it does get tighter as you slide it in, but not so tight that you can't screw ... and use the extension as a handle to pull it back out.
You might try a tiny smear of VG on the outside ... when installing the grip-tip (that's a neat name!) .. VG is good for neoprene, keeps it pliable. I use it to lube o-rings, etc. Keeps the rubber in good shape. It's good for other things too
