O.k. Update....

Horchata - 12%
Jamaican Rum - 5%
Cinnamon (spice, not redhot, not danish) - 5% (I like the "bite" this gives)
Bavarian Cream -7-8%
Sweetener - 4%

Yes, it's >30% flavorings. I'm still looking for the "creaminess". I might like a little more rum too, but I'll try another variation tomorrow..
You peaked my interest with this one,so i made up a small batch last night.I've had the Jamaican rum for quite a while and had never used it in anything, and i tried the horchata as a standalone at one time and it was not good by itself, but i think mixed with these others,it may still have some hope haha.I haven't tried it yet,i'll give it a day or 2 before i try it,butit smells really good so far.By the way,did you use the one that just says horchata or the horchata base?

@robbieblood - thank you for your quick reply. I had read something about the Diketone issue. I was mostly wondering whether it made any difference to the taste since TFA still carries both. Looks like, despite the dangers, some people still opt for the original flavour, otherwise TFA would discontinue it. So I was just wondering what people here go for and why.
Vapers are not the only ones that use TFA flavorings. They were here before vaping.
Baking, drinks, etc

Can't remember if I've posted my latest update, but after a tweak from my original listing I'm at:
Horchata - 12%
Rum - 7%
Cinnamon - 5%
Bavarian Cream - 6%
Vanilla Swirl - 5-6%

I've been dripping a bit of it, and I really like the "bite" of the cinnamon, but it's not overwhelming. I think I may have a bit too much rum and not enough creaminess I was hoping for, but it's not a loser (like a couple others I've tried :D) Maybe to soften it a bit, I might drop 1 point on the Cinnamon....

I'm very open to suggestions. The above is very high flavoring, and I'm wondering if I could dump the Vanilla Swirl and maybe up the Bavarian Cream one or two notches. That would land it around 30% flavorings....

The Horchata is actually CAP (although I have TFA - I think it's the "plain" Horchata. Not sure if I know the difference between the two....) Yes, by itself, the Horchata doesn't do a whole lot for me.

The beauty of DIY though!

Ah,ok,well the one i made yesterday,i used the tfa horchata, but if it doesn't do it for me,i forgot i have capella's version too.I went on a horchata binge a while back trying to find one that actually tasted like the drink,i never found it haha. The one i made yesterday was the version before this one,but since i haven't tried the rum yet,it's probably better that i went with the lower version on that, although the addition of vanilla swirl sounds like it could be good too.I'll try it the way it is,and maybe add vanilla swirl to some of it to try also.

Hey guys! It's been a while, not sure if we have covered this already or not but here's a great start to an awesome root beer.

Root beer 10% (a cheat I know)
Anise 5% (FA)
Vanilla bourbon 3%
Sweet cream 1%
Vanilla swirl 1%
Sassafras .5% (LA)
Sweetener .5%

Sorry about the flavourart anise it clouds the mix up but TFA's is a tank cracker. I wanted a gourmet root beer not a A&W mass produced type. I like the spices and wanted them to come through and boy do they!! Enjoy!

@b.m. I forgot to mention about 4% sweetener....

ETA - I wanted to come up with a Horchata drink as well. But, I recently had a phenomenally yummy "Rumchata Colada" the other night at dinner.... So, I thought I'd go the Rumchata route. Next rendition might be the "RC Colada" :)

Well that works out good since the version i followed had the 4% sweetener.
That rumchata colada sounds pretty good.I've never tried the rumchata drink, but i love horchata and pina colada,so the 2 together sound really good haha.

I would think leaving out the Anise would give it a more A&W flavor, real root beery, especially with sassafras and the vanillas and cream ...if that's a way to describe it...

I personally like the A&W type, or Barq's but I know that's not what you were after...:thumb:

I've been watching this thread for some time, thanks for all the tips. I have been DIYing a few months and had some success and some not as successful. I realize everyone has different opinions on steeping and the different methods available. I adopted a method and not sure if it is a logical process. I thought it would be best to apply same process to all my mixes for consistent results. I mix usually 5-8, 30ml bottles. I then shake in USC for four 8 minute cycles with heat on (120-125 degrees). I then place them in crock pot for a 5 hour bath (125-135 degrees). I let them set overnight to cool, then I load my Lemos to test. I do desserts, fruits, tobaccos, and coffees most and use mostly TFA for flavorings and always mix 50/50 3mg. Is my process sound? Am I hurting fruits by steeping at all? I realize tobaccos and coffees require more steeping and desserts maybe not as much. Your opinions are appreciated. Sorry for the long post.

I agree. If A&W is your thing I would also think swapping plain vanilla for vanilla bourbon would be worth a shot.

Since we're talking horchata....my latest recipe was

6% tfa horchata smooth
5% cap horchata
2% cap sweet cream
1.5 % fw cinnamon

I didn't have sweetener listed in my calculator...weird because I usually use 1%, maybe I forgot to record or didn't use...????

I'd like to try with some apricot maybe, I think hurricane vapor does a apricot horchata, always wanted to try, but didn't like a juice awhile ago from them, so never ordered it. Want to attempt a lassi recipe some day since I am fond of ahlusion's, unsure if better to get fw yogurt or if should give the new tfa Greek yogurt a try...and not sure if want cardamom...I mean likely wouldn't use it much honestly except for lassi trials, might just might be able to substitute another spice...maybe? Heck, maybe horchata with fruit could possibly come close-ish to a lassi?

Was pleasantly surprised with slots' recommendation of cranberry-pineapple(used cap golden pineapple) as a combo-refreshing and unique..I need to work on a different base, I used vanilla swirl, but I want crisper/bolder, might revisit with champagne instead since I liked it with trophyfish' s recipe.(the way it accents fruits)

Mmm those sonic shakes sure do look tasty, should be fun mixing them trophyfish, lots of variety!

I still do what b.m. does, heat water in cup/mug, not too hot(!)-warm enough to thin my vg a bit only, put juice in for a little bit of time, shake well, then to the cupboard, usually 1-2 weeks before I hit it simply do to how much I have on hand already, just what works well for me....fruits and desserts both...but when I mix dry4, i let it age longer...I don't mix many tobaccos except this one, no coffees...my way might not be technically the best way, but hey, I'm still learning:)

I'm not sure if i have the horchata smooth or not,i think i ordered it a long time ago,i'll have to dig and look haha, but that sounds like another good one,i have yet to find a really good horchata.
I didn't even know tfa came out with a greek yogurt,i definitely need to get that one.The fw yogurt is pretty good, but i have been planning for a long time to try and mimic a yogurt dip we make where i work, and i have always felt it wouldn't come close with the fw,but what we make is made with greek yogurt,so that may work perfectly.
As for steeping the ry4 double, have you tried your mixes with it right after making them? That is the one tobacco flavor that i have found to be very good right after mixing,or even just 1 day later. It is one of my favorite flavors,so i make alot of juice with it,and none of them have ever needed more than 24 hours to be fantastic.

No actually I haven't tried freshly mixed dry4, will have to, I rarely vape tobaccos anymore though-usually stick with fruits and desserts, but like to branch out on occasion, I should try it sometime, thanks for recommendation...do you mix with ap, bavarian cream, anything else?

I use it with other flavors,i haven't tried it by itself.one of my favorites is from the recipes section called rwhy4,it's ry4 double, bavarian cream, and caramel candy, the same person who posted it also has another one called scutch that is very good,it's got ry4 double, butterscotch, and a few other flavors in it.He posted 2 versions of that one,one with pistachio and one with toasted almond, both very good.I think my all time favorite though, which was posted here in this thread a while back by dwcraig1,they call it peanut brittle.Very simple recipe, and the only juice i have made that i have liked enough to make 120ml at a time. It's 6% ry4 double,6% peanut butter, and 1% sweetener.Very good stuff.

Thats pretty much what I do also, except for the crock pot.Instead I let them sit overnight with caps off to let air bubbles releasse their gasses. Im not sure about tobacco blends though, Imainly do deserts and fruity.
