Itrainer, I only use Boge 3 ohm cartos anymore on mine. When I first got it, I spent more time around 9.5 watts. Depending on juice, I now vape from the 'default detent' of 8.7 down to about 7 watts or so.

YMMV, saw a guy in a thread recently complaining that Darwin with it's "only" 12.7 watts wasn't acceptable for him.

Not many juices taste good on a single coil past 11 watts - there are some out there, but most seem to have ingredients that don't like that much heat. Single coil cartos also don't hold up well after 10 watts, and even then you can't really chain vape off if them as they need to stay extremely wet.

12.7 watts not being high enough would most likely be someone who likes to run dual coils very warm.

The only juices I've had good experienced with on a single coil with an atty over 11 watts are juices like BWB malty, ecopure, or ultrapure. Those mainly use nic, VG/pg and ethyl maltol, so there isn't a lot of other flavoring to break down.

Sometimes I'd go to 11. But generally I'd go at 8 to 10. 11w is reserved for those stressful days. Lol. So ten should be good enough. Any higher and I usually get burning. Ymmv

Crispysaturn, It is a regular 510-510 adapter, but since you are using it all the time, I wouldn't scrimp and get a cheapy.

My first Darwin (about 9 months old) did not have one on it, but I put one on immediately. I knew that un/screwing atty/cartos directly on the brass threads would make me unhappy if I someday got it cross-threaded (brass is soft). I eventually wore the threads out in the first 510-510, everything I put on it was wobbly, it was an easy replacement.

There was a later manufacturing run of Darwins (I read about it on here) that included a 510-510 pre-installed. They were described as "thread-locked". I don't know exactly what that means, I know that there are three differing strengths of Loc-tite. The strongest of that requires heating by a torch to remove, I doubt (hope!) that wasn't ever used. The last run did not have any on them, I got two more, just bought 510-510 from Drew at the same time and put them on first thing.

Please *do not* just put a pair of vice grips on there and crank it down until it won't turn any more! Overtightened, a 510-510 will dead short out. Darwin will shut down to protect itself, but it won't vape.

The official method is to screw it on finger-tight. Occasionally I change cartos in the dark, and didn't want to be removing the 510-510 without knowing it. My unapproved, "don't try it" method is to make sure the threads are all clean and swabbed out with alcohol and Q-tips and let it dry completely. I very gently screw the 510-510 down until it just touches. I then wrap it with a towel, and with some curved jaw pliers turn it JUST ONE EIGHTH OF A TURN. The idea is to have it on there a little big tighter than my fingers can turn it, so that I am always unscrewing the atty/carto by hand. Not recommended. Don't do it. In fact, I made all that up. Yeah, that's it...

I have a question for the Darwin owners. As a general rule what watts do you vape at? I'm asking this as I know the Kick will go to 10 watts and I just trying to get a feel if this is enough for most of the vapers. I don't use dual coils.

I use alot of CE2 stuff...those for me are best kept well under 6 watts.
For the dual coil CE2 I like between 6 and 8 watts.

For vertical coil dual coil cartos...I find from 8 to 10 watts prime.
For vertical coil single coil cartos...I usually prefer from 7 to 10 watts, and sometimes crank up to 11 or more for brief sessions on some flavors.

For regular horizontal coil atties (801/302 are my personal faves) I'm all over the map! I rarely ever pass 10 watts though unless they've gotten really old and gummed up and it's time to chuck them (or attempt a cleaning) anyway.

I do vape all PG 24m nic usually...so that might be one reason I tend to like it a bit on the cool side for many liquids. I've found that when I'm using higher VG or lower nic mixes I do like it a little hotter.

Yes I saw that. That is not the whole story either. The guy was yelling "god is great" in arabic and passengers detained him. They slapped the zip ties on him and that is why the flight returned to the airport. It was not for the use of a e-cig, but alas we have news media that only tell part of the story. Oh well. Now if he was sitting near me I could have taught him how to master the art of stealth vaping and all would be good.

I find that 10.5 watts is perfect for Boge 3.0 cartos.
