Aren't you supposed to kill the alligator first before you try to wear alligator shoes? 
Do you ever stop and think about that first guy who stared at an alligator for a while and then thought, "You know, I bet that would make a fine shoe, indeed"?
Don't you love how smug people are when they get to correct you for mixing up crocodiles and alligators, and vice versa?
Is there a law that says you can kill smug people for correcting your terminology instead of helping you pull an angry alligator off of your leg?
