...Isn't about Discourse or Counter Views. It's just a Place for a Few to get their Hate On where they have Safety in Numbers.

Strange. For some reason I didnt get notification of posts in this thread, so I caught up today.

And the part of your message I quoted is my exact view of the condition of this country right now, and it applies to both sides. Society is always a pendulum, with swings to either side that eventually return to the center. Sadly, I think it's going to be a long time before differences of opinion can be discussed rationally, without the all-or-nothing mindset. I doubt I'll live to see it.

Yeah... The "Few" seem to be the ones who Mainly Drive the Headlines. Because Everything seems to be so Over Amplified in the Media.

When I go out and Talk with people regarding just about Anything, the Overwhelming sentiment from either R's or D's or I's is Disgust.

Disgust that things Aren't Getting Better.
Disgust that the System seems Broken.
Disgust that Politian's talk about what They Want. Verses what the People who they are Supposed to Represent Want.
Disgust for the Media because of such Overt Bias.
The List kinda just goes On and On.

When I was Younger, things seemed much more Polarized. But the Older I got, the More I Realized that sure, there are people on the Fringe of the Left and on the Right. But they are Far Outweighed by the Vast Majority in the Center who basically want the Same Things.

It sounds like you're talking about the mainstream media. I don't even consider it news. The MSM has narratives to adhere to, decided by deep pocketed multinational corporations, and that's that. Debate has disappeared. You'll never see it there. I knew it the year I saw a so-called debate on GMO crops on PBS. Two of the panelists were in favor, and the third was on the fence and got talked into favoring them. There was no opposition. It was staged. Then NPR started having "biotech moments" PSA's, and then an episode of Science Friday that was a two hour infomercial for Prozac. That was just before use of the internet became widespread, so for a while I really thought I was living in a matrix and would never get free of it.

I'm so grateful for what I call the "back channels" on the internet, which requires a definition, because you can get CNN and ABC, etc. on the net too. When someone says "uh, where'd you hear that, on the internet?" I tell them there are lots of unbiased news sources presented by serious journalists on the net, and thank God for that. If that ever dries up, we are all doomed.

But even there, I have yet to see any journalistic exploration of vaping as this great miracle of smoking cessation.

I watch PBS News Hour. All Sides gives it a C (center) rating based on Community Feedback 6,550 ratings AND Independent Research.

PBS NewsHour Media Bias Rating

Guess I should go check All Sides next cuz they may be the bad guys... and then another one to check that one... and another to check those... and... Full Stop.

Ummm, no. Don't need to.

The News Hours at least tries to present things Down the Middle. And for the Most part, on average, they do a Decent Job of it.

Not say'n that there Isn't a Slant here or there. But for the Most Part, they try to tell Both Sides of most stories.

I miss Shields on the the Friday segment of Shields and Brooks. Not so much because I agreed with his Viewpoints. For the Most Part I Didn't. LOL. But he was Unafraid to call out someone on his Side if they did something Stupid. Or give praise, although perhaps begrudgingly, if someone on the Other Side did something Good. He also really Liked working with Brooks. And the feelings were Mutual.

It was Good Pro n' Con Dialog.

Capehart is too much of a Company Man. And Brooks has kinda Caved do to Burnout with the direction Many in his Party have gone. Which is Off-the-Rails.

Would love to see that list.

You should post it here.
When it comes to our own ability to break the mainstream media's information monopoly, I honestly think it is each person's own journey to find the alternative sources. Your favored sources will depend on your own profile. Do you lean left or right? Is the science settled, or is science funded by multinational corporations a sloppy witch brew, or is science a continuous process of challenge, new evidence, re-proof, revised conclusions. Is it okay to have manufacturing in countries that use prison slave labor, where the inmates pray for deliverance to the same God we do? Is war ever defense, or is war always just the most violent form of politics? Does a constitutional republic accommodate authoritarian government in times of crisis, or is authoritarianism an invasive plant with deep roots that can never be eradicated?

There are enough honest, well created online news outlets, left, right and center, for everybody to find what they like, or even to make comparisons, which is what I do. I take in the left, right and center, but with my own foundation of what I believe constitutes freedom, fascism, collectivism, science, authoritarianism, history. Each of the sources I choose to visit regularly has to have some basic demonstrations of credibility, real interviews with real experts, and if a news digest, real links to the original source material. If it's all commentary, it's all wind.

It also has to start with a reliable search engine. Google is not going to lead you to any
real choices, IMO. It is mainstream media too.

Meanwhile...

I don't think this is the performance I attended in Dallas during that 1992 tour, because I don't remember Deep Ellum Live having a mosh pit like you see in this one, but I could be remembering wrong:

Lyrics:

Discrete warhead, sleeping below
The wind that passes is heard no more
Trust only movement, talk in split tongue
Don't be concerned with what's right and what's wrong

Lord is gracious to the chosen generation
Royal priesthood of a holy nation
See life's forces here in youth and bloom
But reason's finger is pointing at the tomb

Sex on the flag, give me respect or give me death
Sex on the flag, responsibility
Sex on the flag, you gotta have some fantasy
Sex on the flag, crack down and cry for me

Captive caption, indestructible cage
Silenced with fire, trembling with rage
Sacrifice beauty, finish your hand
I don't wanna be stuck without a spirit for the future
