Not too common down her in south Texas-last time was Christmas 2004. I never understood how you guys up north could handle it every year. It's pretty but it was a pain! Jim you're in New York and Col. you're in Chicago, how do you put up with the traffic? It's fifteen minutes to my job here and I gripe, I've heard of hours commutes up there in the same city!

I really do not have to put up with traffic because I take public transportation to work, which can suck on a good day LOL. I cannot give you any exact commute times because they vary, but I walk about 3 blocks to the bus, take the bus to the train station and then the train to work. I would say the whole process can last about an hour more or less. I work in downtown Chicago and have been doing so for over 25 years, before that I did drive to work.
Heh, my comute is 50 miles each way. Takes about an hour. No traffic. I live in BFE and work in BFE.
With snow and ice on the road, it may go to 1.5 hours, but that's because traffic in the form of folks who cannot drive in the stuff magically appear in my path.
I love snow. Love to drive in it. Hate being on the road with the clueless.

I am not thrilled about driving in snow but I am used to it. I really only drive on the weekends to do my errands and such. Driving with the clueless in the wintertime is a bit scary. These idiots who think that ABS and new tires will allow them to speed on ice are insane!. Everytime it rains or when the roads are slick you can always count on getting sidelined by someone who has slammed into someone or some thing driving like a fool. The last slick weather we had I was on the expressway driving to my girlfriends house and saw at least 6 multi car accidents.

Snow or traffic?
I'm used to driving in the snow- spent years driving 250 miles each way 3 out of every 4 weeks during ski season to get to VT. Out of the city it's just a matter of being careful, take your time, giving the guy in front of you plenty of room, and letting the guy behind you get by if he wants to - once you get north of NYC most people know how to drive in the snow.... I've driven through white out and on black ice- and had a few close calls - never banged up a car- always run winter tires.... That said, I work from home now so I just don't go to clients, or take public transportation when the roads are bad. Manhattan is a 35 minute train ride for me so no reason to drive there in bad weather.... I generally avoid driving around the city during snow because all these clowns with big 4x4's think all wheel drive with all season tires makes them safer- they should rename those tires no-season tires so people understand they're a compromise all around....
Traffic is a different story. I've been to lots of cities in the US where there isn't much snow, with traffic as bad if not worse than NY and Chicago - Atlanta, Miami, San Francisco, LA, Phoenix, heck even Dallas and Houston (and others) all have bad traffic during rush hour- If you have to deal with it, you deal with it....
As far as I'm concerned, its not worth risking my life driving around here in bad weather for a meeting. If weather makes driving dangerous and I can't get there by public transportation, it's an acceptable reason to reschedule....
maybe they have lots of snow in Romania so that they keep rescheduling and delaying its release. since August...
