I can't believe thus coiler gizmo. I used to make perfectly tensioned coils with my vise. Been using it since Mac suggested tension. But the advantage with the coiler gizmo is first the legs as superx said, but most importantly, IT'S FREAKING FAST!! I'm doing coils in no time!

Happy to be probably the only 1 in greece who has this gizmo. Hek I was surprised I even found it in greece lol. Thanks super.

The electrical trades particularly telephony were using the pin vise methinks across two centuries. You would think somebody like The Bell System would've come up with a more practical way to hand build an element to precise resistance if one was there to be found.

Like why I puzzled that strain wasn't being used in vaping despite all the attendant knowledge and industry.

Sometimes things defy explanation.

Good luck jim.

:)

Superx, how do you insure that your washers and wing nut don't hit the pole of the gizmo while pressing the coil against it?

You start the first wrap with the rod out a little bit from the upright, then you slide the rod in after the first wrap. You also don't wanna use ginormous washers or hardware.

For me its more because I have one of these but not one of those. Believe me not trying to reinvent the wheel or coil. I do have a pin vise in my amazon cart thanks to your reccomendation though. I also have an artistic gizmo, just hate setting it up and taking back down so will mount it at some point plus I travel a lot atm so need something a little more carry friendly. Want to thank you, super x, and bmv for all you do for the community. Keep it up.

Sxd what were you saying about a 1.6mm diameter. I don't recall exactly atm. Something about it turns out that it is the actual size of the rod on the gizmo or that you prefer 1.5mm? Wondering because I found a rod on amazon that is 1.6mm I recalled you mentioning that specific diameter just not what you said about it.

Yeah I do that but I realized from your videos your wing nut is vertical mine always lands horizontal lol. Maybe if I add an additional washer I would counter it ;)

Hey Jim :) I'm not sure of the exact size of the rod but it's just a hair larger than a 1/16" drill bit.

I like the coil ID to be in the 1/16" range so 8 winds nails my resistance :). I never run less than 8 winds anymore and prefer not to increase beyond 8 either :)

That's where a thumb screw helps. Then you hold the wing nut and turn the thumbscrew. Here - check this vid bro :) I list the hardware :)

I see that Jim beat me to it. Thanks bro :)

So here we have it; the baseline resistance target for super_X_drifter on the Odin!

29AWG, 8/7, .0625" 1.5875mm i.d., KGD, 12mm L/L, t.m.c.= 0.7105Ω

Right in the sub–Ω green zone.

And a pretty healthy warm vape it is at 4.2V, 25W (221mW/mm2).

With t.m.c.'s that comes off as a pretty cool dense vape.

Vape on bro!

:)
