I have found that in most flavoring(s) I use less than the norm. :D Sometimes wayyyyyyyyyyy less.
I also know I can not possibly be the only 1 in this huge forum that does this. ;) So I wanted to start a thread to discuss percentages used and maybe even to share some recipes/ideas for people like me and maybe you, that may help others with their DIY journey. :thumb:

Well it depends on the flavor. I can use TFA Caramel Capp at 1 drop for 4ml of base, but I don't think that counts. It's just that the flavor is that strong for me lol.

Actually I think you might be the light flavor champion here. The easiest way I know for you to mix is to take a quart of base, dip a tooth pick in the flavor then swizzle it around in the base. You can always cut it some more if that's too strong for you lol.

Just teasin' you, Dixie. :vapor:

discuss percentages

Most tobaccos (TA) usually under 5% and some secondaries like AP, ME, Smooth, Magic Mask, MTS vape Wizard, ACV, to name a few.
Fruits as a general rule are ones that more is not necessarily better.
I image most reported bad flavors would just get worst if percentage was increased.

deas for people like me and maybe you,

I suspect how well you perceive taste with regards to genetics and age coupled with how many years you smoked would make a difference.
Using Bill's 100DT Taste Test Method is a good way to creep up to your happy percentage spot.

Ok I need to explain myself a bit I see and JD1 no worries hahahaha. There are a few flavorings I can use at maybe 3%, and I am talking the higher used ones like Capella,The Flavor Apprentice and Flavor West. I use as an ADV a Nude Nicotine flavoring at .5% and could probably go down to .25% :p The FlavourArt tobaccos I am using at .1% also a Hangsen tobacco at .1%. I am finally getting it that I need to go lower to get some flavorings where I can actually enjoy them. :pop: (by the way I smoked for 42+years)

LOL....I smoked for longer than that, so.....age and length of time don't necessarily mean your taste buds won't recover...;)
I'm not a super taster, but....working with FA in a recipe at 4%.....too strong....I need to tweak.
Had someone send me some juice mixed with vz gourmet sc at 2.5%......still diluting it to try and get to a vapable taste/strength.

Well darn it all I was so hoping to get more interest in this thread - oh well I must be the only 1 who uses tiny amounts of flavorings.:(

Sometimes I'll wave an open bottle of TPA dk tobacco flavoring over my unflavored -- and when I want that extra kick, I'll briefly show it a bottle of menthol while whispering "koolada" (but not directly at the bottle).
:D

Lol. Yeal I forgot about Dk Tobacco. That's another stout one alright. It's one of the few flavors I have that I don't care much for stand a lone at any strength but still love a few drops in my baccy mixes every once in a while.

As I already said before, I usually use flavorings in concentrations of one fifth or one tenth of recommended. Juices of full strength are too harsh and too chemical for me and have nothing to do with real things. For example, to enjoy custard I need to feel its complexity and its texture. Vaping "custard" I feel just a few notes (the most loud ones) of its taste. It is like listen somebody enthusiastically playing piano with two fingers - too simplistic to enjoy but loud enough to irritate. So, I prefer to use flavors as a quiet background of vaping.

For me, really depends a lot as to what the flavor is. I'm getting to know my tastebuds lol. Certain flavors are way too strong for me at anywhere near the recommended percentages but can be really good when toned way down. Often, not liking a flavor really turns out to be that the flavor was just too strong. Makes me wonder if different people have different sensitivities to various flavors.

I would definitely agree with that! I see recipes with 2-3% AP that people really enjoy, but even if I make a 10% solution and use a dipped toothpick, so less than one drop diluted, it tastes so very strong to me. Basically I can't use it.

Many of my recipes are around 5% flavoring now, or less. Different flavorings and more concentrated than what I started this DIY thing with. It blows my mind when I look back at some of them, and how much I liked them. Now they taste chemical-y. I'm sure some people would think that some of them are slightly flavored unflavored. lol

My tastebuds must be recovering after 40+ years of smoking as I'm using less flavouring than I used to. My all day vape is 1% Tobacco Absolute Virginia + 1% DNB +0.5% EM and I might add 1% coffee or chocolate or other tobacco to vary things out a bit. Subtler seems to be better these days.

I think each vapers journey is unique. I'm coming up on 5 years after smoking 38. About a year ago my senses of smell and taste just magically reawakened and seem magnified to my recollections. I was never heavy handed in DIY starting that less than 4 months in, however my percentages have crept steadily down. I mix in the 1-3% range for most, but I would like to see how low I can go. As an example I have a bottle of premix I adore but must dilute to 1 drop/10ml and find it is plenty flavorful. Could probably cut that in half.

I'm another that thinks that's probably true. Plus I'm unlucky enough to have problems with two of my favorite additives, vanilla and caramel, especially vanilla. The ones I find that I like the most are usually coil gunkers when used at higher percents but if I try and cut back I can't taste them like I want to.

I've been slowly dropping the amount of flavoring I mix with. My last batch was at 3%, I will try even lower next time. And this is the same flavor I used at 10% last year.

That is how I have been. I used to need a ton of flavoring but have started dropping significantly. I usually make the first batch of something pretty strong then the next batch at 3-5%, it seems like once by taste buds know the flavor it can find the notes I'm looking for.
