We all know every vaper has an opinion on what is the best beginners set up is. As a community we need to get some consensus on this to help the analog to digital converts. How about an ego style battery with a stardust type clearomizer?
The best advice I have for beginners is just buy something and get started.
Nobody is going to know what they want and need until they have some experience under their belt.

I have a standard recommendation, Ego Twist or Vision Spinners (x2), and Boge cartomizers. Less than $100 for a starter set up, that is flexible and can "grow" with them for a few weeks or months. At a minimum, it is a set up that let's them find a juice or juices to use. From there, I will inform, educate, and freely give my opinions if/when they have questions.

This approach has worked flawlessly with my brothers, and has both my daughter and her boyfriend considering switching.

I just started a new thread with just what you suggest, a complete kit for fifteen bucks. Right now in my invetory, I've got about 10 eGo batteries, some are 650's, some are 1100's, and some are twists. Right now, I'm vaping on an iTAste MPV and am waiting on the charger so I can try my new Vamo, and I ordered a couple of Bolts last night because they were 20 bucks each. But I still use my eGo batteries because they easily fit in a pocket. In spite of all the stuff I've already got, I've still got a barely controllable urge to buy a half dozen of these $15 kits!

Harm reduction first, fine tuning second. "Just get started" Looking back on how I started and where Im at now with my pv preferences are different.

I kind of like this summary I found on Smoketek.com:

NEWBIE Primer:

Buying and Using an Electronic Cigarette: A Primer

The first thing to know is that everyone is different.
Everyone has different reasons for smoking cigarettes.
Everyone gets different things from the smoking experience.
Everyone has different needs and wants.
And everyone has different tastes

The second thing to know is that there is no perfect electronic cigarette.
They all have pluses and minuses, depending on your needs and wants.
What one person considers a plus may be considered a minus by another.

The third thing you should know is that you will probably change your mind.
There is a very good chance you will stop caring how much it looks like a cigarette.
There is a very good chance you will stop caring if it tastes like your old brand of cigarette.
And of course, there is every chance that you may not change your mind as well.

The last thing you should know is that there is a learning curve.
This is not going to be as simple as picking up a cigarette and a lighter.
Parts will eventually die on you, so you'll need backups.
There are issues to overcome, and things to learn.
But in the end, it is well worth it to make the effort.

Have a great day!

I agree with the ego battery/clearo recommendation. But TWO batteries! And a couple of clearos. This is a decent enough basic setup that gives a good quality vape, and makes a good backup if you move on to something else later.

And that's a big if! For those of us who consider this a means to an end, not a hobby, that's good enough!

I would say get a ego or ego twist as battery and maybe a clearo...biggest advice is to not start on a blu or drugstore type ecig, they could turn someone off not knowing how much better PVs are. I too wasted $40 on a blu before "seeing the light"...I think this is a common beginner move but luckily I researched...but some people have one and done personalities.

yes yes and ...um no...altho i agree with most of you I believe the best advise for a beginner is to read alot and watch alot of vids and reviews THEN get your self a quality beginner kit with 2 battery's...and STAY AWAY FROM CHEAP GEAR FROM MALLS AND GAS STATIONS!!!

if your vaping to quit smoking you will need something that works. i recommend a eGo 650 starter with either the standard 2 piece atomizer/cartridge or a basic clearo like a v2....this will work very consistently...by doing this you will get a better picture of what vaping can be..and avoid the missed expectations....

altho I have never tried a "blu" they may be the exception but they are way to expensive for what they bring to the table ( better units for less money are out there)

....my 2 cents

Those would be great to have on hand in case you came across someone who was considering vaping and didn't know where to start!

If you live near an actual shop, go in and try what they have. However, remember that ordering online will in the end save you tons of money. I know the B&M stores need business too, but watch out for the ones that double or triple prices on the same things you can get online. Though, the local B&M has been extremely helpful in my starting as a vaper. Just remember to try different things, find something you like, and stick with it. Vaping can get to a very expensive (although, usually one-time) hobby.

i just DONT recommend the cig-a-likes ; i think most who vape and then go back to analogs can be blamed on cig-a-likes

exactly..

I saw a guy at church today and he has been seeing my FB posts and saw my twist/nova hanging from my lanyard and he asked " yeah man hows the vaping going?" then he said " my wife and I tried that and it didnt work for us"....after a few questions i learned they both got drug store disposables and they lasted about an hour, now his impression of vaping was that they are a gimmick I took him around the corner and told him "Hit this!" gave him my unit and he hit it like a pot pipe, ...I said whoa there cowboy...just draw it in your mouth slowly like a cigarette...mouth first then lungs....he did it right and took a long draw and i could hear my Nova cooking...then he blew out a CLOUD!!...and said "WOW MAN, thats delicious...that works where did you get THAT?! i gave him some info and there is a good chance he and his wife will revisit vaping as an alternate to smoking again
