Thxs Drew! must have missed that option when I pressed the order button, the price was not dented and scratched, my bank account was ;-)

Hey Emonty,
It sounds as though you may have recieved one of the scratch and dent models...I am currently trying to get ahold of Tim in the UK and see for sure.
Im sorry you are having a problem and will do all I can to help you from my end. Thanks

Thanks. I just wanted to be sure any mini usb would work before I went out and bought one. My Droid uses a micro usb to charge, but not all micro usb cables will charge it. For some reason it needs to be a micro usb data cable instead of the more common micro usb phone charging cables. So I just wanted to make sure I wouldn't have the same issue with my Darwin.
Darwin is mini USB (think that is what you meant anyway). Many charge from Laptops but I personally prefer not to do that. I do not know the exact specifications of the charging power draw relative to a laptop's USB power output capacity. In my year and a half of vaping (and related research), I have read many tech types post using PTs on a laptop is not a great idea as is it can be risky for the laptop. However, I think these posts were more meant for non-charging PTs (with direct power to atty - firing that type of device could possibly put a bigger drain than just steady charging). Darwin is an actual PT as the power Passes Thru the battery. So, when you are using PT style, you are actually activating off the battery and power coming from the charging source is only charging the battery. This is why if you vape to cut-off you need to let it charge for 10-20 minutes before use (as immediate heavy use can end up vaping right back down to cut-off).

Look at your charge cord "output". The ones that come with Darwin are 5v 800 mah (at least the original ones with the green light are - not sure about the ones with red light). I have one not from Evolv that is 1A (1000mah) and it charges Darwin a bit faster. I have seen car chargers with oputput range from 500 mah to 2A but I am not sure about the 2A ones for Darwin. I would think they might be fine (and faster) but if you plan to use 2A - you might shoot Evolv an email first to verify that it will be safe.

Most PC motherboards by default only want to put out 100 mA (or 1 tenth of an ampere) on USB. Phones (or other smart things) often use the data lines to communicate with the PC/Laptop/charger, and are saying "Hey, give me more current. I can take it!". They can then output approximately 500 mA. I'm not familiar with your phone, but it sounds like it won't charge until it establishes that there is a higher power available. Hrm, there must be a 12-step program joke, in there somewhere! The USB 3.0 spec calls for as much as 1.8 amps to be requested!

I know that Blackberries will request the higher current. These things with smarts will (usually) try to avoid killing each other. Most USB chargers make their advertised maximum to really mean "as much as, if it can be used, or is requested". I have a 2A wall charger that I routinely use on Darwin all the time. I have used it for a long time on my phone, I notice that it charges up faster.

I think where people get in trouble, is trying to use a simple PT that has no battery. Look at the display on Darwin, we are often drawing in the vicinity of 2 amps. A vehicle cigarette lighter/USB charger? Many of these put out more current. Many/most PVs are just a battery, a switch and a heating element, not much smarts going on there.

If you connect a switch and a heating element to your laptop and try to suck 2 amps out of it, it may try. It may also let the magic smoke out of your laptop/PC.

I tend to keep wall chargers around for charging all my USB devices. If there is mis-communication, I'd rather blow up a $2 wall charger than any laptop/PC that I own.

Ok Mojurepublic got back to me and agreed to send me another unit that is more suitable, they will get back to me tomorrow to check as they are pretty low on stock until next week. Well I can say that it is very much appreciated and it proves the quality of the after sales of the Darwin. Until I have received a new unit, I am going to enjoy this one as I cannot do without anymore, I will not return this one until I have the other one in my hand ;-)

thxs Drew you got me hooked!

Just a quicky on the charging issue. I broke my supplied Darwin charger very early on, and contacted evolv directly. The Darwin manages power internally, therefore any mini USB charger regardless of the mah or voltage will be fine. The Darwin will only take what it can handle power wise, and using different rated chargers will change your charging time, but will in now way harm the unit. So in closing, any mini USB cable is safe, as per Brandon at Evolv!

Good news and bad news... The bad news is, I used it all day today and just am not in love with... The good news is that it vapes amazing and that's truthly all that matters. Other good new is that if someone wants a Darwin, I will most likely sell it to you, as you know she is only a day old, and mint. If you you want to contact me, feel free. I am waay more comfortable with my tubes...

LOL...Im guessing about the unit but, Tim did get some that were marked down for defects in the finish, and he probably made a mistake and sent you one of those. I have to say that I have been dealing with Tim for quite a while now and he has always been forthcoming and honest...
He is a super reasonable guy and other than suffering from being VERY busy (hes got a newborn baby), he has always stood up to his obligations to me. Its really why he is handling The Darwin. We had MANY inquiries from Europe and the UK and we chose Tim because of his track record with us and other customers and distributors....Im pretty confident he will make you smile, and if he dosent please let me know what I can do to help....Thanks

Thank you Drew, I trust you and Tim, he replied back already (http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/nhaler/151096-darwin-evolv-849.html#post4122049), so I am confident all will work out, again appreciated!

When it comes to things you stick in and out of mouth hundreds of times a day....it's good to have a little play..... (Can't wait to see what Kat does with that one).

Tit for tat?

Credo! LOL! I'm going to leave that one to Ski.

I am going to seriously agree with you and say that we all need to be like the palm tree, or the weeping willow. Bending allows us not to break.

Kit for Kat~

You said rubbing!!!!!

Almost correct ;)

If it is not for you, then it is not for you. However, if you do like the way it vapes you might consider using it for a week or so and see if your opinion changes. The form facort certainly IS different and (for some) can take a bit of getting used to. A week (or 2 or 3) will have no impact on its resale value. As you post you are a dedicated tank user, I can see pocketability concerns but then again, tubes with tanks are not exactly pocketable either. Darwin is by far the most pocketable HV device on the market - bar none. When I don't want to bother topping off cartos, I thro the Ego mega Dual Coil Carto on Darwin with the 1" 510 to 510 extender - closes and very pocketable with 4 ml of juice on board. The EMDCC has the best flavor, by far IMHO, for large capacity cartos and works great on Darwin.

But, there is no doubt that some people just prefer the tube form factor. I am not one of them and I never need to worry about anyone asking me "Is that a tube mod in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?"

At least you tried it, I am always surprised when people judge devices (PVs, phones, anything) that they have never even tried. No device is for everyone and having all the choices we have, with many more to look forward too as vaping evolves, gives us all opportunities to try and find whatever works best for each of us. As I said, as long as you have it and like the vape - consider using it for another week or two and see then. If still not for you - you have lost nothing. Obviously there are many of us that love it.

Happy weekend all - I'm off to Vegas Vapefest! :vapor:

I’ve been working on step 4a ---

Picked up a Darwin in the classies a couple weeks ago and decided it’s time to chime in here.

I am very happy with my decision.

I’m not super jazzed about high voltage or super low resistance. I’ve been pretty pleased with my 3.7 volt box feeder with RR atty’s or LR cartos. But, I just had to learn what all the fuss was about. The Darwin and VW (variable power) looked perfect for me – I kind of fell for the VW months ago….but was a bit unsure. Then I saw one in person. (thanks to Katdarling)
Oh, I’ve played with different atty’s and a carto or two & found a bunch of atty’s that still had some life in them---and even one that showed “Danger” (so happy to have that feature) --- but mostly I’ve just been vaping away --- and doing a bit of work on step 4a!

We all know that "Vapin is subjective". We all find our "happy place" eventually, and if the Darwin is not your happy place, at least you have had some first hand exposure to it. I hope you eventually find your happy place too. My "happy place" includes ease of use, long battery life, variable wattage, and portability.
I am sure you will easily be able to move your Darwin in the classy's....Good luck on finding your happy place...

tearose50, welcome to the club!

Chief, well if it's not for you it's not for you, nobody can fault you for that. You gave it a shot. I want to second the advice to keep with it for at least a few more days, it just might grow on you, and if not you should still be able to sell/trade it for nearly new price with no problems
