Well, I am "officially" going to be a Darwinian again, just placed my order. I must confess that I was a member previously back in June but left the club (sold it), not due to any issues with the device but thought there might be another device out there that would be a better fit for a backup mod or a mod I can use for when I travel or just when I have to run a lot of errands but I was WRONG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Here is my experience, FWIW to those curious who haven't had the pleasure of using or owning a Darwin or who are unsure\skeptical about a Darwin.
I have always had a ProVari since December but I was wanting a device as a backup and possibly as a device to use when I either travel or when I am out of the house for a couple of hours as I don't prefer taking the Vari out with me as there just isn't an easy way to carry it or at least I haven't found out an easy way to do so and so after trying other mods I got a Darwin. I enjoyed the Darwin very much, very consistent, easy to use and although some don't like the looks (at first I wasn't sure about it either) but after using it, it was unique, not like the other tube mods and I liked it and the techie feeling, it was comfortable to use and when setting it down it didn't move, at all and this was really important especially while driving instead of trying to keep the tube from rolling around or keep it upright. I like the idea of not having to fool with batteries and I could just plug it up each night and I was good to go. It worked fine with my tanks back then and I just had to make sure not to push it down past the adapter. My only small gripes were the button grew some kind of green stuff, but came to find out that is normal for brass as well as sometimes I would adjust the wattage since the wheel was sensitive but again those were the only gripes I could come up with, which aren't bad.
However, I just thought maybe the grass was greener on the other side of the mod world and was hoping maybe there was a smaller mod out there that I could use. My issue is that I have to have a variable voltage device as 3.7 volts just doesn't do it for me, even with the lowest of low resistance attys or cartos so I sold my Darwin and started trying other devices. But soon I started realizing there wasn't many devices out there that were small and variable voltage devices that even came close to the same functionality and technology of the Vari or the Darwin. It seemed like the only other devices that were VV were either the same shape as a ProVari (tube mod) or they were box shaped and while I tried many devices since I sold my Darwin, nothing was working for me and my needs when traveling or when I was just out of the house. I then tried the mechanical mods and figured with new innovations like the Kick, that I would then finally have a small device that I could have as a die hard backup but more importantly use when I travel or when I am out of the house BUT being the Kick is 15mm in size, this would make the device still have to be at least an 18500 battery size which wouldn't be that much smaller than my ProVari.
So then the question became what size or type of device would I want to use while I travel as well as at least have the VV feature? Then I started reading all the new improvements Evolv started making to the Darwin and came to realize that the Darwin is all I really need since I already have a VV tube mod and even with the upcoming release of a popular box mod being VV, it just seems that the Kick and any other of the current and upcoming devices just can't match the technology that goes into the Darwin, so I come to realize that with a ProVari and a Darwin that I am pretty much set.
I am also going to get a G-Tank-US and with seeing Emonty's pics of The Line, hopefully there shouldn't be any issues with closing the arm (as they seem close in size) but even if there are, like everyone says, hardly any battery is used to power the LCD screen. The only other possibility is when the batteries need to be changed but for the convenience of not having to buy and charge separate batteries anymore, that the $25 charge is well worth it. At first I wasn't convinced but after seeing how Evolv has taken care of their customers and how quick they are to respond, I have no more worries about this.
Again these are just my opinions and experiences and I am no expert by far and have only been in the vaping game since July 2010 but I honestly don't know of what other functionality that can be used that can go into a device that isn't covered with either the ProVari or the Darwin. I know there are juice feeders and auto-dripping but I use carto tanks and eventually a rebuild-able atty with a tank so FOR ME, I logically can't think of anything else I would need which is both difficult and hard for me to say as I love trying out new devices and such but I do need to face reality and just start keeping with what works and limit myself to only trying new things if they truly do offer something new.
Anyway, sorry for the long post and I am sure a lot of it didn't make much sense but hopefully there are some bits and pieces that make sense and I am just happy to once again be a Darwinianand hope that this helps someone that is undecided or at least curious about this great device.

I still like my ProVari and like you said we all need a back up, I am thinking I still want to explore the GG systems. Time will tell I guess, You could have a Darwin for your Darwin back up right?
@Ed - Great post. I haven't been vaping for long and the Darwin is my first mod. I am always looking at other mods, not because I'm not happy with the Darwin, but because I want all the shiny new toys. I am like you, though. I want to settle on what works and see the financial benefit from vaping, so I really enjoy reading posts from people who have used a lot of the stuff out there and see what they settled on.
@Sax - I am hoping to get a backup Darwin soon, then I can just rotate them daily. I had a small problem with mine (juice getting inside the unit). It came back to life on it's own after about 24 hours of drying out, but it was scary to think of being without it. Now I use a drip shield so I'm keeping the unit nice and dry, but I still need backup.

Rob I sense another subject for my beloved theme night here!!! Maybe have the Ladies do the Robert Palmer little black dresses with DEVO hats. That would make the man cave come alive. Of course that would morf into the blue tarp coming out and we would need to be sure all those little Lego block were promptly removed from the scene! I hate stepping on those damned lego blocks!!!!!

You know...i started so many years ago on a Ruyan ECigar...then a little standard ecig (thin nalog look alike)
Then i jumped to my first mod (and i believe one of the first mods in general), a Trog Screwdriver (1st black one in the US if I remember right)...which did me well for a long time (including shipping it back to the UK for fixing once)...then i moved to the Carlos Juicebox (including replacement of a burnt out Carlos atomizer...which was my fault i believe), then a Wetbox, the an Ego when it came out...then some tank stuff for the Ego...then an epipesmod.com wooden pipe, and a Mjolnir....now to the Darwin
there were some others along the way and plenty of accessories...but that was the basic personal journey...other than the Ruyan and the analog lookalike...i still vape all of them from time to time based on what i am feeling...
one of my worries is that the Darwin will make me forget the others....the epipemod stuff just "feels" right...as i am a Pipe smoker as well as a vaper... so i doubt i ever will not long to hold the pipe mods.
im still thinking of a GG at some point will get purchased...they are just too pretty...I really always wanted a GG Superslim with a feed system...but i have a feeling i will never find one again...
im sure other new things will come about and i will look into them...but i am hoping the Darwin does what i need for a while...and i can focus more on my juices (personal favorite is Captain's Delight from Vape the Rockies...which is out of production right now as they try to recreate it...i am using Boba's bounty right now...and it seems pretty good so far)

Oh well impluse got the best of me and the blue screen was screaming "buy me". I played a little game and if there was still a Darwin in stock after 6pm today then I would place an order. Order placed!!!!! I may need to put some birth control in place for this MOD since it keeps breeding more Darwins into my collection. Happy vapes all
Hey JAG- i like you posts- i am still trying to figure what i need for my big D, i have some G-TANK-US ordered- really excited about ! Only thing i missed out on the preassembled, not to complain- i was fortunate indeed! Tried earlier for The Line & The Fog, so waiting on my hopeful if i can put it togeather. I did get a scubagen v3- think it would cause a REAL MAN to tremble, it is partly assembled, hehe!!!
