26 gauge always tastes better to me and its a lot easier to work with. The build rods are not very tight, but if you connect you negative wire first, then the coil rod and coil will sit still. Make sure you pull the negative connection tight around the screw before you tighten it down. Once this is done, slide the coil up or down to center it over the air hole. then wrap the positive lead around the positive post 1 full turn. Again, make sure you pull the slack out of the top lead before you tighten the connection. All you need to do is maintain a little pressure on the coil rod to keep it from sliding out of the slot. Once everything is tight then back the coil rod out of the slot and use it to center the coils. The 26 gauge kanthal wire will also make it a lot easier to slide your cotton thru the coils.
I have built a lot of coils in different devices, this is one of the easiest and cleanest builds I have done to date.
