I have been off the stinkies for 5 hours:D. Might not sound like much but that is a major victory for myself. I have smoked for 48 years! What is that first puff (vaping) like when one gets out of bed on the first morning? What should one expect? Is it rough? BTW, I was a 4/5 pack a day chain smoker! I honestly do not even crave one AMAZING!!!

Wow! 4 -5 packs a day! Congratulations :toast:!! I though I smoked a lot but that is rough. I say that in all sincerity and hope all the best in your effort to quit the stinkies. The morning routine was the hardest part for me to get over personally. Not going out to the garage and freezing my .... off in the morning to choke down a cup of coffee, smoke five or six analogs, and clear the crap out of my throat was a physical habit that was tough to kick (twenty seven years of that). After the first couple of days it got easier by the day though. Just find a new place to have your first puffs in the morning and keep the other routine intact. At least that is what worked for me. You will probably notice some big changes in the next week or so. As the coating of poo comes off of your tongue and out of your throat you may develop some sore spots on your tongue and the inside of your cheeks. Don't sweat it! They go away quickly and are signs of healing, not negative symptoms (confirmed by my Dr. who is 100% behind the e-cig trend). The little sores are your taste buds that have been damaged recovering and becoming alive again. The "sore" isn't really painful, just a little irritating.

Again - congrats to you, your health, and your wallet.

Excellent job Keith.

I found other tobacco substitute products to be less than a desirable myself.

I'm glad you found vaping to be pleasant and useful. It's wonderful to be able to breathe well and have a clear throat in the morning. It's also amazing to have a much improved sense of smell and taste.

Stick with it. This forum is full of very helpful and knowledgeable folks who can help you with equipment and juices.

I found my juice preferences to change over time. Your mileage may vary :)

Typed on my mobile. Please excuse typos.

The first vape to me every morning is the closest comparison to smoking than any other. Rough, kind of scratchy and harsh, gives you a nice nic buzz and really gets the day started. It's almost exactly like smoking a cigarette, but a little smoother and it doesn't stink in the cold car.

That first vape is really the best part of the day.

Good luck!

For first thing in the morning i initially went to a really firm tobacco flavor, at one bump up in nic level.

Hint for people who want a firm tobacco, if an eliquid doesn't have quite enough tobacco taste. There is something called tobacco absolute, sold by the perfumers apprentice. Buy a small bottle of their ta diluted, add just a couple of drops per 10 ml of a regular tobacco eliquid, shake and vape, you will have a notably stronger tobacco flavor.

Similarly, for menthol fans a small bottle of their liquid menthol concentrate goes a long way to punch up the menthol aspect of an eliquid. Just add a couple drops per 10 ml, shake and do a test vape.

Congratulations on joining us in vaping!

I know that this is not typically a viable answer for a new vaper, but I use a variable wattage PV and typically vape at 7-8 watts in the morning and might end up between 10-12 watts by the time it's retired for the day.

You can get the same (similar) effect by using a higher Ω atty in the morning for a softer hit, less TH. Then switch to a normal Ω atty for the day.

The most enjoyable moments of smoking for me were the first half a dozen or so cigs right after waking up with a large cup of coffee. Those were probabably the only cigarettes I really enjoyed. Later on during the day I just smoked and smoked without having much fun.
Vaping is different. I enjoy about 80% of my puffs. Though I do not really enjoy the first ones of the day. Reaching out for my pv is not the first thing I do in the morning.

First vape in the morning is not the same as first cigarette in the morning. Maybe because im using lower nicotine level is my cigarettes was. But its just because i like to vape alot (alot more than i smoked cigarettes) so i need to use lowe mg.

And as Ostinato said - vaping is a ture enjoy all the time. cigarettes were not.

The first vape of the day was the hardest for me. Not because it is harsh - although it can be. For me the problem was that I woke up with very strong cravings. The vape hits me slower than smoke so I would vape my brains out and end up nic-sick but never feeling satisfied. This only lasted about a week so hang in there. Now I wake up with no cravings and don't even pick up my ego until after breakfast.

For me, once I started vaping, the only times I craved a real cig was first thing in the morning with my coffee. It wasn't a strong craving, just a feeling of being not quite satisfied, and I vaped through it and didn't pick up a real cig. The rest of the day, I was very happy with vaping. The reason I had cravings was because I hadn't found a juice that satisfied me for that first vape. Then a couple of weeks after I started, I tried yet another juice I had ordered and whammo--I knew it was the one and I haven't had a craving since. So if your morning vape isn't quite what you had hoped, try different juices and nic strengths until you find one that works. Five hours is a great accomplishment. Be proud of yourself.

When i started out, i was just cutting down and it was that first cig (or three) of the day that i found hardest to give up. I had some great advice on here to up my nicotine first thing on a morning to stem those cravings.

Weirdly, i didn't have my first vape of the day today until id been awake for 6hours-and that's how i knew my hangover was bad!lol!

Keep up your good work! As others have said, there's a lot of support here for you when you need it. It sounds like a HUGE transition for you and i just want to repeat another good bit of advice i received that if you do need a cig, have one. Count the cigarettes you didn't smoke.

Congratulations so far! I shall eagerly wait your one year vapiversary!x

Congrats, by now your over the 10 hr mark hopefully. I noticed once I started vaping I had no cravings for cigarettes and since I could vape in my house or at work cravings never built up. I will say the first vape in the morning (afternoon for me I work nights) is great cause I don't even have to put on pants or get out of bed if I don't want to lol. Best of luck

4-5 PAD smokers blow my mind. I don't understand how that's even possible without having a cigarette in your mouth all the time. I've seen many people on here post that they smoked that much, so I know it's true.

Props to you for quitting right away. I only smoked a pack a day and it took me 6 months to find the right setup and totally get away from the cigs.
