Hubbie thought it would be funny to see me shoot the 12 gauge with some pretty powerful ammo. He also video taped it so he could laugh again later. Undoubtedly the guy shooting next to us got a kick out of it too.

I spent 18 months on my Ship's Self Defense Force. Basically, shipboard security. As a part of SSDF, we had to be trained and proficient in the Beretta M9, Mossberg 12ga pump, and M14. My second deployment was one of the first deployments fleet wide where women were fully integrated into the crew and deployed with men. And with that, they were granted the same requirements as the guys, which included temporary duty on SSDF. One of the women that checked in with us was tiny. 5ft tall, less than 100 pounds. We had to do our firearm certifications while underway in this case. We lined up on the aft aircraft elevator ready to fire each of the three weapons. Like I said, we were underway. 30 knots of wind blowing at our backs while firing into the ship's wake, while rolling and pitching in not so smooth (but not really rough) seas. As we hadnt been out long, no one had a keen sense of balance yet. Both the 9mm and M14 are fired from the shoulder, sitting position, kneeling position, and prone. The 12ga is fired from the shoulder, then hip strong side (right side if youre right handed), then hip weak side (left side if right handed), all done standing. She fires the 9mm with no problems. Fires the M14 and though it knocked her around pretty good, still didnt do bad while standing and kneeling. When it came time to shoot from sitting, she literally rolls backwards from the recoil. By the time she does it a second time, one of the guys had to brace her shoulders so she could fire safely. So on to the 12ga. She tucks the shotgun tight into her shoulder, but couldnt comfortably reach the foregrip. She squeezes the trigger and it rocks her back a step. Each round, she has to take a step forward to reset on the firing line. But she did pretty well. Then came time to shoot from the hip. She pulls it in close to her side and uses her elbow to squeeze it to her waist, just like we were all taught. Pulls the tigger, and the shotgun goes rocketing out of her grip and about 10ft behind the entire firing line. It nearly broke her tigger finger in the process. It was funny as heck looking back on it, but it scared the crap out of all of us at the time. They let her still stay on SSDF, she was just never allowed to carry a shotgun.
By the way, if it werent for her being a good friend later in the deployment, I wouldve been in more trouble than I could handle, and probably not be married.
Translation ” she was hot”
Yes, she was, and still is hot. Even Mrs E agrees. Ouch. Thankfully, I dont have any embarassing gun stories of my own doing. Yet.Ok, here is my embarrassing shotgun story. My buddy bought a pistol grip mossberg 12 gauge. He loads it will ” bird shot” and hands it to me. I did not have a good grip on the forend and the thing goes flying. I held on with my trigger hand but it about pulled my shoulder out the socket. We go look at the box of ammo and it was 3 inch turkey mags not ” bird shot”!
HA! Mrs E FREAKED OUT the first time I put a Daisy Red Rider in my kids' hands. I mean FREAKED. Then I got the little 15 shot hand held bb gun to teach Kat how to shoot and gun safety before I bought the real thing.... I dont know how I stayed off of the couch that night.Gun story. My cousin was an MP. He has so many guns its unreal...and BIG BIG Guns too. Anyhow, they live out in the middle of nowhere & he has a shooting range. During a family reunion a bunch went out to shoot. While we are sitting on the deck we hear monster gun shots repeatedly. (Firing rounds?). When they all came back they asked who was shooting the rounds, it was my daughter!!!!! Something about an m-something gun. She loved it and went back for more! My cousin was amazed she had never shot a gun before and said she could be a natural. She is my little dare devil.

Trust me, I would too.I'll take embarrassing gun story over wife not letting have guns every day.![]()
the .22 I could deal with. Im not so sure I would trust Kat (also 9) with a bow. She would probably let go of the bow instead of the string...My daughter is 9. She has a .22 single shot rifle and a compound bow. She loves it.
