Coolness factor of the LED's aside, they are useful for feedback...

* when the drag cutoff has been reached.
* when the battery is dead.
* when it is securely connected to the charger

I think for these reasons, I'm happy to have them present on my batteries. Maybe to save battery life, they could only light up (ie flash) when the cutoff has been reached.

The LED is a surface mount device and is very efficient. It only draws about 2 milliamps of current so the battery life would not be extended by removing it.

I will not buy a battery unless it has an LED for the reasons you posted resonator. And when the battery switch sticks on, a carto can burn quickly because there is no air flow from drawing on it to help keep the heating coil cool. I have had this happen a couple of times.

There are, however, other dramatic improvements that could be made such as using lifepo4 batteries and regulating the current to the carto. LifePo4 batteries are much safer than li-ion, and can be recharged many more times before the battery needs to be replaced. I am regulating current to my cartos using a box mod I made and I know my cartos are lasting longer.

The voltage of LifePo4 batteries is lower so they would not work with the carto unless two were used. The solution to using one battery would be to simply lower the resistance of the coil in the carto. And they also require a different charger, but I have found new charging chips out that are so small they can be built right into the battery..lol.

I'd like something that I can actually see while you're vaping. It's hard to tell if the battery is on unless you're looking in a mirror.

I agree and the LED is very bright when the end cap is removed from the battery housing. I really like the idea of having it light up the V4L logo..that would be cool.

I'm not a huge fan of the no LED battery idea. Love the LED, and it draws on lookers in like moths to a streetlight!! I AM, however, intrestred in the idea of redesigning the lighting on the batteries. A light up V4L logo on the tip or a glowing ring would set V4L apart from the competition even further than it is already!!! Love the idea of glowing smoke/vapor-like wisps goin down the side of my battery!!!! Leaford, might want to look into this buddy!!!!!

Great suggestions, Thank you. Will talk to Factory, and see what this would take, I am sure it is a new mold, but, need to cost it out. If it does happen, Leaford will get it done right way:p

Enjoy

Getting a ring at the end should be pretty easy, would just be a different 'fake ash' cap that would be clear, with black paint over the end and a slightly different shape.
You should be able to get them shipped without the end caps in, also (assuming they come inserted currently) so you could sell the batteries with the option of which end cap type to get (or assuming end caps only cost a couple of cents each, just have the option of purchasing your bat with the end cap choices included, plug in your choice, for a few cents more for the order)
The real 'cool factor' will be when the actual tube casing is customized to have a backlit V4L logo, or racing stripes or vapour trails or whatever, but that's going to be a significant cost premium I suspect - metal tubing is cheap and easy, just chop it into lengths, once you go beyond that, to adding cutouts, or tapering or other shapes, I'm pretty sure there's a price hit.

On the other hand, I'm also pretty sure if you can get a good design (Which, I know, is the tough part) then there are a lot of people here who would be happy to pay more (how much would be hard to say) for 'cooler' or 'prettier' batteries.

Yeah, I would think a ring end - possibly with a V4L logo on the tip - would be fairly easy and cheap to produce, once the initial mold is designed and completed.
I would love to see some brushed aluminum or stainless tubing for the batts, with a V4L laser cut and illuminated into the side. This could very well be cost-prohibitive, however, depending on the capabilities of the Chinese production company...
Still, it would be a cool idea - something to keep in mind for the future of V4L. ;)

I definitely like the ring end idea, and changeable end caps. I'll look into that! :thumb:

To kinda simulate it you can cut off the end of the plastic carto protective cap, and slide it over the tip of the battery. You can easily see when the led is lit. I can imagine what a nice ring would look like...maybe a mood ring..lol

I am thinking about NO LED which would improve battery life, as well as strength.

Whatcha think bout that:thumb:

Steve:cool:
What about a series of three small fiber-optic/ led lights to serve as a battery meter on the side of the battery? As battery life goes down, a light goes out?

I tried that, and I like it, it looks cool. But it restricts the airflow, even with a hole in the tip of the cap. Otherwise, I think I'd leave the cap on all the time. ;) But it does show what a ring LED would look like, and I like it. :thumb:

I like that idea, and also the other ideas about LED stripes, and so on. I am 100% in favor of unnecessary LEDs. Especially unnecessary blinking or moving lights! It's a sci-fi thing! :thumb:

But those are pretty big design changes. Pretty soon, the way we're growing, we'll be big enough to start creating and comissioning our own designs and models, but right now, I think the ring LED is the most practical idea to pursue.

Oh, and just brighter LEDs in general, too. ! :D

HEY! Speaking of unnecessary power draining LEDs, what do you guys think about the VP1's LED flashlight attachment? Useful addition, or overkill?
