Ok so I have done a lot of reading and I am wanting to start making my own juice I have spent the better part of a few hours reading this thread and I have saved and printed a lot of the info out especially bills magic vapor recipes and info from his blog about basic flavors etc.

Here's the big question I noticed that a lot of the flavors that bill and others are using from TFA have custard notes according to the TFA website and well I know that this is not good for you because of the chemicals used to make custard notes so are you guys still using the flavors with custard notes from TFA I was going to order the list of flavors bill has on his blog labeled "Basic flavors to order from TFA" and then a few others from bills recipes that I want to try out but am concerned about the custard notes (or better yet the hazards of vaping the bad chemicals) I know that TFA has done an excellent job in labeling there flavors but what is the real deal with the custard note flavors that are listed in bills "basic flavorings to order" blog post as I want to be safe as I will be sharing my flavors with others and well I quit smoking to be healthier (and I am sure even the bad chemicals are better than analogs ) but why vape them if you don't have to. (but I do want to have good flavor) I know what a apain in A#% he wants to be healthy and have flavor but really can you guys give me the scoop as I really want to get my ordr in ASAP so I can begin the learning curve of flavor making.

Thank you guys and girls so much for the info especially you bill thank you thank you so much.

TFA's Vanilla Swirl (custard flavor), French Vanilla Creme, and Bavarian Cream DX are all diketone-free; I don't know if they're as good as the originals, because I just started DIY myself and never tried the originals -- but now that I know the risk, it's probably better that I don't; all of those diketone-free ones are very good.

Some other flavors that still have some amount of diketones, you can find by other mfr's which don't; Capella's Sweet Cream is very good, and diketone-free AFAIK, and they have a "v2" line (like TFA's DX line) that are reformulated without diketones. Their Vanilla Custard V2 is horrible, but the TFA Vanilla Swirl takes its place admirably! Capella's Cinnamon Danish Swirl v2 seems ok, though the jury is still somewhat out, on that one. The Hazelnut v2 is pretty good. Also some FlavourArt flavors, such as their Apple Pie, are decent, and diketone-free.

Yah I googled till the cows came home and learned a bunch but didn't know just how bad at the small ratios we would use and I know according to TFA website that none of there flavors have diecytyl in them but they do have Acetoin and Acetyl Propionyl which is also bad for you but again at the very low levels we use just how bad is it really. I was a smoker for 25 years so lots of damage done and I accept that but if I make flavors and share or even sell them I don't want to be killing the young people if I can help it.

Acetoin can/does catalyze into trace diecytyl. We're talking a few ppm (parts per million).
Acetyl propionyl is classified as a mucosal irritant. There haven't been any real studies done on effects of low % inhilation that I am aware. I do know that diecytyl and acetoin are found in regular cig smoke as well at higher concentrations than you get from vaping.

Just made this because I went through my 4ml sizes and saw I had Peppermint. This is my first minty vape ever, and it is awesome with a great after taste. I don't know that I would do anything to it. I mixed mine at 50/50. Thanks Nic-holio!!!

Glad you like it aly77!

It matured after 1-2 days and I agree it is a really nice flavor. And very close to the Snow Day flavor as well - but even if it wasn't I do like this one a lot. I probably won't change it, having vaped it for the last few days.

Going to put my order in for flavors today.

Funny thing for the past week I have not really liked the ADV flavor I have as it is good first thing in the morning then it sucks for most of the day. I found this thread yesterday and read it from pretty much start to finish. This morning I now know why I like the juice in the morning and not so much in the day. Why well I vape it in the mornings with my coffee which I have hazelnut and french vanilla cream in it and well I now know that what Bill and the others are saying is very much true you need the vanillas and what not to bring out the flavors of the main flavors in your juice.

Ok so I went through the TFA site and through the list of Bills recipes I have and found that there are a few flavors that I cant get in a Acetoin and Acetyl Propionyl free version.
The flavors are:
sweet cream, vanilla bean ice cream, vanilla custard, graham cracker, waffle, pie crust, dulce de leche, bananas foster, cinnamon sugar cookie, peanut butter and butter.

Can anyone help me out with trying to figure out what non Acetoin and Acetyl Propionyl flavors could be used to replace some or all of these in the TFA flavors.

I only want TFA flavors the biggest ones are sweet cream, vanilla bean ice cream, vanilla custard as those are used in a lot of recipes.

Thanks for any help you can give to a noob juice maker

From all I've read, the magma is far more suited to the tight-airflow, single-coil build I prefer; also, the amgaM by Tobeco is only $18.99 (at eCiggity), which I also like a lot. :D And I'm pretty sure I can get stuff from eCiggity a LOT!!!! faster than from slowtech.

I'm really a n00b with all the rebuildable stuff - the Infinite Lava magma clone is the first RDA I've ever had - but I picked it because of all the reviews I saw of people talking about it being one to get if you are a flavor chaser. It has helped me a lot with flavor testing. With regard to airflow it is pretty versatile, with a total of 6 airflow configs - basically you can have 1 or 2 of 1mm, 2mm, or 3mm airholes opened up. It's pretty open with both 3mm holes open, how I usually vape it regardless of single or dual coil build. I think my Erlkonigin with the AFC ring out might be a little more open (or at least, a lot more noisy haha) - but the location of the air passages seems to be a big part of what has experienced RDA users up in arms about the magma design -- it brings the air intake in just below where the coil(s) will be. This seems to be a biggie for getting max flavor.

I'm sure there are other good ones out there, probably even ones that are better. But it was great for a noob like me - very accessible posts and easy to build on or rewick.

The one tip I'd offer for anyone getting a magma/clone is - be careful not to tip it at much of an angle when the juice well has much liquid in it. :) I'm playing around a little with some wicking ideas that have wick material situated around as much of the top of the juice well as possible to catch overflow in tipping situations - but it's not that bad really. After the first day or so of using one you'll know what I mean and it will become second nature. The drips/dribbles you can get sometimes are worth it to me though for onslaught of flavor the RDA produces. :)

Custard notes are at your own risk. They contain diecytyl, known to cause "popcorn lung".
The people that originally got sick from it were people that inhaled concentrated versions of it in popcorn factories for years and years. In vaping it's used it much smaller dilutions. A flavor might contain 1% diecytyl, and that flavor might be used at 10% in a mix.

All that said, I still use it.

You can google all the info and make an informed decision.
Same here, I use em. Vaped plenty of boysenberry, but never more than a 6% mix (it tastes HORRIBLE any higher) and I'm not dead. Yet.. ;) Can't be much worse than the 20 years of big tobaccos mystery crap I was inhaling before..
Almost done with 30ml of Bills grape bazooka gum which has sweet cream and still no ill effects.. The sweet creams a MUST have too..

The tip I received recently was, put the coil on the outer airhole, away from your mouth, so that when you tilt it to vape it, the airhole on your side won't be open, so it won't leak.

I'm so excited! I'm just waiting on my last credit card payment to post, so I can order that amgaM. Oh boy, vapemail soon, the good HARDWARE kind!

I do the opposite. The way mine sits when its tightened down, the airhole is on the bottom the way I hold my Vamo (buttons up). I figured this let's the wick soak up juice easier. Never had any leaking other than overfilling it. I cut my wick so its just long enough to hit the bottom of the well, kinda like my Kayfuns. My only real gripe with it is the juice that seeps out all over the AFC when you open it!

I'm going to try that tip, putting the coil away from me (I use my thumb to fire, so button/buttons are facing me), so that the open airhole will be on the "up side" when I tilt it to vape... I hate ejuicy fingers! :D

I just ordered the amgaM!!

Bill's Magic Vapor, would it be too forward if I told you I love you?

I just mixed up your basic custard with about 11% blueberry and your chocolate custard. My oh my oh my oh my!

I loaded the blueberry in my BRAND SPANKIN' NEW Subtank Nano, and it's divine! The chocolate is in my trusty PT2. I ordered more flavors last night (to complement your recommended starter list and to be able to FINALLY make Jo's Peach Cobbler.)

SO excited :D

Is Banana (Ripe) supposed to be cloudy? I have already tried heating and shaking it, and even after mixed into juice, heated and shaken again for a couple hours, it still shows cloudy in the tank and seems to be leaving small particles on the sides of the tank. Flavor of it is amazing, but it is clogging my coils.
