the forum is still working fine for me
corazon, this ^^^^^^ doesn't mean a thing!
this, below, does:
''Currently Active Users (Show Who's Online)
There are currently 1282 users online. 656 members and 626 guests
Most users ever online was 3,816, 02-19-2012 at 10:22 PM''.
i have no problems in forums that consistently have more users online ..........
I was amused by the WebTV reference..... they followed Apple ll's, didn't they? Not nearly enuff processing power or ram to load this forum.cj, congaman is not alone in having no problems; but there are way too many of us who do. i really believe it's the luck of the draw through which of ecf's servers you connect.
maybe is the way I use my puter..........
my DTG
Yes I agree Calamity, answers, not reasons why, ratios, math class, computers 101...just simple reasonable answers that we all can understand and look forward to a remedy to help the forum...
Come to think of it I saw in a thread a year back I do believe...
That some got around the server lock by logging out and back in (cookies cleared). You may just switch servers was the defense.
Don't know about you all but I'm set to "remember me" and so log in with an open of a tab.
so a assume I've been on the same server for a long time.
Well This thread has been up for a few days now, any response???
dns flushed.... still laggy with 504'sActually while I don't know about this particular incident... I do know what they are refering to and part of it does require clearing the cookie as you mentioned...
When a website or forum is moved from one server ( or group of servers ) to another... your computer on the other end has "remembered" the old address of where the server ( servers ) were located at... clearing the cookie is part of telling your computer the new info on where the new location is.
So this wasn't a "defense"... it was them addressing the problem in the only way it could be addressed. In fact, the cookie was only part of it... there is also other technical issues that needed updated that your computer and even your internet provider's computers needed to have updated... if you want to know more... look up "dns cache" and "ip tables" but be aware that is some higher than "computer 101" type of info
I'm not trying to pick on you whiskey but what you are asking brings up something that many overlook...
When there is a technical problem that needs resolved... the answer is also going to be technical and there really isn't a way around it... so in the end, the answer they find they need to resolve the issue will probably be way past "computer 101" class level...Okay...what ever the level...we know theres an issue and want to know if and when its going to be remedied
Luckily as users... really we don't need to know the answer, just that they can or will resolve it. Let them deal with the technicalities which are their responsibility to know and understand... not ours. True, my question was simple, thanks
Of course, these types of things are seldom straight forward which is likely why it has taken ( is taking ? ) them this long to try and find the underlying cause ( if they don't know it already )Almost a year????
