I was thinking of a similar technique, using a pair of small, but fairly heavy, vice grips.I've also ordered one, Plan to do tensioned coils with it. How you ask, well maybe not. but I'll tell you anyway
Lock the wire in place be tying a piece to something or in my case by mounting the spool in the coil gizmo with the wire going through a hole in the side of the spool so it does not unwind.
then just spin the side with the mandrel pin while applying tension instead of the small side.
Great Idea, letting the vice grips hang would apply very consistent tension.I was thinking of a similar technique, using a pair of small, but fairly heavy, vice grips.
I ordered me one of them coilers that you linked. Hopefully will get it by Monday. Looking forward to comparing the coils it makes to my own tensioned contact coils.
No doubt would be able to be done with next to zero effort (not that a pin vise / drill blanks are all that difficult.)

This is to olefolk or (olfolk, can't remember his name) and Filthy-Beast who told me that a 2mm readyxwick would indeed fit into a 1/16 coil from the coiling gizmo:

Keep it up girl and pretty soon, you'll be coaching me!![]()
Good job! Patience and perseverance always pays off....![]()
Congrats, way to go! After I trim the wick I run the smallest Gizmo through the center of the wick
My favorite way to wick RxW (not that I use it very much.) Wrap tip with a bit of saran wrap and twist to a point. Pull the point thru. Voila!
Easiest and best method I've found.
Dani, congrats on your success!!! Listen to ole Beast. He knows of what he speaks, LOL!!
Thanks, distorto!!! If you knew half of the coaching these two men put into me you'd have a migrane, lol. It took me a whole month to get this down.
I'll do that now. Thanks for the tip.
Great! Another trick of the trade. I appreciate it!
I was disappointed you wouldn't mail me a coat hanger, LOL!!! Now I know why.Thank you for the encouragement you gave to this noobie.
