I've had five Kicks pass through my hands and they all looked kind of gnarly.
I just got my kick in the mail on friday.
I gave it a good look over before i installed it and it honestly looks used?????? Works perfectly fine but the bottom heat sink is all tarneshed and odd looking...like it was overheated or something...also the guts are slanted in the shrink wrap material so it doesnt sit flush...very odd to me.....not sure how everyone else's looked out of the box.
I just found this extremely strange.
I will compare it to the next one i have ordered and see if its the same.
I doubt dave sent me a used one lol...probably poor quailty control on evolvs end.
I got a kick in my SS GGTS, running at approx. 7.75 watts with a AW IMR 18650. For a while I thought I had a bad connection somewhere but after cleaning everything twice it turns out the kick is just shutting down when the batts get down to 3.85 to 4v. Works great with a fresh charged batt at 4.2v, for a little while. Anyone got any suggestions, it's hardly worth using changing out batts at 4v.
2012 should be brass or the new spring either is good however if you havn't cleaned in there I would check it out. As for vasoline since using my kick I removed it from the telescope.
Also I hoticed the fuse kit is terrible with the kick. I would recommend either removing the fuses completely and running with no spring which is what I do or use a battery spring. When I was using my fuse kit 3.8 was basically dead on my ggts.
Occasionally I too had fits using the Kick in my PrecisePluses but things have settled down.
I don't know exactly how you have your 18500 set up, so if you haven't already watch The Kick by Evolv: Kicking the PrecisePlus from Super-T Manufacturing - YouTube . The exact setup that David demonstrates works the best for me - one thin o-ring under the battery, one #12 o-ring around the top cap, and I use one switch washer. Make sure the switch post & washer is good and tight, and make sure the spring is clean and seated well on the switch assembly.
The Kick seems to like things very clean. See that the Kick's top and bottom contacts are free from dirt/corrosion, wipe off your P+'s contacts with a soft clean cloth, and also check that both the positive and negative terminals of your batteries are clean.
Once I got things sorted out my 18500 has been performing great with the Kick, but I was sure irritated at first.
Good luck.
Sounds like you may have a faulty one. If everything is clean and noalox on the threads it should fire every time. Also my kick makes no noticeable noises.

I replaced the fuse kit with the spring, wthout any further cleaning of anything else. Now she's hittin like a champ. I'll leave it so for a while and see what kind of battery life improvement I get. I suspect it will be significant.
Follow up: After a while I removed the spring, not for performance reasons, I just tend to keep turning the tube when the pv is in my hands for some reason, then the spring starts bending over. Anyway, I got great consistent hits one after the other and it seemed as if the batt was never gonna die. When it finally died it measured at 3.28v. Yeah baby, that's the performance I was hoping for, much better performance and I'd have to start thinking about dirtying up the contacts a bit.Three cheers for The Kick!
I started getting misfires...replace with fresh battery. No misfires, works perfectly. I check the battery with a meter and it reads 3.8v...idk whats going on here...I doubt its my meter I have a decent one.
