I'm a new member here at ECF, but I've been lurking for a couple months before registering. I am 60 yrs old, smoked since I was a teenager, and although I tried everything imaginable to quit, nothing could get me off the cigs. I had my first heart attack in 1988, resulting in triple bypass surgery, another since, stents to restore circulation to my legs, and am now in heart failure, but still never quit for any length of time. I've been lectured by doctors, relatives and friends, to no avail. Back in Dec. I was shown an ecig by my hubby's cousin, and decided to try one more scheme to quit smoking. But this time, I just had a feeling it might work. I always enjoyed smoking, and although I wanted to quit, I wanted it to be painless, which to my knowlege wasn't possible. I always said "I want my cake and eat it too". Well, that is exactly what I have now.
After reading here on ECF, I decided on the Joye EGO, ordered the Starter Kit plus an extra battery and liquids from CigNot. As I waited for delivery, I kept telling myself that once it got here, if I wanted a cigarette, I would just have to vape instead. OMG! It arrived Dec. 23rd, and I have not had an analog since! Miracles do happen! It has been effortless for me! I love vaping all the flavors, and don't miss smoking at all.
Then came the proudest day of my life...my Cardiology appointment in late Jan. They had asked me to participate in a study group, and had a bunch of forms I had to fill out. When I came to the question "Do you smoke?" I could, for the first time in my adult life, answer honestly "NO". Unless you've been there, you can't imagine how good that feels, to actually put it in writing. My DR. was thrilled, and after my exam, told me my lungs sound SO much better already. He is also going to begin recommending the ecig to his other patients. I gave him a little demo, and he was so impressed!
I want to thank all the members on ECF who, unknowingly guided me through the process. And I also want to encourage those who are just beginning this journey...it can happen for you too.

One more thing - I am so glad you told your DR and that the DR had a good impression - and it is because of you! I think we all should do the same with our doctors before or if, they are affected by the propoganda. If we have them on our side we will win! I am going to post this thought because we can do something truely useful to our cause. Thank you again - horsehelper.

That is soooo wonderful! Imwas looking at a death sentence for myself too, although I'm only 38 smoking has already taken a large toll on my life. I was in the hospital sometime around 2006 for 1 month. I had pneumonia, it really looked like this time it was getting the better of me. Mo antibiotics were working. I just barely made it, and I had to quit smoking. I couldn't smoke when I was in the hospital, and I knew I would die if I continued. Yet one month later there I was smoking again. I got the pneumonia shot that year, and have been VERY sick every fall since, but it had not gone to pneumonia again. But this year I started getting respiratory failure again in august, and wasn't myself till January. I haven't worked since November. These PV'S have saved my life. I want to stand on the highest mountain and shout to the world how wonderful they are. I can breathe. I find myself only using my albutarol inhaler only once a day, instead of every three hours. I am smoke free for two weeks, and see myself having to never smoke again.
It truly is a miracle. Good luck, and keep on sharing your story with others.

You should be VERY proud of yourself!! My mom is 76 and has been smoking forever and has emphysema ... not on oxygen YET but it was imminent. I got her the world's easiest -- a 510 with prefilled 510 cartomizers (if it gets more complicated she'll abandon it, I know!) ... she's been smoke free for a couple months now.

It is NEVER too late to make a big change for the better. Pat yourself on the back right now!

Way to go horsehelper. I, too, smoked for 40 years, and one day a pop up on my Yahoo home page showed e cigs. I started doing research, found this forum, ordered, and quit the first week of receiving my new toy. But now I am addicted to ordering e cig stuff. I am an internetaholic with the vaping supplies, and can't quit ordering juice. SOMEBODY HELP ME.

Anyway, congrats and stick with it--it is so worth it.

Oh, Thank you everyone for the well wishes. I have already converted our daughter, and 3 friends who are all doing great with their eCigs. The only holdout is my hubby. He just can't seem to get comfortable with it. But, on the positive side, he has cut down from 2 PAD to about 5-6 cigs per day, so I won't complain. I just ordered some higher nic liquid to see if that will help him. I won't give up on him!

Horsehelper:

Your story brought tears to my eyes! I am proud of you and I'm proud of myself. I smoked for 35 years and despaired that I could ever quit and new I had to. I'd developed COPD and felt so lousy all of the time. Found e-cigs and had my last analog Dec 18, 2010. Hope was finally back and I'm looking ahead with much more energy and hope to have many, many more years of enjoying my sons and grandson! I thank God everyday that I have found these! My husband has quit as well and my 2nd son having a lot of success with it as well. We are truly blessed to have found such an amazing product that has given us our lives back!
I do not believe we'll save any $ directly - who cares!! - the savings in health care will be tremendous! And the luscious flavors......!
I'm getting active with my representatives to let them know how I feel about the FDA's actions as well!

Hey Rosa: Just today, I have ordered 15 samples from Freedom Smokes USA, 5 samples from Vaperite, and carts and battery from V4L. I slobber over the e juice pictures and descriptions. This new addiction is more expensive than tobacco.

Uh, Viking Vapor....Weekly order of Caramel Popcorn +++ This ain't gonna save any money - who cares! Caramel Popcorn is to die (vaping) for!

Horsehelper: Just keep trying different juices/strengths and poking them at him to try. He should come around eventually. No, don't give up on him. He just needs one inhale of a juice that he wants more of. Some of the coffee juices (if he drinks it) are really good. And can always try using feminine wiles on him.

This is good news. I wish you a miracle recovery. I've been on the analogs for about 10 years. Stupid habit I picked up as a knowitall teen. I just quit yesterday when my kit arrived in the mail. I never thought it would be this easy. My mom is 62 and has been smoking since she was 15. I want her to quit and try ecigs too. I will show her your thread and hopefully she will be motivated.
