Buying my first mod was very stressful lol, being in Canada where we are limited in selection made it that much worse! We overpay for things here because of limited competition, and usually have to buy used and no warranty when it comes to elite mods like the Darwin. Makes the decision to purchase mods difficult, because on one hand they're rare and fantastic, but on the other you always run the risk of buying a piece of crap lol.

So to answer your question, im not sure that it means that much to me really, but I'm sure glad I got this one right! I'm not jealous of any other piece of gear out there right now, because with the right settings and attachments, I feel like I can emulate almost any other mod with the Darwin.

Yea!!! You got one. So glad for you!!

I caught them in stock, ordered on Sunday, it shipped on Monday, and made it from NJ to MO by 7am today (Wednesday). Good fit and finish, and best I ever vaped (obviously, since I am new). The short threads in the brass make me nervous (I ordered a 510-510 adapter, as per all of your advice). I can see that it would take a significantly larger initial chunk of brass to have more threads after machining it down.

I come from a farm background, and my first thought was to put some Loc-tite on the adapter/brass junction, but as long as I leave the adapter screwed in, shouldn't have a problem. Why does a newbie get a Darwin? I don't have time for this to be be a major hobby on twiddling, I just want it to work. I am the kind of guy who could obsess over all the variations, but I just want it to be consistent. I can make it a minor hobby, however........

I am an accidental quitter, I wanted to save money, and be able to vape inside, and still smoke. After a few weeks, I realized that I can quit smoking. I read the last 300 pages of this thread, I feel like I know you all!

Thanks to Drew/Nhaler for making this available, and thanks to all of you for your great info!

Welcome, Nano. Your rationale for quitting and your decision to head straight to the Darwin fairly screams, HE'S A GENIUS!

Vaping inside is like the second bestest reason to give up analogs (smelling tons better is the first). I know it's supposed to be about the health thing but, let's be real, is it's healthy the best advertisement for anything? It isn't for me.

Happy vapin'! :vapor:

I got my Darwin today & am enjoying it very much. But, one oddity! I'm sitting in a darkened room watching TV vap'n my brains out & set the Darwin down. Then I notice that the digital display is blinking. There is a second of light increase & then it repeats every 5 seconds. Is this normal? Anyone else notice this?

its a shame they cant keep them in stock...ive had 2 people that would have gotten darwins go and get a provari and 1 get an infinity because they couldnt wait for the darwin...i guess i was lucky the day i ordered mine...

Yea, I really thought that it would stay in stock for at least a couple of days so that I could make my decision but I have made it and will hold out until they are available. It is hard though.

Yes, SLH....KD is right, it's completely normal on the new version. The board performs a "self-check" every 5-6 seconds to assure that no bad carto/atty or electrical condition exists. It is the Darwin making sure it is healthy and the light does flash quickly. Wish mine had that feature. Might be time to add another....

I had read about this, way back in this thread. I also saw someone asking once/somewhere, is there a possibility of firmware updates on this? The mini-USB is only overtly being used for power, but there's no reason the data lines can't have been connected as well, for 'future use'.

I used to tinker with imbedded systems OS, does anyone know what kind of hardware smarts these have? A Linux variant would be a logical choice on the OS, there are lots of teeny kernels for stuff like this.

Loc-tite is unnecessary; hand snug the 510 to 510 and leave it there and you should be fine.

Thanks for the info. When I initially tighted first atty into it, it was hard to hold the adapter from unscrewing when I changed it. I know Loc-tite probably would not be a good idea, it was just a reflex thought! The red Loc-tite is pretty permanent, require heating (like a torch) to get it loose. That probably would be bad on many other parts.

I know that I have so much to learn about these, and I do not have buckets of attys to try like you all. I am taking my time, learning how my juices change flavors with the differing wattage. Fun stuff, and much easier to replicate.

Have fun nano...I think it was smart to start out with the best device vs wasting money and time for months and months(like I did) with stopgap vaping solutions that ultimately didn't satisfy.

Congratulations and welcome Holmes! (Love the handle, btw)

Congrats, Sheer. I'm normally not the answer-giver, but yes, it's normal. It's a Darwin self-check. (Right?)

I'm sorry you two but I'm gonna have to get into tech speak a bit to explain why this happens:

The intermittent light display is part of the ceremonial Pixie Dance of Joy. Brandon or Drew, please confirm.

There is no need to "tight" an atty to the 510 to 510 adapter. This is why you had to "hold the adapter from unscrewing..." There seems to be confusion about this. When I went to my first vape meet, I offered my Darwin to someone to try. When he went to attach his carto, he tried to tighten to the point of raising his elbow upwards to get better leverage. I had to abruptly stop him.

Attys and cartos should only be finger-tip threaded until they stop turning (soft-stop). Any tighter and you can actually risk a possibility of creating a short. The center post on the bottom of the atty/carto is the positive terminal and the threads are the negative. The connection is not improved by tightening any past where the center post of the atty/carto touches the center post of the device/adapter connection. You only need to thread enough to make the connection. Sometimes I finger turn to soft-stop and even back off a quarter turn.

You can "snug" the 510 to 510 adapter to the device (meaning perhaps another 1/4 turn beyond finger-tip turn soft stop) so it will not move when you remove the atty. But, for your own sake, only turn your attys/cartos with your fingertips until it stops turning. Anything more is completely unnecessary and risks other potential problems. This is not only for Darwin - it is for ALL atty/carto (and/or adapter) connections on ALL devices.

Happy :vapor:

If you haven't already-go back to the site, click the "notify me" link and proceed. That way you'll know when the unit goes up for sale again. Don't give up-I KNOW that you'll love the Darwin once you get one. BTW, keep your eyes posted for one in the classsies...
