Ok thanks I will look up hot keys and find out which is the magnifyer key. this is my first experience using a laptop. I do have an external mouse plugged in cuz I hate that mousepad thingy.

Then it can't be the scroll. If you go to start/all programs/accessories/ ease of access, the magnifier is there. Turn it off. That's how I use laptops too. With a mouse. I'm not a laptop fan though.

That actually turned it on, but I was able to turn it off. I just goes really big sometimes, and I have to hit ctrl and - to get it back down to regular size. I must be hitting a hot key of some sort, but I don't know which one it is.
When it goes to big try hitting control 0 and it should go back to normal. If I were you I would type the kind of laptop and model and user manual on the internet search or on the manufacturer's page and download the manual for it if you don't have one.
BTW when that light comes on it's telling you that something just came on. If you had a manual that would tell you what that light represents. Without knowing the make and model it's hard to say because they're all different.

that's a good idea, didn't think of looking up the manual. ctrl 0 makes it too small, so I use ctrl ++ to make it fill the screen so I can see it better.
Can't you just hit the control key and scroll up and down to make the font bigger and smaller? As the night goes on. . . mine gets bigger and bigger. Just poppin in with my 3¢ (inflation) BTW, I'm not stalking you. I had this on my subscribed threads and saw a "Debadoo".
There are also several chrome extensions that let you right click and zoom.

hehehe but you could stalk me all you wanted miss rattytat! yeah, I do use that ctrl and mousy scroll button, or I'll do the ctrl and the + button, same thing. But something happens often that I'm typing, and suddenly the screen goes huge! I have to either scroll it back down or use ctrl and the minus button.
also the cursor will just jump to another location in mid type. Just screwy things going on with this puter. My nephew figures the way for him to learn about computers is just to do stuff and see what happens, then when it's bad he knows not to do that anymore. He'll mess with it til it pretty much won't work anymore, then get a new one. lol Not a huge deal really, I'm just so thrilled I have one so I can get online and talk to all my friends here. I nearly cried yesterday when it wouldn't boot up. So glad I stumbled upon a fix.

Now you see why I hate laptops. They don't cool right either. I have had at one time 6 older laptops and although they show a great signal and trouble shooting says there's nothing wrong they won't get internet with the onboard wireless. You have to use a usb wireless dongle to get wifi. Upon further investigation I found out there's around 32 gates that have to be open.
Yeah, but due to having very few outlets in this house, and limited space, a laptop is the only thing I can use whenever I like. My sil has her desktop on the one table type surface we have near a usable outlet, but she's sittin there most of the day. My nephew has his laptop in his room, and I'm usually in the living room. Just no place to put a desktop here. So before I got this up and running I wasn't online hardly at all. I was away from ECF for a long time, and I hated it. This one does great at picking up the wifi though.

oh wow.......that's great that he'll be moving just across the street!! I'm very lucky my son lives just across town, which is maybe 5-7 minutes.

mine is the alt/option key, though i never remember this and try every key around it first before i figure it out again...
