Right, the USB wall adapter that the ego charger plugs into should be acceptable. Check it's nameplate for it's output voltage and current. Since it's USB to "feed" the ego charger, it will be 5 VDC, and current should be at least 500 mA. Anything below that won't give satisfactory performance while charging. Higher is fine.

I use a 4 port wall adapter (wall wart) that's 2A, i.e. 2000 mA.

Attaching the VV3 to the ego charger itself? Probably destroy both. With smoke, at least, and maybe with flame. Not good!

VV3 (and MVP and a few others) have the charger built in, and the topper connection point is ONLY output, never input voltage.

What is the expected life of the itaste vv3, anyway? I have two, just 7 weeks old, and one is somehow not working. It seems to be fully charged, but it appears that some of my toppers (both the clearos it came with and Kanger Minis) aren't firing on it...and neither is my dripper. They all work fine on my other one. I'm fairly sure it should last longer than this.

Usually one of three things. Center pin on the VV connector is stuck down, Pin on topper coil is up, coil is burned out.

Gently work the pin up on the VV with a needle or small knife blade.
Pull your coil pin out a little.
Replace coil.

I try to check my coil for tightness when I refill. Unscrewing the caps can loosen the coil. Then when I wash things out, I remove the coil and pull the pin out a little.

Paul, when you say "center pin on the VV connector," are you referring to the round central part?

Well,
I'm officially done buying new stuff for the next 2+ months... I've literally used my e stuff budget for 3 months in the past 30 days.

That being said, the only thing I should need to buy anytime soon is some new e-juice.

Works out nice though -- i have a bunch of new toys coming that will be peppering me with vape mail until middle of next month.

Nemesis clone
Switch magnets for the clone
FT cheap kick until I can afford the Kick 2
Kayfun Clone
Ohm meter
2 new 18650 30A batteries
100' 30 gauge kanthal
a couple precision screwdriver sets to cover a bunch of different widths of coil
Pin vise
Fasttech EGO-C Twist (for the g/f)
Kanger PT2...

That's still what's coming in vape mail over the next month...

Yes down inside the 510 thread part. This is a problem on the MVP. Don't know if it happens on VVs but since they are made by the same company...?

Don't move it to much or too hard. Just kind of worry it around the circle. Might work, might not.

I think this is it, as the toppers all work well on my other bottom (and thank you for the coil pin tip, too). Late here, so I'll work on this tomorrow. Thanks very much! Will be my Day 50 free of the American Tobacco Company!

It does happen on the VV3 but more often it's the pin on the bottom of the coil. The collar on the VV3 is a little taller than a normal ego battery so you have to screw down your tank tighter than what feels normal &/or you have to screw your coil into the ring base tight.

Juice leakage can also break the contact with the coil causing no-fires. Thin liquids, temperature changes, coil not screwed down tightly or even manages to unscrew some how.

I have 5 EVOD tanks that look identical except for the colors. 2 of them get fussy on the VV3. They work but have to be tightened down more than the other 3 or adjusted more often as they wiggle loose. I believe they are all 5 authentic Kanger but they each have their own personality issues--LOL.

I'm sorry if this is in this post already, but I've been researching the internet for hours..and hours..and hours already trying to find an answer and I'm tired of reading through stuff only to find nothing.

What clearomizers/accessories work the best with the itaste v3? The iclear 16 it came with produced bright flavors, but eventually lost its vacuum due to a mysterious air leak in half and gurgling in the other half although I never over-filled it or spilled juice into the mouth piece. Then I got a protank mini and despite flipping the rubber gasket upside-down, it still has a muted, metallic taste to it. What should I try next?

To be honest, it's all about personal preference. There is isn't really a 'best' topper. I never really liked the iclear 16s.

The gurgling could be due to pulling too hard when you drag, or the coils may need replacement.

I'm personally a big fan of Kanger and the pt2 mini now that I've started rebuilding the coil in them. My absolute favorite is an ibtanked 19mm. You throw a carto inside the tank, prime by fiddling, and viola, you're all set and you get much better flavor than most clearos.

I'd say check out ibtanked, they're fantastic and very user friendly! A bunch of us hijacked quite a bit of this thread singing the praises of ibtanked and taking glamor shots of our ibtanked with our vv v3.

Mornin'
Well, you have a VV3 so I'm assuming you know about your options in the power settings to try and find the sweet spot for different juices and devices.
Sadly, I don't think there's a single right answer to your question. Everyone has their favourite piece of kit that someone else will say has never worked for them. But let me share this and see where it gets you…

I hated every topper I was buying after 2 days of using it. Burnt taste, too airy, too tight, juice in mouth…all of it. And then I was doing more reading (and more reading and more reading…). The first thing I learned was that that I couldn't draw on my PV like I did my cigarettes; some required a longer softer draw to pull the liquid across the coil "just so", and each type of topper seemed to be different. Bit of a PIA but I got used to it, recognizing the resistance on my drag and adjusting. Sounds weird but you will get the hang of it and it'll become natural.

Second, almost universally, my bottom coil atomizers (aspire bcd, mini pro tank 2, aerotank) tasted like crap and never seemed to last more than a couple of days. Then I read about dry burning and vodka baths for the coils. When I get fresh coils, they go into a vodka bath for a day, swirl 'em a bit, and then let them air dry (Cats like to play hockey with them, so if you have pets or kids, throw them in a container to dry). When I put in a new coil, I put it on the battery without the top and dry burn for a little bit. Don't be too aggressive as there's a rubber insulator that could melt if it gets too hot. Just a few 3-second pulses with a pause between, until you can't see or smell anything coming out of the chimney when you pulse. When i find the taste falling off or getting bitter, back in the bath they go for another cycle of clean & burn. There will come a point where all the baths in the world won't help your coils, but I've cycled mine 4 or 5 times, getting a lot longer life out of them than if I'd just .....-canned them when they seem to go south.

There will be those (and many of those in these forums) that will tell you to go straight to building and re-wicking your own coils, that anything less is a waste of time and you're all but a fool for doing otherwise. Perhaps they're right but when I'm looking for advice on a good toaster, being told I should just build my own isn't all that helpful to me. Having said all that…..

Rebuildable atomizers (RBAs) are great and can give you great taste and building/wicking your own coils gives you more control over your vaping experience than any other method. It's just more work and requires a bit of patience and learning. Tons of videos and advice on how to do this in these forums and youtube. Maybe you're keen to try this already (not sure how long you've been at this), but I'm not quite there yet. As an in-between step, i picked up a Vision Eternity RBA. It comes with some pre-built coils and wicks and it's been fantastic. When I'm ready, it's there for me to start practicing with home-made coils and wicks.
It fits nicely on vv3/twist sized devices (most RBAs will be around 20-23 mm diameter which can be a bit big on the thinner batteries), and while it doesn't hold a whack of juice, you can get quite a bit in there to enjoy before you start dripping more in. Here's a vid review: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CRAGJwLtcqo

Something I haven't tried yet but it's in the mail: Cartomizers and tank systems. Lots of folks on here with happy experience with these (and pictures!) I'll let them chime in on this (Kat?). Another expert on carts is a member called Baditude. He has a few blog entries on carts and what it's all about, so I'll suggest you start here, http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/blogs/baditude/4830-8-cartotank-help-noob.html , and read through the links at the bottom of his post.

So at the end of all this, I'd say give your mini protank another chance. Clean and dry burn your coils (but not too much!), put the grommet back the way it was, put a piece of tape over one of the air holes in the bottom ring, set your watts to 7.5 to start, and have at 'er.

And happy experimenting with your next piece of kit!

cheers,
Chris

Thanks very much; poking that center thingy on the vv's connector seems to have done the trick!
Thanks, also, to both you and Paul for not sighing and saying that this topic had been covered previously.

So...I'd hate to tell you all the thought processes that went thru my mind when I started to think the thing was broken. First, I knew I had another (plus a spare I have sitting in its unopened box). I started to calculate what the cost would be if I had to buy a new vv once a month. Well, that would actually cost me less than the amount I spent on analogs in a WEEK.
Then I started to think about whether I should look into getting a whole different magic wand system...ugh, that would require knowledge.
And then, I realized that I was experiencing the feeling I used to have when I knew I was going to run out of analogs soon and had to hustle to the store.
What a relief to know I went through all of that mood swing for nothing!

Well said. I would definitely suggest carto tank from Ibtanked. They walk you thru it and it is a great beginner setup. When I first started vaping, I thought it was too complex and stuck with clearos.

I also, until just over a week or two ago, thought rebuilding is too complex. It turns out that it is very easy once you've established your tastes and understandings in vaping. I definitely would recommend against going directly into rebuilding... And if you do want to, stay with an RDA (rebuildable dripping atomizer). Genesis style RBAs are still perplexing to me.

It's all about what you feel comfortable with. And +1 for the putting tape over 1 of the holes in the pt2.

That was me :)

I'd tried a couple regular and fast-setting epoxies on mine, at the top. No luck. Picked up a package of epoxy putty, mixed it and rolled it out into a strand or "rope" and worked it in between the top cap and base. Squeezed it together and clamped it. I happened to have some suitable size bar clamps, but rubber bands would probably work, as it doesn't take a lot of pressure, just need some. Scraped / wiped off the excess before it set, left it overnight.

You want to be very sparing with the putty, especially down at the bottom. Don't want to get any in the connections, buttons, or on the interior circuit boards.

I used J-B Weld "Steel Stick" (TM), with a set time of 5 minutes (from mixing).

This just happened to me. I think using a heavy topper like the aerotank on a vv3 without the extra rivets is the culprit. :( mea culpa.

David, did you pop the lid right off before bonding or did you just run a bead in the gap that was appearing between the top edge of the case and the bottom edge of the chrome "lid"? The single rivet seems to still be doing its thing, it's just the other 3 edges that won't stay put.

Thanks!
c.

Post of the day, Chris! :D

cityofthecondemned, as brook said, it's all about what you like, your preferences, and your vape style. There are no right or wrong answers, and the truth about vaping lies in the fact that we have to try almost everything out there. Whatever you choose next almost doesn't matter, as you may or may not like it.

I do enjoy the experience of karto tanks. They are easy, and consistent. I discovered them after one full year of direct dripping (which .... talk about a PITA!). When I did, I retired my attIEs to the back of the drawer. Will I give them up? Noooooo. There are times that an atty and an atty alone is what is satisfying. I like having a LOT of gear, and a lot of options.

There are many wonderful tanks available these days, in addition to IBTanked. I love the EASE of the Bellas and Uniques which require so little effort to refill. (There are also tanks with ports on them to make filling easy as well.)

If you do decide to try a karto tank set up, my only advice would be to soak that karto, for as long as you can (a day to a week!). A properly primed and saturated karto will give you the most longevity and satisfying vape. Be nice to her from the very start and she will always be kind to you. :) (Life lessons we learn thru vaping.) ;)

Also, I must give a shout out to the Aspire coils. After trying several clearos, and disliking each and every one, I must say that the Aspire line does indeed produce some good ol' vapes. I'm using one in my B Box (with a Bridge by Atmistique), and it is RIVALING the karto experience, BIG time.

As was stated, everyone has their own opinions and finds what they like. I personally have had mixed results with my Aspires. Some have given me a very rubbery/metallic taste that it takes quite some time to get rid of. I also found that it didn't produce to my level of expectation.

Now that I've gotten comfortable rebuilding Kanger style coils, I'm truly loving those for the first time.

If I had to put in order my favorite devices (not including drippers, those are simply fantastic for at home use) it would be as follows:

1a) ibtanked Carto tank with Boge Pre punched cartos
1b) Rebuilt Kanger w cotton wick
2) Aspire BDC CE-5
3) Aspire BDC ET-S (despite that weird taste, I'd put it above Kanger standard coils because I'd get that burnt taste too often with Kangers at low wattages)
4) Kanger stock coil devices

Just my opinion... Once I learned and got comfy rebuilding, the Kanger jumped quite a bit.

Aspire is definitely worth checking out -- my girlfriend loves hers, I just may be sensitive to those tastes more than others.

Wandering around in other threads, you don't hear much about cartos being favored. I have 2 small cartos and find the flavors outstanding. I also use pt2s a great deal and learned to rebuild. I think the variety of tanks, options and nuances of each is party of the fun experience. For me, it keeps my head into vaping and away from a cig.

No, in other threads it's "rebuild, rebuild, rebuild".

I've had fantastic results from Ibtanked carto tanks. Tried one other cheap carto tank and wasn't a fan. But They're truly wonderful imo.
