I doubt the DC Echo can be taken apart without damaging the upper coil. My cleaning methods is flushing hot water through it with a adapter connected to a syringe and letting it dry. This method has worked quite well for me. Don't Dry Burn it.

I'll hook up a stealth battery to a dual coil and fill it with my home-made fire bal.
after it starts clogging I'll try to clean the cartomizer using the good ole go-go method and i'll report back here.

I stopped cleaning cartomizers.
I figure at $2.75 each, if I get a week out of them it beats hell out of $3.50 a pack for cigarettes with my 2.5 pack aday old habit.

lets see $2.75 vs $65? naa I am not going to be doing any cleaning.

I'm going to try to find some sort of 808/901 adaptor that replaces the airflow through the threads and see if it works, mainly for curiosity. I mainly use my 901 on the 808 basic starter kit sold at madvapes. It's just a 280mah with a charger (and a nasty cartomizer that serves no purpose) for $10 but that little automatic battery HAS NO CUTOFF. I have tried to find it on my best days and just couldn't.

Still, no one has answered my question on taking apart and cleaning these dual coils. I'm at nearly a week with my first one and it finally is starting to show some wear.

I too use the flush method to clean mine. Here is a good place to get the cleaning kit. Filling / Cleaning Kits

What is the "good ole go=go method" Bill and where can you buy a pack for $3.50? Those were 90s prices where I live. :)

I have a relatively heavy investment in Echos and echomizers so my question still stands. I was using Volt cartos from Smokeless Image and they are very good cartos. Also I have no desire to carry around a plastic or wooden box with a cartomizer sticking out of it nor do I want a pv that I have to dial up a voltage number with. That being said I really appreciate your input. Thanks again. :)

I did my best to answer your question Lulu, though I admit I was guilty of information overload. :) To put it in a nutshell, some vaporizing units require more voltage than others to give comparable performance to meet individual preferences. If "Volt cartos" meet your needs then that is what you should use.

I will say that until you try a higher voltage on any Dual Coil carto you won't have any idea what their potential vapor and flavor is. When I referenced the MadVapes VV Box Mod I simply pointed to the least expensive unit available that will work as effectively as the most expensive units, better than some, though a more discriminating vapor might want to look at something more sophisticated, like the prestigious Ferrari of the vaping community, the Provari variable voltage PV pictured in this link courtesy "dogtownvapster".

Thanks for the answer..............I have since purchased the Echo 1300 and it is doing fairly well. I find that the heavier juices need a little more umph to produce taste and vapor while the 650s are fine with lighter, clearer juices. The combo of dc echomizers and 1300 batts is a good one for me. I understand that both batts are "regulated" @ 3.7 so it may just be my perception of taste and vapor but everybody is different. Thanks for noticing the avatar I like it a LOT. :)

I thought I posted this but apparently not..................question.............I am getting a lot more flavor and vapor from 808 cartos on either a 650 or 1300 Echo batt than I get with either a dual coil echomizer or a single coil echomizer. The echomizers are filled correctly and the batteries are fully charged. Why would that be happening?

They could be over-wicked. I've left mine standing vertically for a couple days and discoverd juice puddled around the battery connector. Even though it was fat side down, it didn't drip, just puddled in the little ditch around the connector. I dried it and it vaped terrible. I blew out some juice and it was OK after hitting it a few times. I did not overfill this carto. (maybe my juice was too thin.) I now store them on their side. On second thought, I guess if it leaks, it's overfilled.

I have also found 808d1 Bloogs, Halo g6 and Volt to be very satisfying on the echo battery. You just have to fill them more and can't vape them as hard without a rest. That's the main advantage of the large Cartos to me. And on a battery bigger than a 650, an 808 looks kind of silly. :)

How I clean My Echo DC's:

1-plug the center tube. I use a half tooth pick crammed inside a tube I pulled from an old 808 carto.
2-blow out the access juice. Wrap with a paper towel cause a lot of juice will come out.
3-Put a shot of vodka in your mouth and blow it through the same way.
4-Put another shot of vodka in your mouth and swallow it
5-blow some hot water through it
6-Blow out the excess water
7-air dry or put it in the toaster oven and bake at 170 for 60-90 min.

By the 5th carto, even if it doesn't work, you don't really mind.

Seriously this does work for me. Step 4 is up to you.

I'm also wondering about the Pg/Vg ratio. I'm gonna order more cartomizers next week. Right now, over a week using 80/20 has been great for the carto, not so great for me. Anyone have success with a higher vg ratio? When I get more carts I'll be able to clean and rotate more so I won't mind trial and error and a gummed cart.

I know......right? It does look silly sitting on a 1300 but that doesn't stop me. I've been using V2 808s left over from my early vaping days when I didn't know better but now I have quite a collection of Volt batts and cartos so I use the Volt cartos from Smokeless Image for weaker tasting juices. The echomizers mute the flavors somewhat. I also have pack of clearomizers meant for the Elite 808 that give good flavor and vapor too.

I received a dead echo cart with my kit but I had sent an email immediately after placing the order asking if I could swap one of the extra echo carts I ordered for an echo-e. Instead of swapping, he just added it so it all worked out in the end. And I got something to play with. After dismantling and pulling out the connector, I stuck a pair of needle nose pliers in there and after some work and twirling and prying....and twirling and prying....and cursing and prying, I managed to remove the metal insert entirely. With that part removed, it slips snuggly into the silver band of the echo. Viola! Jumbo cone for my xl clearos. Draw is slightly tighter, but if you have a dead echo and some time to kill, it really looks great!
Now If only I had a tool to poke a hole in the side so airflow could come from the sides instead of from the top opening.

I've had my Echo for a few months now, very happy with it. The only surprise I git is that I enjoy the single coil cartos over the dual coil. Single coil lasts longer, taste better and have similar throat hit and vapor. I'm sticking with single coils from now on.

I get slightly more and warmer vapor, but not tremendously more with the DCCs and flavor is less. I waffle a little. The single coils already were a great cartomizer. It's hard to build on such a great platform and you lose the ability to mess with the filler with the DCCs
