My problem with just get something is that the retail outlets, gas stations, etc...sell something awful. The experience is ongoing disappointment, dead batteries, dead carts, inconsistent vapor, throat hit. If someone is asking me I point them to at least at least an ego and a tank...it is just so much more reliable than "just something". They will likely try something else too, but I want to point them in a direction that will be less frustrating....I think everyone goes through the others though--they see the look and feel of a cig and want to try it....but i see a lot of people who have given up. I did. I made it six months with a certain brand and the lighter fluid taste really got to me and I felt like some kind of junkie with my charger set up that could charge 5 batts at a time. At least with a twist or C you have some consistency and then realize that you may want to move up...

this..

I saw a guy at church today and he has been seeing my FB posts and saw my twist/nova hanging from my lanyard and he asked " yeah man hows the vaping going?" then he said " my wife and I tried that and it didnt work for us"....after a few questions i learned they both got drug store disposables and they lasted about an hour, now his impression of vaping was that they are a gimmick I took him around the corner and told him "Hit this!" gave him my unit and he hit it like a pot pipe, ...I said whoa there cowboy...just draw it in your mouth slowly like a cigarette...mouth first then lungs....he did it right and took a long draw and i could hear my Nova cooking...then he blew out a CLOUD!!...and said "WOW MAN, thats delicious...that works where did you get THAT?! i gave him some info and there is a good chance he and his wife will revisit vaping as an alternate to smoking again

I usually recommend an eGo setup with easy to use juice delivery devices like a Kanger T3 or Mini Vivi Nova. If it's here at ECF, I provide this link with images and links to two ECF-approved vendors and two e-juice vendors that offer sampler packs:

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/new-members-forum/369128-what-kit-start-2.html#post8306912

I also provide a link to the picture dictionary I made of commonly used juice delivery devices:

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/cartomizers/343294-proper-terminology-carto-tank-what-lol.html#post7562212

I advise against the cigalikes and explain why, but if they are dead set against trying the mid-sized eGo's, I then recommend Smokeless Image. At least their product line is somewhat expandable and it gets them started with vaping. I tell them filling their own juice devices is strongly preferred, but if they want to use the pre-filled cartos with their first order they can just to get started out.

It's also important to explain about vaping technique being different than smoking, and that there are no e-cig flavors that will taste like an analog (which is actually a good thing).

For me it's ego style (SI X2) for home, but cig-a-likes (volts) for out and about. And I use cartos almost exclusively. I tried many clearos, CE3s, nanos, stardust...none of those work for me. So most of the advice I see others giving newbies just does not seem right to me. I can't imagine shoving an ego slyle battery with some kind of tank or clearo in my pocket when I go to the store.

Mostly I would advise something simple to start...and yes good quality cig-style bats can get you started and get you off cigs...that's what worked for me.

i just DONT recommend the cig-a-likes ; i think most who vape and then go back to analogs can be blamed on cig-a-likes
I started on a eGo type variable voltage with stardust/vision clearomizers at different ohms. The learning curve is steep. After 2 month of futzing about I have a more clear idea of what will work for me.

I guess my advice is not to start cheep, start medium priced if you are so inclined.

I dont think its so much about which device... I think its more about having enough to ensure to can squash the craving for a smoke.
I started out with the standard ego-c starter kit. @ batteries, 5 atomizers, 5 cartridges... basically 2 whole egigs, with enough extra parts to ensure, I would have my nic fix no matter what...lol

I started with the automatic battery system. Graduated to a manual with in a few weeks both 808 style look a likes. Then moved on the blanks for my 808 styles. Not till I started reading here and wanting to experience more that I upgraded to an eGo and stardusts and mini novas. If I had had to start with an eGo style system I would not have been her I think.
The look a like style systems made the transition from smoker to vaper much easier for me.
I think making the choices easier for the mainstream people to understand and locate would be our best course of action.

We all know every vaper has an opinion on what is the best beginners set up is. As a community we need to get some consensus on this to help the analog to digital converts. How about an ego style battery with a stardust type clearomizer?

It seems like the best advice and same way I started is with an ego and spend the rest of the money on juices. Cheapest way to go and finding the right vp/pg/flavor combo is what really gets all of us on the right track and out of analogs, IMO.
