We grew up eating squirrel....squirrel hunting is big in some areas....it is actually quite good...fried, then put in the oven and covered with gravy from the frying drippings. Baked slow, it gets very tender. But that was many years ago when store bought meat was still mainly for rich people in this country.

OK--Dumb question...what is the SB?

You guys didn't get any rain yet? I am happy your okay SC.

I have seen people eat squirrel and possum. Roadkill.

Urrrgh! I'd never eat road kill.

But I have eaten a lot of squirrel and one time - you won't believe this, my wife fixed possum the way her grandmother taught her and took it to a really fancy dinner at a NASA space shuttle pilots house in Clear Lake City near Houston. You'd know the guy if I said his name!

Everyone loved it and completely cleaned it up. She never did tell them what it was. Just said it was a secret family recipe.

We've eaten rabbit. I wonder if squirrel & possum taste like that. Hmmm. We always had fried rabbit for Easter dinner when I was growing up. My stepdad would tell us he'd caught the Easter bunny. Warped sense of humor, but I carried on the tradition with my own kids using chicken since rabbit has gotten hard to find in the markets.

What IS SB ??? Perhaps Echo will tell us, if SC won't...

I have a cook book from the 40's with a squirrel cooking guide. It also has a recipe for pigeon pie.

I have heard that people were so poor that they ate fresh roadkill. I know a few people in WI that hit deer with their cars and reaped the benefit.

I've heard of the deer thing. My son hit a deer in Calif. in June, and a man appeared out of the woods, and took it away...

Rabbit is absolutely delicious! I honestly don't think there is a better tasting meat. We used to eat it all the time when I was a kid in New Mexico. Really good meat!

To me, the best of the best is elk.

Man, I've eaten fresh elk and honestly, beef isn't even in the same ball park.
