Had an experience yesterday I thought was funny and had to share!

Yesterday at work I was outside having a vape with all the smokers. I usually get questions on what my VTR is, how it works and IF it works. So the smoker I was talking with points to my protank and says 'that's what's you are putting in your lungs? Yuck! I would never do that! '

Before I could say anything another guy pipes up holding up his cigarette and says 'well what the hell is in this? ?'

My uncle is like that. "You don't know what's in that stuff!!!" all while chain smoking unfiltered Camels. I pointed out that he's inhaling over 4,000 unknown chemicals, but reason isn't one of his strong suits. My mother in law tried vaping for a bit, but recently gave up due to the bad press. She's now convinced I'm inhaling pure poison and that people are dropping dead all over the world by vaping. I pointed out that the only death attributed to e-liquid was a guy who committed suicide by injecting the stuff, but she remains unconvinced. She lectures my husband and I all the time while smoking two packs a day of Marlboro light 100's. It's sad, what the media is doing to vaping. Big Tobacco must be paying a fortune for these "news" stories.

They gotta keep up their revenues somehow. And if it can't be done with irrefutable evidence, they'll resort to deceit and outright lies to achieve their goal. After all, the only thing that matters is making money.

What strikes me is this - Why slander a business that you're getting into yourself? They're buying up larger cigalike companies, aren't they? Then again, many of the stories focus on the liquids in bottles and tanks. Looks like they're out to ban anything but cigalikes, which are cheaper to produce, break down far faster, and have a higher failure rate for quitting smoking so that they can continue to make money off the stinkies. However, with CVS removing cigarettes from their stores, I gotta wonder why they don't embrace e-cigarettes a bit more then they do. I'd be worried about store fronts following CVS in removing cigarettes, even if the government banning them isn't a possibility.

I may be new but I've already experienced the same. I kinda like it because when I say I made my liquid (if I did) I say "actually, its vegetable glycerin, water, flavor and nicotene." Lol I feel like I'm being mean but I think its funny lol

I would even follow that up with, "I can tell you every chemical in the substance I'm inhaling, can you list every one of the 4,000+ chemicals in your cigarette? I'd hazard a wager that you can't, and, until you can, keep your judgements to yourself about what I'm putting in MY lungs." 'Nuff said.

I dunno. With over 4,000 chemicals to choose from, they could get lucky. Just sayin'...

I was picking through this thread without then intention of posting until I saw this.

It really seems to me that the tobacco industry is pushing the government to bring in regulations in order to bring up barriers to enter the market. They want to drive out the little guys that stand no chance of being able to afford compliance with regulations and registering their products. They are buying the bigger companies to either completely dominate the market or dismantle the companies and outright destroy vaping. Then only they would have a market share in the ecig industry or they would have totally destroyed it in this scheme. Does nobody else see this happening?

it's now a time honored tradition in big business... especially those who afford the luxury of "being regulated" by their old pals at the FDA. ;)

just wait until the little guys realize they have to take their stuff to the big businesses where the FDA has allowed them to set up shop to get their stuff tested and approved... and pay the big guys that got them regulated out of business or into the slums for the privilege.

My non-smoking wife loves that I now vape. I can vape in the house, and even vape when in the same room as her. The 'possible' unknown effects of vaping are nothing when compared to the known effects of smoking. Vaping got me off analogs completely, my doctors say I am a non-smoker now

When someone wants to argue about my vaping, I simply use small words, and usually end it with if the only two choices are either me smoking, or me vaping, which do you prefer? As another member pointed out, if you have fallen into the ocean, and see a lifeboat in the distance, you are not going to stop to check to see if it is an 'approved' lifeboat before getting in are you? When the other choice is drowning?

i like your logic. but tell me: how do we find out what chemicals/molecules/chemical compounds are in the flavorings themselves?

Well, I suppose the only way to absolutely know what is in your liquid would be to start mixing your own. My friend and I are actually going to start doing exactly that very soon. In the mean time, I imagine it would be difficult getting liquid companies to release ingredient lists, simply because they wouldn't want people to copy their recipes and make their own for a lot less money. It always comes down to the almighty dollar, no?
