I had no intention of building an actual charger just the stand.
Basically as I own an 18650 charger, I thought of using a fake battery placed
into the charger with two wires running to the stand socket.
(Quick, Simple and above all cheap).
I should as you say make the stand have a usb connection, but never thought of that.
Would have to be pointed into the right electronics thread.

Peter.

It seems like this wonderful thread is coming to a close! 8-o

Please say it ain't so! Maybe an hourly bump would spur it on? :D

AGREED. And I want a pipe now, even more so! Sirens going off as we wait for tsunami to hit the other side of the island chain, and 40 min till it hits here. Hope its manini (small).

Let's do the pipe!
aloha kakau (aloha to all)

Im about to start my own mod and seen you have resistors or caps and was wondering if I needed any of those to make mine. I wont be using a led in my mod, its my first one and just want something very basic. Also is the pipe going into the atty a must or cant I do without it?

No resistors or caps required if just using a 3.7v bat.
Adding an Led is a lot easier than you think.
If you use a High MCD LED White or Blue, the forward voltage is around 3.5v.
So I didn't use a resistor for it.
Just solder across the atty wires, Make sure the long leg on the led is +ve.
If you are pumping juice up into the atty, a brass pipe is a must.
On Highping's very basic JB thread, He didn't solder it into place, just used epoxy, And it works fine.

The Post Mortem

1. Copper tape. Works really well when space is limited, but I would advise dropping a little solder across any joints as the conductive adhesive does seem to loose its conductivity a little.

2. The Push Switch. 12v 6a, Works fine but is not really designed for constant vaping use.

3. The LED. Stopped working. (I did not use a resistor (my fault) but the other 2 mods I'm running are working OK, Maybe just a bad LED).

4. Rubber tube to brass tube connection. Again my fault. (Not enough glue).

5. Battery connections. Working fine.

6. Soldered joints. All good. (virtually no resistance).

7. The Atomizer returned with mod. Dead (no resistance).

8. All other glued and box joints are fine.

Conclusion

The MOD is virtually sound.
I changed the atty added a battery turned on main switch and hit the button.
Vaped like a dream.

If using copper tape, must solder joints.
Make LED socket for easy replacement.
And I'm already working on a mosfet touch switch, Very little room required to install it.

When clyde returned this mod to me, he also sent to dead attys 510's I think.
Atty 1. the coil had burned out.
Atty 2. the coil had fused. (NOT GOOD). put a meter on it and virtually no resistance.
This second atty could have caused major battery problems.
I'm taking the same route as Mr Puff and have ordered polyfuses.

I would like to thank Clyde for the review and his time in working with me on this project.
I know he is a very very busy man.
The moment I get my switch problem sorted and tested, I will be sending him the next attempt.

You are too kind, sir.

"I'm taking the same route as Mr Puff and have ordered polyfuses."

What? Huh? Are you going the same route with the tubing leading to the cart instead of feeding the atty through the bottom?

Yes, I did send two more dead soldiers for you to dissect. Any luck with your resurrection efforts via usb microscope?

<reads further> FRAK! FRAK! FRAK! FRAK!!!!!! :shock:You mean it still works, it's just that the led and atty were dead!?! FRAK!!! I've got spare attys I didn't think of using in it! 8-o

That means the v2 (Actually, it's 1.1, isn't it? Anyway..) is still a viable design. Couldn't you put in conventional battery connections so it will take a 2400 or 2600 mah-if not the bigger 3000 mah-18650 battery and a different push switch? Or even used the 14500 battery....carrying around a second tiny battery only through the course of a day would be no problem for most people. What caused the atty to fuse?

Because the tardis did vape exceptionally well, and the inhalation draw factor was sweet.

Frak me with a broom handle! Frak!

No Clyde a polyfuse is a resettable fuse to protect against battery shorts.
It dosn't mean I'm injecting into the cart.

Attys just die!
The size of that box means battery springs could NOT be installed, would have to increase size of box.

Just a note about switches.
Scottbee may agree or disagree !!!!!!!!!
If you look at the current ratings on small push switches, they are rated too low for the work we wish them to do.
The wonderful little tactile switches at Madvapes are rated at 50ma.
My RN4081's draw 960ma
So looking at a potential short or switch meltdown.
The switch I used in the Mk2 and Mk1 is rated 12v 6000ma. (Just happens to be a crap switch).
The switches on devices like the copper, SB, and other mods seem to always stick too far out of the mods and take up too much room inside.
If you check out the Madvapes forum (Mosfets for 3.7v) thread you will see that a very small tactile switch can be used safely via a mosfet.
If you also search for (mosfet touch switch) on youtube you notice that just touching 2 wires with a finger will activate the atty.
These electronic components take up far less room than a mechanical switch and are rated to do the job WE require.

Frak me with a broom handle! Frak!
No not a broom handle (A Gavel will do) LOL

Query...the spring on the carlos juice box seemed rather a simple, but effective affair...it appeared to be a metal contact on a spring that when pressed, would make contact with well, the other contact. Contact! (Done now.)

Is that similar to the madvapes switch? It didn't seem to take up a large amount of room.

And there is such a large variety of battery sizes (the uf 3000 mah being the largest) is there a chance a more conventional battery connection could have been used with an unprotected 2400 or 2800 mah 18650?

Quick pick of my Av getting changed.

Oh yes Clyde. Keep away from unprotected bats if you can.

Not quite effeminate enough for cpt jack (not the torchwood/dr who one, the pirate). Try some makeup.

And I would have posted a picture had i not sent my jb off for repair on monday.
