Damn, the only time I've ever been hassled about my XD .45 was from a probie cop who must have been sick the day candidates were taught about NC's concealed handgun licenses and what is considered "concealed" or "open view" in a motor vehicle as defined by the United States Supreme Court.
His trainer quickly squared him away, thanked me for my service and they left without issuing a ticket about the plates on my car - they were German plates and I had been back in the U.S. all of about 24 hours.
Completely legal. It's a little thing, but when I know the local, state, and federal firearms laws better than the local troopers then they need to go get more training.
This is yet another reason why all "State Trooper" organizations should be abolished and replaced with either State Police or Sheriff Deputies if there are no State Police.

Yesterday, I had a bit of a scare. While vaping, my Darwin got into a state that I've never seen discussed. When pressing the button, the Evolv logo on the LCD display would change to an icon of a cigarette with a flashing circle/line through it. At the same time, the battery level icon indicated no charge (empty), even when not pressing the button. As you might guess, it simply would not fire the connected atty at all.
Thinking that something was wrong with the atty, I swapped it (a few times), but didn't change the situation. I was terrified that I had a dead D'win already (
). Then, in a flash of brilliance, I removed one of the 510-510 extenders I'd attached to give the connector enough length to work with my eGO-T atties. Immediately, the D'win was happy. I proceeded to chain-vape until midnight or so in celebration.
I haven't put it on a meter yet, but I suspect that the extender shorted out somehow (they're supposed to be sealed, but maybe it got juiced or something). The good thing is that they're cheap enough that if it really is shorted out, I can just toss it. No biggie.
But the big realisation came before I found the problem - here I am with a (presumed) dead Darwin - what do I have for a backup? I've got a few eGO batteries and some 510-T LR atties, so I could get by while I waited for repair/replacement, but I wasn't really looking forward to that. The Darwin has absolutely spoiled me - I love being able to tweak the heat for whatever juice I'm running. Also, I've got into dripping (flavour and vapour quantity is awesome), and it's really handy that the D'win will hold the atty upright to drip into.
With all this in mind, while driving to work this morning, it struck me - the best backup for a Darwin is simple - another Darwin! "Why have just one when you can have two at twice the price?" (I don't remember the source, but it fit perfectly). So, I just ordered my "backup" Darwin.
Now I'm in USPS-stalking mode. Again.

The Darwin has newer feature that wont allow you to cause a direct short to the board or electrnics. The Stop Symbol with a cigarette in the middle is all it will do. You can direct short across the connector and push the button and it will just flash that symbol for a few seconds and them=n turn back on
Just remove teh atty, carto or adpater tyhat is causing the issue. I had the same problem once with stacked 510 extenders...I am pretty sure that they were holding liquid between them some how.

Another update. Decided to try a carto on my Darwin this mornin for the first time.
2.5ohm carto. Filled with gorilla's juice (diggin this btw) left the watts at 8.4 that I have been usin on the atties. Baam! The same perfect throat hit.
Point I am making is the ease,versatility and consistency of this pv is just something else.

I am going to have to try gorilla in a carto again. I used some when I first bought the triple coils and it wouldn't work but I really want to have an alternative way to use my favorite juice ever without having to drip
Very true, Drew! With my new version Darwin, when the adapter shorted it it came back to life soon after I took off the adapter. Took me a few minutes of "oh my....." before I calmly assessed it must be the adapter. But, I gotta say, even though it came back to life...it scared me! I really enjoy some of my other PV's, but they are temporary distractions and I always go back to the Darwin...just nothing like it

I've seen the XD (aka HS95 later the HS2000 made in Croatia) used in combat in the Balkans. It held up pretty damn well even though it was still in the prototype stage during the wars...a lot better than the stupid Beretta 92F I was saddled with back then.
Once I saw it was on the market, I waited for the .45 version and bought it.
When I go home on leave I'm buying my wish list: a Steyer Scout Rifle, one of the newer piston AR-15s in 5.56/.223, a Ruger Mini-14 for Dad out on the farm, an XD in 9mm, and a suppressed .22 (legal for me in NC) just for shiggles.
Also thinking about a threaded barrel mod for the XD 9mm to fit a supressor on it as well. You know, for better hearing safety.

Drew, I posted about a month ago about 510 extender problems. Both of mine stopped working very soon after starting to use them. (Both were from other vendors, not Nhaler, and both were the longer version extenders.)
Two things: firstly, I was told that using the longer 510 extenders was the problem. The ones that you have and the one that is threadlocked onto the new version D'wins are the short ones, which is preferable. Secondly, in your estimation then, is it a bad idea to stack 2 short ones on the Darwin?
I stack them all the time , but just have to watch and make sure they dont fill up with liquid...It dosent happen so much with the sealed adapters though.

I also stack 2 sealed ones and they are working fine. I do watch for juice in the last one (before the attie) and give it a wipe inside if there is any juice starting to appear on the side of it. Only happened once...my dripping technique is improving!
Mind you....this is only day 3 with the Darwin!..lolol
