I am a huge fan of IRC, it is a great place to get answers in real time. It is much more interactive than a forum, and is a group discussion. I don't really care about the name, anyone coming in from this forum will not necessarily know about the existence of other channels. Something standardized is best. This thread is so long, it would be nice to have a side-channel just for all the inside jokes going on here. Newbies who honestly want to learn about Darwin may not find a second channel helpful.
However, there are about 80 users on the ECF IRC server right now (late night in USA, midweek), and there are plenty of non-ECF channels. Trivia, politics, Mac, Linux are all there. I am all for standardization, but there are plenty of people playing around on their own channels, many not vape-related at all.
There are hundreds/thousands or IRC servers to play on, but a good bot is really needed. A channel can get flooded with attacks, virii and other unpleasant things. Nothing sucks more than to lose control of your favorite channel!
EDIT:
A lot of info gets repeated in this thread over and over for new people. On IRC it is equally easy to just paste a link to the research monkey thread, instead of feeling like anyone has to type that same stuff live.
