I have 2 of these. 1 black and 1 SS. Awesome tank! Loads of flavor and plenty of AFC and vapor.

Does that have a rebuildable deck? I haven't heard of that one before. Like I said before, the crown tanks really work great for me but I had been enjoying the rafale with a prebuilt rba until it started leaking. I've been trying some new tanks lately. I have a merlin and a bachelor on the way. One thing that I hate about some of the tanks like the crown and rafale are that they don't come with the rba so you have to spend another 10-15 to get the rba. I found the ones for the rafale on clearance for 6.99. Now I know why. They are a vertical coil build that you have to wrap the the cotton around and then fit it into the shell.

I started out with kfl+ rebuildables. Those are pretty easy. The crown rba's aren't bad to build. They are horizontal and you just have to make sure to get the wick right to cover the juice holes. I've had the most trouble with the vertical ones like the rafale where you have to wrap cotton around the coil and then insert it into the shell and lock it down with a set screw. The rafale has a spring clip on top too that is a bit of a pain. I'm sure with more practice I could get it but haven't had much luck building it so far.

I thought it might be a good idea to have a thread similar to other companies threads where we can comment, suggest, review flavorings from The Flavoring Apprentice. I know I use them primarily for my flavorings and would like suggestions/reviews and maybe recipes and starting points for using their products.

ANYONE STILL DISCUSSING FLAVORS HERE ANYMORE?

Just getting into DIY here. I want to keep it real simple at first so I can learn.

Wondering what flavor ADDITIVE the more experienced mixers here use to get that creamy buttery flavor? The one that makes the commercial ones taste creamy and buttery?

I know about the bad BUTTER type ones, (popcorn lung etc.). From what I've read online by some of the "expert" mixers there is no direct replacement in some recipes for those BAD ones, but they are still available. In my case I'm not too concerned to use those in small amounts if that is really true.

Sorry, I kinda got us off topic. The topic is normally about flavors 99% of the time. Believe it or not, the equipment used can have a huge affect on flavor results. I'm not sure if I know exactly what you're looking for but you might try TFA butter or maybe Cap vanilla custard. What recipe are you trying to make? That might help the folks here give you more help.

I was trying to make a Butterscotch and read (somewhere) that Butter flavor helps (in very small quantities) bring out a creamy butterscotch flavor. If you like movie popcorn butter, TFA is it. Not so good for butterscotch. o_O

    The quest continues.......

Yes we should be discussing flavors here so I will not sully the conversation by talking about an ADDITIVE. I guess it takes a person new to the thread to keep us on track.

Thanks, I'm already following a bunch of mod hardware threads, and it seemed this one was going in that direction.

For my first attempts, I'm concentrating on a banana flavor juice. I've bought many store "banana" $20 juices. Some were good, many I gave away. My tastes have changed over the years, and while at first I did not care for the "buttery" flavored juices, I started to miss them at some point. I don't know the exact flavor or flavors used in most of them, but they all seem to share something in common, smooth buttery, creamy. Here is a few examples:

"Brevity" - Five Pawns - Taken Three:
The world famous Boston cream pie infused with banana creaminess. Get a taste of dessert on the go, a mouthwatering delicious pie that packs a solid punch of flavors and great clouds.
Primary Flavors: Banana, Pie, Cream, Caramel, Chocolate

    Jimmy The Juiceman "Creme Brulee"

Mech Sauce - "Gorilla Snot" & "Big Nana Arms"

My first purchase of supplies from Nude Nicotine, I got a bottle of their "Banana Cream Pie" flavor, I have to return it, as for whatever reason it has no flavor, bad batch, I don't know. The rest of my order was fine, the other flavor I got was a NN "Strawberry/Banana", that has a powerful smell, that's when I knew something was wrong with the first one.

I do plan on getting banana flavors from the other known sources, but want to order whatever folks recommend for the buttery creamy flavors, so that hopefully as I progress I can get close to the 3, I mentioned above. As a DIY newbie, I'm trying to keep it simple at first. I've looked at a lot of recipes online, joined the ELR site, but many recipes call for 4-8 flavor ingredients, I'd like to start simple at first and work my way up.
    Thanks!

Have you tried Bavarian cream or sweet cream?

I wonder if billsmagicvapor is watching this thread still? I'll bet he could help.

I haven't tried anything yet, that's why I'm posting. I have to order flavors, and want to start a short list to begin. From NN, I got my NIC base, PG, and a bunch of different types of basic additives. Only got 3 flavors from them, one being bad as I mentioned.

That is really weird that the banana flavor had no flavor. I was thinking I had heard that from someone else before. Bavarian cream is a really good one to have on hand. I wish I could be of more help but I haven't been at this all that long either. I have accumulated about 100 flavors now. I keep seeing recipes on here that I want to try and am missing one or two flavors. Of course I can't just order one or two so I end up with several. It just adds up over time.

Thanks, it's a start. I called NN, not sure about older issues they may have had in the past regarding customer service, but since my first order, they have been GREAT! Nine out of ten times they actually answer a phone call. They are sending me a new bottle of the "Banana Cream Pie", I was willing to send mine back, but they said don't bother.

He did ask if I had left the cap off for FOUR days, to evaporate the alcohol. I said no, but that there was absolutely NO flavor of anything.

Since I'm new to DIY, I had read that with certain ALCOHOL based flavors, that AFTER mixing you may have to steep with the caps off for a day or two, but never read about doing this with new flavor bottles BEFORE using them. Is this the accepted technique for alcohol based flavors?

Sometimes I got absolutely nothing to do and start do think and create recipes. This one might have some redundant flavors, but after mix is already enjoyable! Cant wait for 20 days to try!

I called "DragNet Master", cause it's a mix of my leftovers..

    Caramel Nut 2.4ml 0gr 4%
    Sweet Cream 1.2ml 0gr 2%
    Bavarian Cream 1.2ml 0gr 2%
    M-Type 1.2ml 0gr 2%
    Acetyl Piradão 1.2ml 0gr 2%
    RY4 1.8ml 0gr 3%
    Kentucky 1.2ml 0gr 2%

Banana Foster's is a strong banana flavor and if you use a little Bavarian creme and marshmallow will make it creamier too

    @Mactavish -

Below are some of the flavorings that I've personally bought so far and used in recipes...that add a creaminess and/or a smoothness to them. I'm sure there are others I haven't bought nor used yet though.

TFA - Vanilla Custard, Bavarian Cream, Sweet Cream, Vanilla Bean Ice Cream, Vanilla Swirl, Marshmallow, Banana Cream, Whipped Cream, and Vanilla Cupcake

CAP - Sweet Cream, Vanilla Custard, Vanilla Bean Ice Cream

As far as adding a Buttery Flavor, the ones I've used are - TFA Butter (Movie Theater) Flavor and CAP Butter Cream (only a slight buttery flavor to me).

    I hope that helps.

Forgot this: If any flavoring above was available in a DX version (without diketones) I did buy that version instead of the regular one. Examples are the Banana Cream, Sweet Cream, and Bavarian Cream.

The ones I posted above are what I think of as good "blenders", to help primary flavorings (ie. the fruit flavors, the dessert/pastry related flavors, etc.) along in a recipe. If you look for recipes that sound good to you...you'll probably notice that about 90% of them have at least 1 of those "blender" types in them. Many will also have some form of sweetener (like TFA Cotton Candy, Sweetener, Brown Sugar, etc.) in them. Some will also have additives (like TFA Sweet & Tart, Smooth, Sour, etc) that may put alittle "zing" in a recipe or smooth out alittle harshness in it.

So, I would suggest that before you order more flavorings ...look around & find some recipes that sound good to you, that you'd like to make. Buy your flavorings needed to make those recipes then, instead of buying a bunch of flavorings because they just sound good, and then asking yourself when you get them..."OK, what can I make with these now?"
