Oooooh - I love me the smell of cherry pipe tobacco (reminds me of my Dad :) ) I just whipped up some Honey tobacco (I think it was Trophyfish's recipe) One of the comments was to add a touch of cherry. I went for the original (I'd overdone the almond first time - backed it of substantially this time around.) If it's a winner, next batch will have the cherry addition!

I'm not too sure of these INW to be honest; the Vanilla for Pipe smells a little "play-doh-y", and the INW "Cherries" smells rather like the fog at Steam Cigs. :D But the "Cherries" flavor is described as a sweeter cherry, not tart, so I thought it was probably more my thing than tart cherries, which I hate hate hate. But I'm planning to add some Vanilla Swirl, so that might help it. I'll be using a different WTA, wholecig's "Kiss of Sweet" so I'm going to hold off until I see how sweet it turns out, before I add any further sweetener. I might add some of the Deluxe TDM, which although it's described as having tastes of chocolate and vanilla, all I really taste is the sweet-ish tobacco, and a little of the vanilla; the cocoa is a nice scent but I can't taste it. :grr:

cherry tobacco sounds good. I am trying vanilla tobacco (tfa black honey and tfa vanilla bean gelato) now im going to have to get some cherry to substitute for the vanilla.my old pipe tobacco was vanilla coconut but can't find a really good pipe tobacco flavoring.

Gonna go roll a 100DT on the above :D
Thank you, Dinger. I have both Rumchata and Horchata coming from TFA. I will let everyone know how it turns out.

O.k. Update....

Horchata - 12%
Jamaican Rum - 5%
Cinnamon (spice, not redhot, not danish) - 5% (I like the "bite" this gives)
Bavarian Cream -7-8%
Sweetener - 4%

Yes, it's >30% flavorings. I'm still looking for the "creaminess". I might like a little more rum too, but I'll try another variation tomorrow....

I'm still recovering from my nic faux pas on my Pecan Pie. I use 1mL pipettes for my flavorings and 3mL for my nic. I was mixing a 15mL batch and knew I needed 3 mL. When I finished putting in my THIRD 3mL pipette of nic, it hit me what I'd done

O.k. This means I have 27mg/mL Pecan Pie.... Whoo-boy, that's zippy!!!!!! Thank heavens it was only 15mL. (I could dump into a 30mL bottle and double the flavorings and top it off with VG - if I feel like it....)

Has anyone mixed a good RY7?
I've been using Ecblends RY7 and love it but cannot figure out what's in it.
It's more than likely a variation of RY4 but who knows.
ECBlends website says of this: "RY 7 is a different and more robust tobacco version of our popular classic RY 4 with undertones of caramel and vanilla. The tobacco flavoring is different and intensified."

I'm hoping to do the same with my RY4 Asian & RY4 Double--they need more tobacco flavor--so if anyone can recommend the right tobacco flavor for this, let me know! I've got a six tobacco flavors at hand, which I'll mention shortly in a new post.

I launched my DIY career this evening by creating eight small batches of tobacco flavors. For sanity's sake I started with a big batch of nic juice (45/55 at 20mg), enough to put 10ml in each bottle, with some leftover for later use (e.g., diluting overly flavored juice).

I'd seen recommended starting points for only half of these, so I was cautious with the flavoring. I also adjusted for the fact that the flavor was being added to the 10ml.

For 5% flavoring I added 0.6ml:
Black Honey Tobacco, Bold Tobacco (Capella), East Coast Tobacco, Mild Black Tobacco, Rum Tobacco, Vanilla Tobacco.

For 10% flavoring I added 1.2ml:
RY4 Asian, RY4 Double. (My guess is that I'll be looking to add a tobacco flavor to the RY4s somewhere down the road. Recommendations are welcome.)

Question: I intend to steep these for a month. At what point before that can I check to see if I got the flavor percentages right?

I don't know about the other tobacco flavors, but ry4 double is very good right after mixing. It does change a bit after some steep time, but not by alot,so what you taste in the beginning is very close to what it will taste like later.
Also, instead of waiting a month, you can speed steep these and get the same result alot faster.Just put the bottles of finished juice in a cup of hot water, leave until the water is room temp, then heat the water again, and let the bottle soak again, then let the bottle sit overnight. This will give the same result as waiting, but can then be vaped the next day after mixing.

Thx for that! I'm told that the cherry pipe tobacco needs steeping too, but I don't want to wait a couple of weeks for the stuff! Think I'll try this heat steeping thing and see how that works for me. Because I may need to tweak the recipe, and waiting 2 wks between tweaks is a good way for me to lose all interest in it.

When i first started diy, most of stuff i wanted to make was tobacco flavors, and then i read about those long steep times and got very discouraged very fast haha. Then the more i read,i seen several people mention the hot water bath,so i tried it,and it has worked very well for me.I've used that method on other flavors that need steep time too,and sometimes it worked ok,and others not so much, like vanilla custard based juices,i didn't like how those turned out at all with the heat, but tobacco flavors seem to work really good with it.There are several methods people use for it,one that is widely reccomended for tobacco is to use a crock pot,put the juice in a glass bottle, fill the crock pot with water, and turn on the low setting and heat for 4 hours.I didn't have a crock pot at the time,so i seen someone else mention the water in a cup.The crock pot method would probably produce more of a repeatable method,as in theory,it should heat to the same temperature every time, but when i use the cup method,i take a coffee cup filled about 2/3 with water, and i heat it in the microwave for a minute and 30 seconds, then drop the bottle in,let it get nice and warm, then pull it out and shake the crap out of it,then back into the cup to sit until cool, then repeat one more time, then shake again when it's done, and let sit overnight.

I have a crock pot, but unfortunately, since vaping has utterly taken over one of my kitchen counters, i don't have a place to set it up. However i keep hot water on the stove all the time, for all the tea making going on (hot in the morning, iced decaf all the rest of the day), so I always have ready access to nearly-boiling water. And I've got several cobalt 10ml bottles that I always use for my 5ml tests, so that would make an admirable way to just set the bottle into a mug filled with hot water.

Thx
Andria

The State of Confusion
You guys make my flavor stash look really pathetic now,and you are much more organized too....currently mixing for my mom and myself only....maybe only once a week or every other week depending on amount and if using a new or old recipe..addictive buying flavors though for sure

LOL

That's why Bill and I seldom post any pics of our labs....

You all are doing great! :thumb:

Re: heat treatment to foster blending & speed up steeping.

A video from somewhere or other suggested another, less messy, method:
  • Put a bowl of uncooked rice in a microwave and get it nice & warm.
  • Bury the bottle of juice in the warm rice and let it sit until the rice cools down.
  • Shake the juice and repeat the process a few times.
My living circumstances make this impossible for me, but that's what I'd try if I could. I've used the hot water treatment for newly purchased juice (which I had to use right away because I'd run out), and it seemed to make a difference. I'll use it for my newly DIY'd juices before I store them away.

(Note to fellow grammar freaks: I just made "DIY" a verb!)

Carolus Appellandus ItTechyco salutem!
Scripsisti: "Ex his electi ProVarianti-videbimus lumen.Provarianti eligit in vobis non eligere Provarianti."
Quibus verbis respondeo: "Huh???" Dictum enim minime grammaticum mihi videtur. Num erro?

Thanks dOOd!

So my Latin grammar sucks....I was never good at Ex Snay E Tay...anyway! LOL!

I took Latin for a year, French for 2 years , and Mexihican for 4 years

I worked in S.A. for quite a few years and learned a lot of dialects of Spanish.

What's this called, I'll add it to the DropBox.

Don't yet, please - that wasn't final, and I'm still not crazy about where I've landed. (I have a later rendition and hoping someone would chime in with any suggestions.... And I'll need help with a name, since I suck at naming things - I can barely come up with names for my pets! :D )
