Intactivism? Really? We're worried about this? We have first world problems and too much time on our hands if we're concerned our kids johnsons don't have turtlenecks.

To me it just felt too much like arrogant hubris to cut off something that nature, our evolution as Homo Sapiens, decided needed to be there. We don't take out tonsils and appendices "just because," but only if they cause a problem.

That would only be true if you see no value in a tradition dating back 4 to 5 millenia proven to have medical health benefits. Really, unlike female circumcision, is it innocuous?

But we have showers and soap abundance available to us now and I got 40% of my nerve ending snipped off along with every other male who got butchered. So Sex would be 40% better GRRRRRRRRRR I get mad evertime I think about it!!!!!

We know what John would say

"Creme Tangerine and Montelimat
A Ginger Sling with a Pineapple Heart
A Coffee dessert--Yes you know its Good News
But you'll have to have them all Pulled Out
After the Savoy truffle"

Oh Wait... That was George Harrison.

Never Mind.

You are entitled to your opinion. Honestly the kid will never know. You can ask any male. They don't know.. unless it was a "hack" job.

Yes, my tonsils were taken out just because they may get infected. My parents thought it better. Again I only have a brief memory of it now. I just know some kid was in the hospital getting rabies shots... I was just glad at the time I wasn't him. Oh, I also got a cool model car to put together. I think a 57 chevy.. smelling the glue was cool too.

And probably 40% quicker for you too.

Thats another one If you made it threw that time with you tonsils intact later in life you are less prone to getting sick cause you still have the first line of defense intact. All of these needless removal of body parts has side affects its one thing if its necessary but its been proven over and over again Doctors are prone to fads to treatments driven buy insurance not necessarily the best option.

Lol

My 10 year old son knows more about li-on batteries, series/paralell,and basic electrical theory than some vapers here on ECF.
He's happy dad stopped smoking, and finds the mechanics of the devices interesting.
He doesn't touch them, just like he doesn't touch kitchen knives or hot pans.

Thanks to anti vaping adds on TV, we had to have a long discussion about e cigs.

I know, I know, those ads are there to protect......The children.
Same here with my 8 year old. He has no interest in actually messing with them, just likes to watch me build them and explain how they work. Just like my job. I work with coax, fiber optic, and copper cable and distribution systems, so I've shown him a little bit about how those work. He seems genuinely interested in electronics and whatnot. Gonna be a smart kid. Lol.

I had mine removed at 14 because they were so swollen I couldn't breathe. Lol. I was in the doc with tonsillitis every couple months until he finally told me they were going to cut them out. I was the first one they used the new laser equipment on. Lol

This is precisely why I forbade it for my son -- when that tradition started, there wasn't hot and cold running showers and soap as we have now, plus they lived in a desert; I imagine a grain of sand under *that* would be a very bad thing! :D I figured if my son ever wants that, he can handle it himself, with proper anesthesia -- they don't anesthetize newborns for that.

It's really an American thing, for the most part, I think probably going back to the "progressive" movement of the 1930s.

I'm happy I didn't grow up as an amazon.

[sarcasm]But, with the proper tradition, imagine how many women could have been saved from breast cancer premature deaths? All for their own good? [/sarcasm]

That was the case for me, at 17... when the antibiotics were gone, 2 days later the tonsils had swelled up again -- I looked like I had the mumps! So then they had to come out.

Really? Tonsils have value?

When I was a kid I got strep throat a lot.
The doctor told me next time they will remove my tonsils.

I never got strep throat again.
And I still have my tonsils.

Maybe @Kent C would chime in, he provided me in the past with some very interesting links about that period. On short there was anti-smoking, anti-alcohol, preventive surgery, genetic selection, all sort of scary things in order to create low cost, low maintenance wage slaves. A must read.

I went about two years dealing with it before I let em do it. When it got to the point I couldn't swallow soup, I reluctantly agreed. Lol
