I broke my LavaTube top cap.
Broke it in two...
Oh so sad,
What shall I ever do?

Do not fret,
Do not fear!
I can fix this thing,
Even though I ain't no engineer!

Just scrounge up some parts,
Lots of cussing and re-do's.
Add some ingenuity!
And we have "The Lava-Buzz!"

What am I talking about??? Check it here! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tf1HNjohsdA

Purely beng a smart *ss here... If I didn't know better based on some of your comments on the quality of the LT... I would guess you set out to break it and once you did you found it to not be warrantied after contacting Volcano... Then you thought "oh crap, what do I do know"... Then you decided to try and fix it...:D

Just kidding at the above comment... Nice job on the fix... And how did you manage to break the top cap? I have in advertly tossed mine 6' in the air and 8' feet or so from me on a hard floor and only damage was a carto snapping at its own threads...

Sure, I could have just bought a new one. But this was a fun little project, and sometimes the journey is worth taking.

As far as how it broke and what happened after. I did not contact volcano for service. I straight up broke it. I would not presume to even file a claim with them, as it was not a quality control issue, but rather one of my own stupidity. Not their fault that sometimes I can be an idiot!

Sorry let me start by saying that I am totally impressed. It looks like the caps are the weak points in these units. Versus waiting on the bottom cap to break I was considering just getting one of the chrome BP caps to replace it. What are you doing for venting now that your bottom cap is sealed?

I've hemmed and hawed on the venting issue. After having it torn apart, I realized that the Lavatube is not a sealed unit. There is an airspace gap around the buttons, and around the screen (the glass is flat, the tube is not). Personally, I think this is enough, but I may still drill a small hole in the buzz cap.

Also, if you want to get a buzz end cap for yours, make sure you order the old style as its all brass or chrome. The new style caps have delrin threads and don't work as well.
