My Darwin came back today and is improved in several ways compared to when it was sent in:
- Swing arm looks better and feels better. Much more distinct detents in Off, 90, 135 and 180 degree positions. Also goes to Off more firmly parallel to the body.
- Due to improved 510 connection did not come back with the shorty extension. That's easy to "fix" but I kind of miss it.
- Power pot/wheel feels firmer, has more distinct detent in center position, which now dials 8.5 watts (vs 8.4).
- USB connector is much more firmly in place and no longer wiggles.
- Supposedly a Rev. 14 board inside (which can't be seen of course). Not 100% sure if any components were upgraded. Firmware tweak appears to have eliminated the 6-second "wink" indicating the self-check, but I've been told it still checks.
- The screen is different. I'm not sure if they are planning on using this screen down the road so I won't say much other than it looks better when back lit.
The sum total of some these (individually) relatively minor tweaks definitely gives the Darwin an even more solid, slightly more "upscale" overall feel. Prior to this, while it performed well (prior to the current
sense issue) I would have called its feel "utilitarian". Now I'd say it feels more like a precision
vaping tool. I'm not sure if that even makes sense, but there it is.
Brandon has been a pleasure to correspond with. He has answered my MANY questions in detail and kept me informed of status throughout. Kudos to him!
I know many have had great long term experiences with theirs but just to be safe (it did just come back from a repair, after all) I'm going to live with mine a bit longer to make sure this impression lasts before "officially" reviewing (or songwriting, for that matter

).
In the meantime I'm considering names. Which is better: Emma, Anne, Henrietta or Elizabeth?
