TFV8 temp control?

Hello all!

I'm a new owner of a TFV8 tank. I was under the impression that the tank had temperature control (stainless steel) coils available. Specifically, my shop of choice told me the V8-X4 coils were stainless steel.
The coil box does indeed say the word stainless on the back, but it says "Color: stainless"
I assume this means the color of the actual coil barrel, but that doesn't make sense considering afaik there aren't any other colors.
So I try an X4 coil, and my RX200 immediately kicks it out of stainless mode. This leads me to conclude it is a kanthal coil, and the stainless moniker is simply referring to the color of the barrel.
I look aaaaall over the internet and I cannot find any information regarding the material that the coil is made of. Google searches simply return results for stainless colored tanks. So once again, I'm led to believe that there is no temp control option for this tank.
Yet today, I go to my store and the counter gal is vaping happily on hers in SS mode on a Sigeli.
So maybe it's a different alloy of SS that my device doesn't have a profile for??
I'm so confused on this. Does anybody have any information on the material that tfv8 coils are made of? (Specifically, any temp control capable coils.) Are there any coil models that are TC?

And if not, I welcome recommendations on a comparable tank that is TC capable. I love my freemax Scylla, and every freemax model before that, but it has become impossible to get coils for it. Any recommendations on an alternative?

It might be outside your current skill set/level, but the TFV8 comes with a dandy RBA section, and SS wire - even prebuilt coils - are relatively inexpensive...

Also, on checking a touch further, I see that Joyetech Ornate tanks have an available SS316L 0.15 ohm coil available.

Not in quite the same class, but the Geekvape Eagle also has SS316L coil heads available.

Appreciate the recommendations! I'm fully capable of building my own coils on the deck... I just don't want to lol. It's such a hassle, and nearly impossible to wick it perfectly to get the same flavor out of it as you get from the premade coils. I've tried many times now, and the flavor is always muted compared to the premade heads. I do still build on a dripper from time to time when I'm feeling like it, I just don't want to have to do it regularly.

I plan to build my TFV8 RBA with SS when my octo-coil dies and try it in TC with my G-Priv.

I am not a fan of nickel or titanium as I generally don't use TC, but I bought a lot of stainless wire as it allows me to vape in wattage mode and also TC when I want to screw around with it.

I'll report back once I get around to trying TC with the TFV8. I do also have concerns that it might be a difficult RBA to wick to get a vape similar to the beastly Smok factory coils.

I'd like to know too! Ever since switching to 316L wire, I've completely stopped using Kanthal wire (haven't tried nickel or titanium). So for me to buy the TFV8, it has to be great with SS and temp control. Otherwise, I'm sticking to my Velocity V2 for now.

It's great with ss, that's all I vape too. I spin my own claptons. Temp control? never had luck with it on my tfv8. But, its a cloud chasing tank, never really considered them tc compatible. They might be, but I feel the best tc tanks are the ones with the fewest connections between the post and the coil, and a single coil. Dual coils, i feel, seem to mess with tc.

I used to feel that way, but I've found that most of my newer devices can temp limit dual coils and complex build pretty well. The older units still get plain old single coils.

One of the issues with using a modern cloud chasing tank in TC, though, is the wicking. Because the mod cuts out at a certain temp, the remaining liquid in the coils is held there, and that can lead to leaking and seeping. They're designed to guzzle eliquid in conjunction with HUGE coils, so liquid sipping TC coils do not fare as well... just my $0.02...

I know it's kind of weird to want TC with the cloud beast. But I got it expecting it to be just that... a cloud beast. But I'm finding that coils are wearing out and burning within a few days, even with me vaping at the sweet spot for a particular coil.
This thing was supposed to be a hot rod, and it simply hasn't performed. I figured getting a temp control coil would at least allow me to keep it from burning while still getting that massive airflow.
I honestly would have never left my Freemax Scylla if I was able to still find coils for it. Best tank ever made, IMO. On the TFV8, i've had to buy a pack of coils every week between my wife and I. When I run out of coils and can't get to the store to get a pack, I grab my Scylla and use it until I can get to the store... the nickel coil in it has been there since my shop couldn't get any more coils. That was 2 months ago.... It's still going strong.

On a better note, I did finally get a good SS build on the deck, and finally found a sweet spot for wicking it so it doesn't leak, but still has flavor. It's the best experience I've had on the TFV8 by far. No burning, but still a nice hot vape with tons of airflow. The question is... can I replicate it next time? Lol.
