I always heard that the best birth control for those over 50 was nudity. After looking at myself in a bathing suit and realizing it is even worse without the suit.....well, I do believe that now.

Happy late afternoon, fellow TT roommates...getting ready to take the cat for a vet check up. She loves to be caged and go for a car ride....the only thing in her life she has liked better was being neutered. So I am looking forward to this trip. NOT!!!
Omg....she screams and hollers the whole way.....once there, she makes noises like a dying parrot when they draw her blood..she has to have it checked because she is prediabetic. I hate this trip twice a year. I will need a vacation even more after this!!!!

Wish me luck.

LOL grams! My African Grey sounds exactly like a hawk when he has his blood drawn :) they draw it from the neck in parrots so I can't say that I blame them much for not liking it :)

Today is day 69 with consecutive temperatures over 100 degrees here in East Texas.

The big thing in the local news is peoples water wells drying up. Ponds and small lakes dried up a long time ago.

TT

You know I live very close to Lake Hartwell (like any of you have ever heard of that) but it runs through GA and SC it is a very large lake. Anyway up until last year the drought was so bad that when we crossed the bridges we could see peoples boats laying in that nasty red clay dirt that they have up here on their side. What used to be water was now dirt. It was something like 30 ft below normal level :( It is still way low but has improved a good bit :)

Salem, when they do a fructosamine test on my cat, they also take that from the neck....that is the one that makes her shriek like a parrot. So your parrot shrieks like a hawk? Maybe that is what my cat sounds like too--I never heard a hawk before. Even the vet tech said she had never heard a cat make that kind of noise before...it is really a terrible sound.

Well, survived the vet and had some news....her blood sugar has always been high and we have had to give her small doses of insulin in shot form...well, last week I ordered some herbal capsules from a natural pet care website that were designed to help the cat pancreas produce insulin and we have been giving that to her for 3 days....her blood sugar was LOW today, so the vet said to not give her insulin and bring her back tomorrow for another check--if this capsule is working that well, it will mean no more insulin...we'll see. Keeping my fingers crossed. She got on the counter a couple of years ago and ate about 1/4 cup of bacon grease that was cooling. That gave her pancreatitis.....she had to have surgery and was in intensive care for over a week, so we do have to monitor her blood sugar. We have a glucose monitor here, but she fights us so much, we gave up and just take her to the vet. AND WE GOT A CAT CAUSE THEY ARE SUPPOSED TO BE EASIER TO CARE FOR THAN DOGS....MY ...!!

Well, it is dinner time here, need to refuel...will be back later.

That sounds like very encouraging news for your cat, Gramva. I am glad to hear that the capsules may be working so well for her.

@Salem - I know Lake Hartwell!! Beautiful lake - an entirely different kind of pretty than Lake Murray where I lived before. Lake Murray was the same a few years back during the drought - all the boats on dry red clay, the water 30-40 ft away from the end of the dock. It was a miserable summer, for sure.

But not anywhere as miserable as the one my dear friends in Texas are going through - I know you don't really want a tropical storm and its damage, yet I hope that you catch the rains from the newest low that has formed in the Gulf. I'll keep my fingers crossed - any that arent' already crossed for other reasons, that is. :)

Big disappointment here. Not going to make it to the Watermelon Seed Spitting Contest!!! DH is retired, but works if they happen to need him...You guessed it...They needed him today and he just got home....Probably for the best for me as it is still 100 deg out there at almost 7:00. So not going to be adding WSSC to my list of having been to Two County Fairs and a Hog Calling Contest! Now that HCC was something to be in on! I had to climb a tree cuz I thought they were going to trample me cuz I was so good they all came in my direction!!!

That would be so great if you could stop the insulin for your cat Gramva. I hope you get good news tomorrow, and it's sorted out before your vacation.

Do hope that everyone that needs some moisture gets some soon. Thank goodness we are on city water. Cistern that we use to water the tomatoes went dry sometime ago, so had to start using the city water for that also.....

And man, I hate that city water.

That stuff would gag a cat with a needle in its neck!

Hey Toto: If I ever need any hogs called, I will be sure and let you know. LOL. Sorry you missed out on the watermelon seed spitting contest. People in Illinois miss out on all the good things. I do think Chicago has a hot dog eating contest, but that sounds boring in comparison.

And how devastating about all the lakes drying up....guess we just take water for granted until a drought comes along. We were in Asheville a few years back and there was a big drought going on and the big lake in that area was drying up. I read in the paper there about how many millions of dollars in tourism the area lost because of that lake being so dry.

TT--I am with Pokey--hopefully some rain will come in off the gulf and if it does, does it ever reach over to where SC lives? It must be awful watching every outdoor plant begging for water.

I am not going to hang around too much tonight. I seem to have got sick. I feel feverish and stuffy and worst of all..no taste! I pulled out my juices that I don't like and am vaping that. Better not waste the good tasting stuff on dead taste buds.

I need to rest up for this weekend. My wife, 2 daughters and I are huge Beatles fans and there is a big Beatles tribute event this weekend near Washington. Probably close to 100 bands playing Beatles and other '60's music. It is an event called Abbey Road on the River. 6 stages set up for these bands to play from noon until 2AM Friday, Saturday, Sunday and wrap it up with a smaller 10 band jam on Monday. We are only going for Saturday, but we got a hotel room for the night.

Shoul be a great time! I don't want to be sick for that.

I hate this red clay dirt up here :) Never will get used to it. It is nasty, stains and hard to grow anything in :) Back to the world of bottling and labeling lol I was just taking a vape break :)

There's a storm forming out in the Gulf but their projecting for it to come into Louisiana which would put us on the left side of the storm (the weak side) so we would get a lot less rain from it - if any at all. SecondChance is on west of us so I would imagine he has even less of a chance of seeing rain than we do.

The thing about the city water, I guess I'd go ahead and get it installed, but I have to pay to run the water line to the house and that's about half a mile. Definitely not cheap. I might have to bite the bullet soon though and have it done ...especially if we don't start seeing rain pretty soon.

Maybe the rains will start one of these days.

Padre: Love the Beatles also. Sounds like a great time....live music is always fun. Hope you are feeling well by then.

Is it my computer, or is the forum really slow tonight? My likes and my posts are taking forever to show up.

The forum has been acting up for a few days now :(
