I vote for the term "vaporette"

That sounds like just a wee, tiny wisp of vapor. Like something you'd use when describing an issue with a battery...

"My battery is almost burned out. I tried to take a puff yesterday and all I got was a vaporette."

I vote for the term "vaporette"

I LOVE this term but then again, I'm a girl. And "vaporette" sounds girly (or else like a dance troupe..."And now, ladies and gentlemen, let's give a warm welcome for...The Vaporettes!"). So I'm not 100% sure it would universally fly?

But again, I personally like it.

In conclusion none of them are called 'cigs' or 'cigarettes' because they aren't

A cigarette is a small paper tube with tobacco leaves rolled up in them: what does a none cig a like PV have in common with that? nothing what so ever.

I think we should call them Personal Vaporizers or PVs for short

I don't advocate using the term 'electronic cigarette' (in the beginning of a conversation with an interested person) because of what stricly it is or is not (I've never even use a cigalike), but only because that's how most uninformed/misinformed people already know our vaporizers. Like or not (I don't, actually...), that's how it is. The term is already widespread (originally, by people who actually sell the device), and there's no going back now.

I had someone (a bar owner, in his late 20's) recently asking me if I was using a vaporizer, or an electronic cigarette.
Confused, I used the more common term: electronic cigarette.
He then proceeded to warn me about the dangers of the e-cig, and that I should use a vaporizer instead...

Now, some of you may be thinking "Well, see? That's why you should always use the word 'vaporizer'... cigarette puts things in a negative light, etc..."

But look at it this way: if the previous vaper that guy talked to had already cleared that 'electronic cigarettes' and 'vaporizers' are actually the same thing (and not a dangerous one), instead of just skipping the 'electronic cigarette' part for fear of the 'negative light', that very same 'negative light' would not exist anymore! That guy would already be properly informed! (Remember, this guy is a bar owner, and talks to a LOT of people). Later, if he heard someone talking nonsense about the 'electronic cigarette' (and with all probability, that's the word he will hear), he could himself have educated the other person, and so on...

Instead of avoiding the 'negative light', I believe (my opinion, only... :) we should be educating people about it...!

This is not inevitable, however. I do the opposite. I don't introduce the term "electronic cigarette" unless contextually pressured, and I only do it with qualification: "You may have heard the term 'electronic cigarette' used to describe it, but that's a misnomer because...." :)
